Well done on faceting your first gem. Be careful to polish past the spindle against the rotation of the disc. You can cause some serious damage to both the machine and the polishing disc if the gem digs into the disc.
Thanks a lot , i am very happy with the Stone, especially the colors 💎 I actually forgot to set the machine to CCW before 😬 Thanks for the hint, I really have to pay attention to that.
very nice work on this video, you show the steps a lot more clearly than other videos. danke sehr!
I was very excited to cut my first stone on the v5💎 I tried to record all scenes🙂 Very long Video but i am happy when people enjoy watching and it is helpful. Vielen Dank👍
Thank you for this video. I am learning faceting myself and having some struggles, like cutting too deep, and trying to figure out why, among other issues. Thank you again for going so in depth
Very nice presentation. Would love to start faceting, but it is outside the budget for now. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching. It wasn't possible for me for a long time either, maybe you should start with Cabochons first, there are many cheaper solutions and you already gain a lot of experience in dealing with Gemstones. Never give up, someday your dream will also come true👍
well interesting, I'll be back to this video in the future, nice 1
Love it! This is so cool! Thank you so much!
With pleasure, Thank you for watching and your kind words.
again, excellent play of colors!
Thank you, I am very happy with the result. The Colors in Daylight are exactly as I had hoped for from the rough Stone👍
EXCELLENT- JUST GORGEOUS :)
bravo , nice start , i hope one day i cut some gems with my homemade faceting machine
Thank you, i start "faceting" with simple mirror cuts, free hand on my little flat lap. It is a great experience and a lot of fun👍
Thanks i loved your video
Thank you
Good job on ur first👍👍
Thank you
Nice video 👍, my subscription!
Thank you
very nice work mate coming along nicely
Thank you very much
@@GermanGemcutter your welcome
Habe mir dafür extra selbst meinen Arbeitstisch gebaut. 2,5Meter Arbeitsfläche sind da teilweise schon recht eng mit all den Maschinen, dem Zubehör, Rohmaterial etc. da räumt man häufiger mal was von einer Ecke zur anderen.
Show,thanks
Nice
Thank you
Very nice job!
Thank you
@@GermanGemcutter I wrote to you on Instagram! 👍 I would like to deepen few topics 😀
@@matteoobertoprospector i'll get back to you asap👍
Nice one. I’m trying to get a Faceting machine but not in my budget right now
I also saved for a long time. Thanks for watching.
Top
Thank you👍
Hi, very nice job and very good video. how long does it acutally take you to cut from start to finish?
Well done ! I’m learning thank to you and other people on CZcams channels. Do you use a 90 degree adapter to cut the table ?
And I saw you put other square black metal thing on the lap ? What’s the meaning of that ? I think was on minute 29:25of the video . Thank you !
Too Bad You chose THAT earworm music!
Oh, Good. I just saw You have closed captions. Thank You, For that!
I like tu learn
Thanks for watching👍
Some people cut and polish the table first and go from there on
Hi, great video. I wanted to ask you do you have the soft copy of this book. I wasn’t able to find it online.
Here is a Link to the Author's Website and with all Informations about the Books. www.facetingbook.com/
I have bought my Books in used condition online.
Good job! How did you like the Darkside?
Thank you. I like the Darkside very much. Once you have got the feeling for the correct mixtures, you can polish a lot of different Materials on it, from slowly and carefully up to super fast with very good results. My favourite for Quartz👍
Grüße aus Berlin
how do you know when you have grinded enought material off a face? does the arm refuse to go lower to avoir eating too much of the stone?
That's right, the height of the arm is adjusted by cutting the first facet of each row. You can then easily cut the remaining facets.
One can also set an acoustic signal but I prefer to check optically with a 10x magnifying glass. Thanks for watching
Hi, can be facetted metals this way of any tricks there? Thanks.
That should be possible, yes. Unfortunately I can't give any tips on this. You would have to try out different methods when it comes to grinding and especially polishing.
Great piece, i just bough same book, cheaper than V5 lol
Very good investment👍 the books are great to learn a lot about Faceting. Thanks for watching and your kind words.
Why didn't you cut the pavilion facets in the order given?
Hi again. I am also planning to get into faceting gems. Right now I am kind of trying to get to know more about it. Could you please in simple words explain me what are the definition of deferent laps like Bat lap or something oxide lap that you mentioned. And what kind of lap I should buy. Will appreciate your answer. Thanks.
Ok The Batt Lap is a Metal Lap, Metal Laps are often used with Diamonds for prepolishing and polishing. Non Metal Laps like the Darkside are often used with Oxides for polishing. You have to load a Metal Lap with Diamonds for prepolishing or polishing, which means the Diamond is in the surface of those laps. Oxides are just floating on the surfaces of non Metal laps. The different Metal Laps and Surfaces of Non Metal Laps have different hardnesses and structures for different stones.
A good universal Lap for prepolishing and polishing is the Batt Lap. For polishing Quartz i can recommend the Darkside Lap with Oxides. Also a Copper Lap is a very good universal choice for prepolishing and polishing with Diamond. There are a lot of different recipes for polishing gems.
2x Batt Lap, 1x Copper Lap 1x Darkside for the Beginnig is a very good choice and you can polish a lot of different materials
1Batt for prepolishing e.g. 8k (or 16k)Diamond
1Batt for polishing e.g. 50k Diamond
1 Copper Lap for prepolishing 16k (or 8k )Diamond
1 Darkside for polishing with Oxides
With this Option you have two different Metal Laps for prepolishing an 8k and a 16k, a Metal Lap for polishing with 50k Diamond and a Non Metal Lap for Oxide polishing.
@@GermanGemcutter Thanks a lot. I really appreciate your effort answering to my question, didn’t know that the answer would be that long. I guess it could be whole new video on this topic. 🤝🤝🤝
I like the book you use... please can you tell us where can we find this book?
It is by Tom Herbst www.facetingbook.com/books.html
You can find it on e.g. Amazon
@@GermanGemcutter thanks
what is an affordable but reasonably ok machine for a beginner?
depends on where you are from. But the cheapest one from a reputable company is probably the Sterling Faceting Machine for ~ 2000$ + 360$ shipping
What laps are you using.
For cutting i use diamond discs 260 600 1200 3000, for prepolishing i use batt lap or copper lap and for polishing darkside lap
Which book is that?
Amateur Gemstone Faceting Vol 1+2 by Tom Herbst
Nice vid but music is too loud so becomes irritating - reduce volume 👍🏼
Thanks for the hint. Yes, I am not yet satisfied with the sound myself and am trying different settings. So feedback on the sound is always valuable to me. Many Thanks
looks good. I think if you were to cut the face just a bit more your face points will meet the side facet points.
Yeah, you're right👍 Thanks for watching🙂
Wish you could tell us wich grade disk did you cut it with !!
Start cutting with 260grit Diamond Disc (depending on the size of your Stone, hardness of the Material and how much you have to cut away for your selected shape, you can also start on 600 or direct on 1200) change to 1200grit, fine cutting on 3000. Prepolished on BATT Lap with 8k Diamond, polished with Cerium on the Darkside. In the Meantime i cut a lot more Stones. My Favourite Oxide for Quartz is Zirconium Oxide on the Darkside Lap. As Example ,today i cut a Crown on a bigger Amethyst starting with my well used 260 and change direct to 3k. You will get a good feeling for the right grits very quickly after cutting a few Stones.
