    Well done on faceting your first gem. Be careful to polish past the spindle against the rotation of the disc. You can cause some serious damage to both the machine and the polishing disc if the gem digs into the disc.

    Hervorragende Arbeit für Ihren ersten Edelstein. Ich bin neugierig, warum Sie amerikanisches Equipment verwendet haben und nicht das, was in Europa erhältlich ist. Deutschland hat schon lange eine Edelsteinschleifindustrie und wir nicht. Amerikanische Cutter sind überwiegend Amateure. Ich würde gerne Ihre Meinung hören, wenn möglich. Viel Glück beim Facettieren.

    • @GermanGemcutter
      @GermanGemcutter  Před 3 lety

      Vielen Dank 🙂
      Ja hier in Deutschland ist mir nur noch ein einziger Hersteller bekannt, der Maschinen baut, die zum facettieren benutzt werden können. Das ist Hamag Maschinenbau, es gibt dort drei Lapida Modelle, die kleinste, Lapida 800, benutze ich selbst seit vielen Jahren für Cabochons, zum vorformen und zum sägen. Die Maschinen sind extrem zuverlässig und überleben meist den Schleifer selbst. Lediglich ein Modell hat eine stufenlose Drehzahlregulierung. Zum Facettieren benötigt man dann einen von zwei erhältlichen Facettenköpfen. Ich finde den Aufbau dieser Maschine nicht so komfortabel zum facettieren selbst. Die Maschinen sind so aufgebaut das man diese zum sägen, zum flachschleife, cabochonieren, formenschleifen etc benutzen kann, somit ist der Aufbau als Facettiermaschine nur eine Option und etwas ungewohnt. H&B in Kirschweiler haben viele gute Maschinen aber soweit mir bekannt keine Facettiermaschinen. Edus/Alge und die später hier in DE produzierten Joy Maschinen werden nicht mehr hergestellt und vertrieben. Zudem sind es Plattformmaschinen, die mich persönlich nicht angesprochen haben. Ich bevorzuge Maschinen mit Mast. Die UltraTec Maschinen, sind sehr komfortabel, Qualitativ auf sehr hohem Niveau und es gibt sehr viel sehr gutes Zubehör. Von UltraTec überzeugt hat mich letztendlich die Qualität und das breite Angebot. Wenn man so will könnte man sagen Deutschland ist irgendwo in den 1980er oder 1990er Jahren stehen geblieben was Facettiermaschinen angeht. UltraTec entwickelt sich weiter und das auf einem ohnehin schon extrem hohem Level. Warum sind wir stehen geblieben? Vermutlich weil es sich nicht lohnt, hier in Deutschland ist das interesse an Facettiermaschinen verglichen mit den USA oder Australien nur sehr gering.

    Hi, danke für den content! Irgendwelche Tips für den Kauf einer gebrauchten?

    • @GermanGemcutter
      @GermanGemcutter  Před 3 lety +1

      Sehr gerne und vielen Dank fürs anschauen.
      Es wäre sehr empfehlenswert wenn du eine gebrauchte Maschine vor dem Kauf testen kannst, sprich einmal überprüfen ob alles funktioniert, sind alle beweglichen Teile leichtläufig und ohne spiel etc. Allgemein sollte alles einen gepflegten Eindruck machen. Wenn möglich würde ich dir empfehlen vorab einige Facetten mit der Maschine zu schleifen und prüfen ob diese gleichmäßig eingeschliffen werden. Eine Maschine neu zu kalibrieren ist viel Aufwand oder kostet viel Geld. Da hier in Deutschland kaum gebrauchte Maschinen angeboten werden, ist das natürlich nahezu unmöglich. Mit viel Glück findet man bei manch einem Fachhändler eine generalüberholte und gute Gebrauchte. Generell würde ich dir bei Facettiermaschinen empfehlen Neu zu kaufen. Vorab am besten mal persönlich bei einem Edelsteinschleifer vorbeischauen. Ich selbst habe meine Maschine direkt bei UltraTec gekauft. Wenn du Fragen bezüglich der Abwicklung oder Einfuhr nach Deutschland hast, kannst du dich gerne auch Privat bei mir melden. Kontaktmöglichkeiten sind unten in der Videobeschreibung oder per E-Mail auf der Kanalinfo Seite.

    • @GermanGemcutter
      @GermanGemcutter  Před rokem +1

      That's right, the height of the arm is adjusted by cutting the first facet of each row. You can then easily cut the remaining facets.
      One can also set an acoustic signal but I prefer to check optically with a 10x magnifying glass. Thanks for watching

  • @vectorv750
    @vectorv750 Před 2 lety

    Hi again. I am also planning to get into faceting gems. Right now I am kind of trying to get to know more about it. Could you please in simple words explain me what are the definition of deferent laps like Bat lap or something oxide lap that you mentioned. And what kind of lap I should buy. Will appreciate your answer. Thanks.

    • @GermanGemcutter
      @GermanGemcutter  Před 2 lety +1

      Ok The Batt Lap is a Metal Lap, Metal Laps are often used with Diamonds for prepolishing and polishing. Non Metal Laps like the Darkside are often used with Oxides for polishing. You have to load a Metal Lap with Diamonds for prepolishing or polishing, which means the Diamond is in the surface of those laps. Oxides are just floating on the surfaces of non Metal laps. The different Metal Laps and Surfaces of Non Metal Laps have different hardnesses and structures for different stones.
      A good universal Lap for prepolishing and polishing is the Batt Lap. For polishing Quartz i can recommend the Darkside Lap with Oxides. Also a Copper Lap is a very good universal choice for prepolishing and polishing with Diamond. There are a lot of different recipes for polishing gems.
      2x Batt Lap, 1x Copper Lap 1x Darkside for the Beginnig is a very good choice and you can polish a lot of different materials
      1Batt for prepolishing e.g. 8k (or 16k)Diamond
      1Batt for polishing e.g. 50k Diamond
      1 Copper Lap for prepolishing 16k (or 8k )Diamond
      1 Darkside for polishing with Oxides
      With this Option you have two different Metal Laps for prepolishing an 8k and a 16k, a Metal Lap for polishing with 50k Diamond and a Non Metal Lap for Oxide polishing.

    Wish you could tell us wich grade disk did you cut it with !!

    • @GermanGemcutter
      @GermanGemcutter  Před 3 lety +2

      Start cutting with 260grit Diamond Disc (depending on the size of your Stone, hardness of the Material and how much you have to cut away for your selected shape, you can also start on 600 or direct on 1200) change to 1200grit, fine cutting on 3000. Prepolished on BATT Lap with 8k Diamond, polished with Cerium on the Darkside. In the Meantime i cut a lot more Stones. My Favourite Oxide for Quartz is Zirconium Oxide on the Darkside Lap. As Example ,today i cut a Crown on a bigger Amethyst starting with my well used 260 and change direct to 3k. You will get a good feeling for the right grits very quickly after cutting a few Stones.
