- A staff member of Germany's far right Alternative for Germany party has been arrested on suspicion of espionage. Prosecutors say he was spying on behalf of China.
The worker is an assistant to Maximilian Krah - the AfD's top candidate for the European Parliament elections. The arrest came just hours after three German nationals were detained on similar charges. Federal prosecutors said that two men and one woman had set up front companies to obtain research and technology that could be used to develop China's navy. Information about their activities was collected by the German domestic intelligence service.

The fact the AFD even holds as much power as it does is disturbing. Have Germans really not learnt the lessons the far right taught them in WW2?
As I see it, right wing views (anti green, immigrant and LGBT for example) have not been properly represented/ been a taboo in germanys (or the west in general for that matter) political/media scene for a while now.
At the same time, the leftists keep implementing their policies (shutting off nuclear, flooding the cities with immigrants forcing language changes), but without a right wing counter to properly regulate it to fit the will of the people.
The afd IS that counter for many people, just like trump was in the US or meloni in italy. Even tho they might be more extreme than most voters, they vote for them to shift the status quo back towards where most people stand politically.
Therefore this right wing phobia/tabooization is the cause for right wing extremism not the solution.
It's less about having learned a lesson, and more about the contemporary big parties being too busy catering to lobbyists and foreign interests, thus generating enough political apathy so that the rightwingers (which never left, and never 'learned a lesson' because they still firmly believe in the same ideology that started WW2) could build a sizable enough party to start gaining traction.
Keep in mind, there's racists, fascists and general dickwaffles in every country. It's just a matter of not giving them the opportunity to merge with other interests blocs that grant them legitimacy, which the German political landscape failed at.
Their power base is in the former Eastern Germany, which is to Germany what "The South" is for the US.
You're acting like the far right is only a German problem. The Republican party would be considered far right in Germany and they are getting around 40-70% in most elections.

I find the AfD ideology very similar to the Irish MEP Clare Daly which is actually a very left leaning politician. Their stance is, they think Germany is a puppet to the US, and the US and allies are on their version of “moral high ground” and also like to patronise other countries (which is somewhat similar to how I think of things). Although previously, I was always given the impression that they are Neonazis, a group of extremist who have certain racial preferences and someone who are very close minded to multiculturalism, because it’s not very “German”.
