  • I want to show everyone a fake ESEE knife so you know what to look for and you don't get duped. A fake is no where near as good as the real deal.

We appreciate you taking the time to put this out there and we will share as well! All the best.

    Sorry, I found your information totally lacking. What type steel is the fake? Break test? Did you even sharpen it? Did it hold a good edge? Hell I liked the orange - matter of preference ! Did you try to get the fake to fall out of the sheath ? So many questions that you left unanswered.. Why in hell did you remove the coating from your knife when you are in a climate that would totally benefit from it ??? Don' get me wrong I know it is a fake but you say it is junk when every thing you point out is purely cosmetic or a matter of taste or method of manufacture.. Give us fasts. WHY is the fake inferior ? Prove to me you know what you are talking about when you say the fake is junk..

      Sheet is decent gripping, i would never endorse fakes due to being fakes. But if it was no name knife it would be worth 2-5$ you pay on aliexpress/ebay
      The steel was advertised as d2, and im led to believe that it might be. Its hard as rock, hard to sharpen and a bit chippy if sharpened thin behind the edge. I keep my elongated convex and it does the job, almost doesnt need resharpening ( strop once in a while). As i said, its a knife, if you sharpen it it will cut. Should you rely on the knife? Hell no. Casual camping, box opening and stuff? Works like a charm.

    • @sasker1000
      @sasker1000 Před 4 lety

      You honestly believe there is a slight possibility that the fake is on par with or superior to the real deal?! What you are asking for is a test to prove that Esee's 1095 and productionmethod is better than the cheap Chinese mystery steel that a fake must have been made of. It is safe to assume that the fake knife is unlikely to hold and edge as well and break easier when under stress than the real knife. If you think the difference could be negligible, go ahead and buy a fake to see for yourself. They are not that expensive anyway. Just know that you support an illegitimate business.

    • @sasker1000
      @sasker1000 Před 4 lety

    Ya know, I bet the counterfeit producers could make just as much money if they just marketed an honest cheaper "flattery" of the esee. Like change the name to something like EZEE so the buyer is aware. Judging from comments, it seems a lot of viewers would gladly compromise quality for cheap beater purposes. I do feel however that selling them under the ESEE name is just flat out deceiving and I personally would not knowingly purchase or support such businesses. Great informative video Sir.

      @billiejoe9037 Před 3 lety +2

      People just don't trust Chinese manufacturing even though their technological capabilities are more advanced and their workers are more skilled. Look at brands like Viper put out sub $50 knives with full titanium handles and D2 steel with meticulous hand finishing and they look awesome. They've been around for a while, but people don't seem to want the gear they rely on to be Chinese made for some reason. Also, not supporting patent infringement and design theft/counterfeiting. But... lots of people think companies like microtech and benchmade are just not giving a great cost to value ratio and that for the prices they charge their knives should be even better. A fake benchmade 940 is obviously worse than a real one. Ignoring the ethics, there's nobody standing behind the fakes if they break. However, with such tiny differences, if you aren't a die hard adventurer you can probably live with the compromises the fake gives you in exchange for getting something that realistically is identical to anyone who's not a knife enthusiast.

      @joshuastauter107 Před 3 lety

      @@billiejoe9037 "technological capabilities are more advanced and their workers are more skilled"--gonna need some evidence for those claims, bud. The Chinese have yet to equal the heat treat process on an ESEE. "Chinese D2" does not have a good reputation for a reason. They cut corners. And in general Chinese workers don't give a shit (of course, there are exceptions). But whatever you need to tell yourself to enjoy your cheap Chinese toys. I actually use knives and I'll take a $50 real ESEE every time.

    I bought a knockoff from eBay and mines actually not a bad little knife for the sub $20 price and I knew it wasn’t a real esee plus the seller stated it was a copy I only bought to throw in my back pack as a small back up knife and honestly I’m blown away at how great it is holds an edge pretty well using it for normal daily uses I’m sure if i chopped and chiseled and stuff hundreds of times in a test it wouldn’t hold up but in normal life you don’t do that so I had low expectations when I bought it and am very pleased with it since it works better then I though mine is a bit different then the one you showed it’s bright green my sheath is textured and has the 2 little retention nubs in it and there’s no jimping on the back of blade (not fond of that anyway lol) and nothing is etched just painted but the texture of the blade coating is really really close to an actual izula compared to a real one

Now I can tell friends “Don’t take my word for it…..” My fake one is 1/32” wider, the tip is slightly narrower, same ‘serial number’ 51455, you are correct about the textured paint on the fake. The lettering font is thinner on this fake, and painted on for sure, and this fake doesn’t even have gimping. The bevel edge is half as wide as the real deal. The machining isn’t to the same standard. I haven’t tested the hardness of even if it holds an edge, and doubt if I will even take the time.
    I didn’t fall for the fake as I have Esee knives and know you get what you pay for…and my god, it’s from China for Pete’s sake. I bought it to prove a point to my son-in-law, who does have a PHD in Physics from Cal State Berkeley, but doesn’t want to admit that Chinese Manufacturing, at least at this level, and American manufacturing are not the same. Yes,in fact,you can get most ESEE knives in orange...I have a fire ant red Izula but apparently it is exclusive to BladeHQ..I know there has been a fire ant red ESEE 4 at one time but you can’t find them anywhere anymore..I wish they would do a new run of the ESEE 3,ESEE 4,ESEE 6 and ESEE Junglas in fire ant red.I would gladly buy all of these knives in red,even though I already have the Junglas and 4 in black..the red coating with the black G10 scales is absolutely beautiful

      Dan Schwemin Jr I live on an island so there is a shortage of quite a few products. and tell you the truth most of the stuff that I use for Bushcraft or survival or camping especially knives can't be bought at your local Army Surplus and we don't have an REI. So I have to resort to shopping online most of the time for outdoor gear. I avoid eBay as much as possible and I'm smart with online purchases. Mahalo

    Just got one, was 4 bucks on Ebay. Can't say I feel horrible, for 4 bucks it's not a horrible knife. Mine actually came with the instruction sheet, ESEE card, all the stuff with it, but once I got it in my hand, total fake.

  • @rebelreloading5265
    @rebelreloading5265 Před 6 lety

    I bought the fake one on purpose. The coating is weak for sure. Sheath holds good. It’s made of knife quality steel so I don’t see how it’s a bad idea. Sharpen it up, use it as an all-purpose knife without the fear of damaging your $50+ investment. To be honest when will the average hiker use this knife anyway. Most people buy them for personal satisfaction and use them on rare occasion.

    That said, I like buying swiss army knives although and will pay top dollar for these.
