Looks like Painkiller got the modern Doom treatment
Planets devastated
Mankind's on its knees
A savior comes from out the skies
In answer to their pleas
My 2 favorite games ❤ im beyond excited
exactly the same said my old friend!
It is crazy how good the Idtech engine really is. One of the best optimized engines out there along with Source. Doom 2016 running in Ultra Nightmare setiings on PC still holds up very well in 2024. Cant wait
Source? Optimised? That’s a good joke.
Source feels optimised because it’s old and doesn’t do much. The internal architecture was decent for the day, but calling it optimised is a far, far stretch on essentially any modern system (and by modern I mean anything from the last 15 years.)
@@nolramDude...Source was very well optimized since day one. Since Half Life 2 released. How old are you? I am 40 years old and i was 20 when Half Life 2 launched. Half Life 2 was made with source and it was running like a dream in my pc. It was very well optimized since day one.
@@urazsoktay5275 It was decently optimised for the time as I said - the BSP system worked great for acceleration since most of the levels were built out of explicitly defined geometric surfaces, but nowadays games almost never use that sort of hand-defined primitive geometry, but rather are built out of more complex meshes… and that’s where sources’s issues begin to show. Source games performed worse and worse over time as maps became more and more based on models and less BSP. Source’s map compiler could therefore optimise them less.
Additionally, Source’s threading model is extremely limited, and therefore Source couldn’t make use of the many cores available on modern CPUs.
I'm getting heavy Quake vibes with this one, and I'm here for it. Also excited for another well optimized game, 2016 and Eternal are wonderful for that
I felt 2016 and eternal were more like quake. Quake had actual jumping and jump puzzle sections in secret levels. The lack of jumping and more 'stand your ground' combat with slower moving bullets feels more like classic doom. I suppose the stake gun is similar to the nail gun, but otherwise, classic doom. Still, all these games are incredible
Probably they will go for quake after the dark ages , I hope they do!!
There's nothing really that screams "Quake" about this. The old Doom games also had castles.
IDK why they didn't just make quake
@@GallowayJesse Probably pressure from Microsoft. They probably needed a game they knew would sell or face shutdown. Doom is a guaranteed seller, and theyve proven capable of exceeding consumer expectations with it. Quake is an unknown, and historically it never was as popular as Doom. Their next game may be Quake, but they probably did Doom to save their company. I still can't believe those cocksuckers shut down Tango and Arkane Austin.
Some Serious Sam vibes in some sections (mobs of enemies in big open areas).
Just when I think they can't make the armor any better they add a cape.
Just when I think they can't make the gameplay any better they add a dark souls.
Just when I think they can't make the weapons any better they add a BOOMERANG CHAINSHIELD HOLY CHRIST I NEED THIS GAME NOW
The stake launcher reminds me of a re-worked version of RAGE’s rebar launcher, which is a sick weapon…AAAAAND another IDsoftware title.
I totally thought this was Painkiller and Doom making a baby when I first saw it. Painkiller is a GREAT classic game. So far ahead of its time.
I'd love to see another asymmetrical team-based objective shooter like Quake Wars again built on this tech. It's so smooth amd fast to run on even basic hardware these days whils looking really good.
I’m actually really happy to see them trying something new and explicitly saying they want a whole new combat focus because it would have been really easy to just do Doom Eternal again with new levels, but this is much more interestinf
I'd have loved an iteration on Eternal because that's the best FPS I have ever played, it's uniquely above everything else in the genre. But then again maybe they're smart in not even trying to top it and instead doing something new.
I'm eager to play it.
2:02 - Nah, it's more like a wing with a jetpack which he hangs from, not the other way around. Obviously it's modeled to look like a dragon, but more in the way Batman is modeled after a bat, especially when gliding through the air.
best announcement from summer games show
Feels like a new Painkiller with a DooM varnish! Sweet!
They took the scene in the 2nd eternal trailer where he fillets a cyberdemon with the mega sword and just carried on with that tempo...with a few cool scenes of him getting ready to grind some meat in his flying death ship.
Just brutal stuff.
Going back to the roots of doom is always welcome
Since we didn’t see the “ammo piñata”, I’m hoping this goes back to old school Doom. I like the idea of not getting ammo through kills, and just getting it through exploration.
I just Cant Wait for a New Doom Game plus i really like the Term "Ammo Piñata"
I would say around 1:36 that was a new sort of GK highlight system instead of the old orange/blue highlight system that I always turned off.
I think that was more the enemy being stunned because it was parried than a gk
@@jackoski__19 Yeah pretty much the same thing as the hammer from TAG.
I wonder what the gameplay for the dragon is going to be like.
I love it!! Its like doom is evolving in to the first quake in the games themselves! Also personally eternal was a bit to twitchy for me (im old lol) but this more horde looking gameplay has me really excited
Looks like we are going back to the brown/grey era. Doom and Gears of War are at least.
