Me, too. I had never met a muslim, never seen a Qur'an. Until the last few years, even the big chain bookstore here only had Christian, Buddhist and Pagan books in their religion section. My only reference to Islam was the poetry of Rumi, where the beliefs were shrouded in mysticism.

Hence, many advertisements we see do not always depict the positive side of people of color and this can be quite disheartening. I too, want to see women whom I can relate to also. Especially if so many things are about race.
Though my thought process may not be the same intentionally and personally. In the end, it comes down to where I feel comfortable and where I do not feel comfortable; depending on someone else’s thought process. Especially, when pertaining to majority/ the way many people tend to marginalize others depending on their race.
When you spoke about your difficulty and contemplating suicide, and the moment you felt the sun came from for you. Like Allah(SWT) was letting you know you’d be okay. I have had a similar moment with the sun and I knew. All my despair subsided and I felt at peace. What you spoke about made me cry so much. Coming from a Christian family and praying my longterm relationship(at the time)would turn into marriage. I have been there. When you also spoke about women relationships and not having the best of experiences, support, and learning to put oneself out there and step out of the box, wow!
You helped me in so many ways! This is my second Ramadan and considering I’m in crazy New York and away from my husband; it has felt less than ideal. I felt at every corner Shaytan was there meddling with my plans. Eid, is upon us and I don’t feel worthy, and nor does this environment make for the most ideal for me personally.
But, Alhamdulilah, I am here and able to take part and, in cha ALLAH🤲🏽❤️, next year I will have an opportunity to do better.
