  • China is using bases in Cuba to monitor communications and gather intelligence throughout the southeastern U.S., a practice known as signals intelligence. Beijing and Havana have both denied planned facilities, but U.S. officials say China and Cuba already jointly run four eavesdropping stations on the island.
Satellite dishes and elephant cages are being used to listen in on military communications and tech industry secrets from the U.S. WSJ explains the technology involved, and what the U.S. is doing to defend itself.

This is why there are 700+ U.S bases around the world...

You're absolutely right. among those 700+ bases, 300+ are around China, plus their puppet government in Taiwan. What if Cuba becomes another affiliation of China, and the Chinese government consistently selling them advanced weapons and conducting joint military exercises. I have nothing but respect to the US people, but the government is a combine of extreme selfishness and discrimination towards developing countries and communist countries.

My guess: this is going to be used to triangulate signals in the Atlantic Ocean. As mentioned in the video, it could be of submarines but it also could be of anything that sends signals and is difficult to track with, say, satellite images. That is, if you have at least three listening stations, each placed equidistance from each other in the world, then when each receives the same signal, the difference in time to determine the exact location of the object. This, most likely, is the reason that the US has so many listening stations, in order to triangulate a signal to get its precise location. It can be used, say, to verify that a rocket was launched and where its headed. Or to track a submarine.