I love color full games.
I want to use a guts sized sword in this game
They should jusk make a nex Nexen at this point. They could totally pull this off.
i hope quake and hexen are the next games from id
I'm surprise the stake gun reminds people of Painkiller before Quake.
Painkillers version would impale enemies to walls so that why the comparison is made.
quake has a nailgun. Although i did immediately think of Quake
I'm sure Hugo Martin said something last week that the game is bigger and there will be more exploration and backtracking to open other areas which makes it sound almost metroidvania semi open you could still have missions and a wide variety of locations but also massive complex dungeons huge open combat areas etc. Obviously he wasnt specific but it sounded like they wanted something much bigger and more intricate
Sounds like the original Doom, which is a good thing. Map backtracking, multiple routes, more sprawling, open areas.
0:30 John haven’t you noticed that everything medieval is trending???
Cod, doom and gears of war carried the whole showcase
they are still making cod and gears?😂 those games are ancient. I haven't played them since 2009
@@oscarsalesgirl296100 million people a month play cod so i don’t think they care if you do lol i dont either but still far from a dead franchise.
@@oscarsalesgirl296 Same rofl. I can't believe they are still making these games apparently
@@GallowayJesse I guess it's like FIFA at this point
Gears and cod are old? You realize Doom is the father of FPS games right?
I prefer more color than everything grayish give me all the tech and colors you like we don’t need any more dull looking games
mark my words. This game is going to be a arena / bullethell. It looks like an old school shmup mixed with an fps
Hugo Martin pretty much confirmed this yup, it'll be focused on deliberate horizontal movement to dodge projectiles, if a jump button even still exists in the game it's no doubt heavily nerfed from DE, the game is going to be super horizontal.
Damn I don't wanna be lost in space, finding the destination on a map, into a first person action shooter!
oh god, you just described starfield
Idk, the place where RT actually makes sense is global illumination.
*Everybody liked that*
Microsoft bought Activision to make a new Hexen game in DOOM lol
I doubt Microsoft have had much input into Doom: Dark Ages.
Funny thing that ID Software published Hexen and both of their games use their engines.
It's M$ big brain time xD
Now it's ID, not microsoft@fcukugimmeausername
Also the Dragon looks like its out of Digimon or Fortnite. Definitely learning into a kid friendly look
The dragon looks sick
@@GallowayJesse it looks like Paw Patrol
Doom The Dark Ages looks amazing for sure.
I'm more surprised that a PS5 version was confirmed. So naturally that leads me to wonder if we're gonna get a PS5 release for Doom and Doom Eternal. It would be nice to have locked 60fps and improvements to visuals.
Doom Eternal has a PS5/SX relase. Doom 2016 is 60 fps and has a pro and X patch for the respective last gen console.
Both games already run at 60fps on PS5 Eternal can run at 120fps 2016 is locked to 60fps on ps4/ps5.
Ummmmmm ? 😂
You obviously don’t have a PS5.
The game is dropping frames to 40s at some points in the trailer. It can just be the video stream or just unoptimized game at this point. I was hoping you would also tackle resolution and motion blur, though
It's just unoptimized. It's a year out from release, don't forget
@@Jay-og4yb sure, I get it :P

I wish Elden Ring would (technically) look this good
I wish Elden Ring would run this good. Performance is still garbage :-(
Doom isn’t a massive open world with no loading screens.
Elden ring is cross gen
@@ronthorn3Ghost of Tsushima and Horizon Forbidden West are massive open worlds without loading screens and they both look and run a million times better than ER.
For me DOOM 2016 is the best one by far. Didn’t like the mechanics of Eternal. This one looks awesome and more toward 2016 than Eternal so I’m in
I do think the character model was actually very distracting and not in a good way because with the camera angles chosen, it just felt like (...) this game seems like came out un like '02 in terms like you know its character design like a bit old and not flattering, I don't think for a modern audience, in comparison Forespoken which has a more realistic character design, it's not like this hyper proportions...
I liked ammo system of eternal, it was incredible
I appreciate a testosterone white male fps game still exists in 2024. I just wish there was a maga hat skin. That would seriously put this game to the next level
Im SO ready. Just hope it comes to switch 2 lol
hope it doesnt feel like RAGE 2....
They should delay their games to ps5 just like some does
As always PC will be the best place to play this game. Better visuals, better ray tracing, mouse and keyboard (lmao imagine playing Doom with a controller...this ain't COD...its Doom), and of course framerates a console gamer will never experience.
This video could have been 3 minutes
I personally do t care for ray tracing. Give me frame rate all day ery day
Why not both? DLSS3 frame gen baby.
I liked Doom 2016 and disliked DE due the weapon swapping and weapon specific enemy weak points. This new one will not be an automatic buy.
