  • Since coming into the league, Connor Bedard has undoubtably impressed. He’s shown us why he was the number one pick, why he’s a generational talent. It took some time to break in, but the kid is the real deal. But at 18, he's still jus that. A kid. He’s certainly on the smaller side and there has been an undertone of worry that its just a matter of time before he takes a hit that really leaves him shaken up and tonight, in what was a chippy game between the Devils and Blackhawks, that's exactly what happened. Connor Bedard took a hit from Smith and immediately went off the ice holding his jaw. The game went into absolute chaos from there on out as you may expect in what was a fun one. Notably, Jack Hughes ALSO went down the tunnel with an apparent injury late in the game as you really hate to see two of the leagues brightest young stars injured in the same game. I cover it all in todays NHL hockey video!

that's a beautiful hit right there, but good to see Bedard's teammates stick up for him as he's so small and so young. Didn't get out of hand, no intent to seriously injury but still plenty of passion shown and some gorgeous goals to top it off. Exactly how I like my hockey

Hard to find anything illegal about the hit in itself from our vantage point but to call a hit who broke a rookie talent’s jaw leaving him out of the game for a long good while “beautiful” is borderline psychopathic/sadistic.

And I like physical hockey too but I’m getting a bit tired of all this “clean hit”/“beautiful hit” comments on plays that knock players out with serious injuries.. I personally hate hits with initial contact on shoulders or other body parts before hitting the head to knock a player unconscious.. I don’t think the initial point of contact should matter as much as how hard the head actually gets hit by the check as a whole.. sometimes “the initial contact” is almost insubstantial before it makes contact with the head..

While you hate to see players, especially young highly talented players, leave the ice and not return, this seemed like a throw back game… big hits, penalties, fights… and some good hockey in between. A lot of the time these days it’s all “nicey-nice”… the hits are token gestures, the fights are very few, it’s all a bit friendly for the hardest hitting team sport in the world. There was a bit of nastiness in this one, a “you took out our star, we’re taking you all out!”, replied with a “bring it on, bitches!”
You hardly see players sticking up for their stars or their goalies anymore, so it’s quite refreshing to see some actual back-and-forth between the 2 teams.

IDC if ppl disagree, but Foglino makes current NHL hockey look ridiculous since his fight against Corey Perry, waiting later to fight a guy. Bad for Bedard but relatively clean hit. This is why the Forwards need to protect the Center, especially if he is your star player (and a kid).
Hit was Clean, absolutely no issue there, it happens. I suggest Bedard either switch to a cage or fishbowl if he wants to protect his face.
Looks like Hughes did a number on his wrist when he fell as his stick got trapped under his skate, thats unfortunate.
Both teams got very heated in this game (which is understandable), but the devils managed to keep good pressure in the 3rd as the Hawks seemed to lose their momentum that they had in the 2nd. I also don't think pulling the Goalie at the end of the 3rd has really worked out well for most teams this season, it is basically a free goal at the end of the game for the other team now.

They do it to remove the momentum and restart, both physically and mentally. Plus, he's one of the few stars in the team, and with such a gentle hit, they're already doomed. How are they expecting people not to play hockey against them just because the League wants to advertise the kid? When Leo Carlsson went down badly, nobody reacted because it was unintentional and the Ducks have a team that isn't built around one player only. The same cannot be said for the Hawks.