Im calling it now, this will be the best Doom game ever made
No doubt about that
Hell no. That'd be Ultimate Doom. If this is on par, then it will be amazing
If it's even as good as eternal I will nut
What a nice joke you have there
It's almost physically impossible to top Doom Eternal. Plus we know next to nothing about the game.
Stop drinking the hype juice my man.
PS5 does it again 😎
id tech 7 can run on a ti-86 calculator, it's _that_ efficient, don't know why more companies don't license it over UE4/5 or Unity
Because Unreal is way more streamlined and a lot of people know how to use it.
Because it’s not available for licensing. Id tech is proprietary to Id Software (and one or two other ZeniMax Studios).
Nobody is licensing it because it’s not available to license.
@@nolram Pretty sure any big studio could make a deal to license it, but it's much simpler to just use Unreal which a lot of people already know how to use.
@@pmrd Id themselves have said that they are not licensing it out anymore. It’s not worth it for them financially - as when they license it out, they’d most likely have to provide support and documentation. And they just aren’t interested in sharing their tech anymore since engines like Unreal are available.
@@nolram makes sense
Xbox absolutely KILLED it. I literally didn't see anything from ps other than another pc game that looks like guardians of the galaxy. Also, they're bringing more games to M$ Windows... bad year to be a pony
Please, no platforming. Doom 2016 was so much better for not including this. This could be awesome.
#NotmyDoom
If they are able to port this game to either Switch platform then they might as well port it to the PS4 and PS4 Pro
Is the Switch 2 leaning towards being more or less powerful than PS4/Xone?
@@BUPMY1 Well the last Switch was kinda on par with PS3 and Xbox360. So this one might be something like the PS4 right?
@@bulutcagdas1071 You probably right. Is that good enough?
@@BUPMY1 Really depends on the game itself and how talented the port devs are.
This is great news if there are less saw/glory kills. I don't mind them as they can add to the flow of the play, but as being the SOLE way to get ammo and health, I felt it wasn't the greatest mechanic. This is looking great so far! Still absolutely LOVE Doom 3, Doom 2016, and Eternal. They need to ditch the fur coat/cape though. It looks... out of place. Send it back to From Soft.
It wasn't the only way to get health, armor and ammo. There was also those scattered around the map as pick up. It does allow you to play much more aggressively and get rewarded for it. Rather then sitting behind cover shooting from a distance.
@@gothpunkboy89 I was exaggerating. I did play through the entire game, and absolutely love it. Still go and replay missions every so often. I don't have any real complaints with it, and I actually like it when they experiment with the formulae a bit. My personal style of play though, leans a bit more toward more traditional drops, set locations, etc. Nothing wrong with however they want to do it though. I adapt. It just wasn't my favorite mechanic is all.
this game going to be a snoozefest after eternal
the gameplay looks more than 50% slower
It's not supposed to be like eternal. ID says they never want to remake the same game twice. With this new DOOM, they're trying to innovate and make it different from the last, however, they still want to demonstrate the slayer's true power. Based on what I've seen ID do, it wouldn't surprise me if they make a game that is engaging through ways different from eternal.
"I'm getting Quake vibes" - people who don't know what Hexen is
to be fair, the open level layouts are little more Heretic than Hexen but I respect the grind
Are you sure you know what Hexen is? A convoluted switch hunting fest (I love it though). I've not seen a single switch in this trailer.
This looks more like the later Doom 64 levels than anything else.
Watch the "Eternal" fans cry about how "Dark Ages" is different, like the "2016" fans cried over how "Eternal" was "too different'. - One point where the hypocrisy of gamers always comes through without fail. I mean, they moan about "games are always the same, do something different" and then a game is different and they complain, cause they can't get their fix. - If you want the same game, just play the same game, cause that's what you wanted all along. - I really like it when a franchise just tries to change things up, especially in one that isn't too serious and can get away with it. - If it's something like a more "serious" story-driven action/adventure, then yea, you might want to adhere to something that's the same, save for some extra features. But for DOOM... Whatever, do you really want it to be the same just in a different setting again?... Man, guess if you do you also just love all of the Assassin's Creed games up until "Origins", when it suddenly was changed up and "not Assassin's Creed anymore", cause boo-hoo, they tried something different. - Anyway, watch it happen with this game once again.
Ok
I just hope they've dropped all that parkor from eternal.
I hope they haven't, they made first person platforming damn fun and it helped to pace the combat better.
@@innoclarke7435nah, the platforming killed Eternal.
I enjoy the platforming.
@@innoclarke7435 exactly.. and platforming wasn't there for the sake of platforming.. it was a gameplay mechanic. It had purpose in combat. On high difficulties you should spend time in the air as much as possible and with Air control rune it was the best way to tackle large number of enemies.
@@fcukugimmeausernamethe 5-10 mins of platforming in the 8-10 hour campaign ruined eternal? Really?

I don't like it, i liked Doom 3 but i don't like this, i think its too open
DOOM 3, that last great doom game
I never finished the reboot but it was cool. Didn't like doom eternal. Ill get this on sale at some point because it looks cool. Alwaus liked the theme of Doom
It looks like what witchfire should have been.
Fun fact. Doomguy produces so much testosterone that the side effect gives him accelerated back hair growth that was then cut and fine woven into his new fur cape. LOL
I did not like the ammo system from eternal, just give me ammo packs and let me blast some demons. I dont want to be out of ammo all the time if i dont do a certain glory kill
Chainsaws are abundant free kills and ammo packs basically. I feel like people conserved them too much and the game would’ve done better by emphasizing that they recharge really quickly and should be used all the time. I can get through whole arenas with only the super shotgun basically
Doom Eternal: "Oh, you fired your Super Shotgun twice? Looks like you're out of ammo now."
There are ammo pickups, there are ammo upgrades, a recharging chainsaw that refills all ammo, recharging equipment.... I mean bro it sounds like you just want a mindless shooter which is totally fine but eternal wasn't that
The levels were littered with ammo pickups and lots of them respawn.
@@Jay-og4ybNailed it
I like how they said you wont fly around like a damn jet plane anymore.
This gives me some hope the game isnt another DooM on meth.
I hope this isnt another Arena shooter.
One of my big complaints about Eternal (I only got through about 2-3 areas iirc) was there was no tactical flexibility. The combat is so prescriptive. In 16 I could somewhat choose how to approach an area and lean into the weapons I liked (within limits) and it was much more fun.
You can do that in eternal, it just starts more restrictive.
This is blatantly false. The game is one of the least prescriptive shooters ever made. What you experienced was them easing you into the game's unique flow and mechanics, because otherwise it would be VERY overwhelming, but even in the time you played (if you got to even the third level), then it was already giving you alternative tools to be more creative and experiment with. Once you get more weapons, you're getting the weapon mods, and all the other tools used in combat, the game becomes EXTREMELY open to innumerable styles of play.
Though it's very strange, because 2-3 areas into 2016, you had even LESS tactical flexibility compared to 2-3 areas into Eternal. And by not even halfway into Eternal, you have more options than you did even at the end of 2016.
What I think you really mean isn't that it's actually more prescriptive. What you mean, and this is indicated by you applauding 2016 letting you lean more into specific weapons you liked, is that Eternal demands more from the player. Weapons aren't just "this weapon is so good, I'll just keep using it as much as I can" and are tools to be swapped between and used creatively to solve problems. Doom 2016 is fun enough, but it's absolutely easier and less demanding on the player to think outside of the box. It's more conventional - *that* is ultimately what you like more about it.
@@zachm1007 I'll give it a try again then. Good to know it opens up some.
@@christophercasale7961 The best part of the game IMO is 2nd playthrough/ DLC/Master Levels with a fully upgraded character, on Nightmare. It definitely is flexible at that point, i think they tacked on too many progression systems that make the early levels feel too restricted
Sorry to say that you simply did not properly engage with the mechanics. There is so much flexibility in how you deal with enemies. Under the mayo just released a good video on this very topic.
friends there are way better videos from doom freaks with lore and more! again df is... thumbs down
They should have went full medieval. This halfway scifi look is definitely a compromise and just doesn't feel right. Feels like the Concept Artists were on autopilot.
But the Sentinel tech has always felt a mix of medieval and sci fi tech. And that's in universe thanks to the influence of the Makyrs on Argent d'Nur.
Well, they are not warring in mankind's reality and are in like the multiverse cross roads or something. I can't remember how all this crap works. LOL I'm still confused on the lore but the Knight Sentinels and using Maykr technology, they were technologically advanced fighting against hells army so it does make sense it's still all sci-fi like.
@@GabrielArchon i don't think it feels right for this game. I think they should have gone full medieval. Doom slayer would still be scifi/have guns but all the demons would be way cooler if they were straight out of a medieval painting
@@Banana_Knight It would have been cooler in an actually medieval setting. There are plenty of demons in Hieronymus Bosch paintings which would have been fun as hell to fight!
Can they make a AAA game in 2025 without ray tracing? Id be really shocked if so.
To me Eternal was a version of doom inspired by Fortnite. Way too over colored for my taste. Great game, but I felt at times I was running around eating candy.
i did not like eternal due to haveing to use the enemys for ammo, health etc, it broke up the flow and dont get me started on the platforming.
so i hope this is going in another direction as i like Doom a lot but not eternal.

@@joshuatealeaves Marty threw Mick Gordon under the bus with the whole Doom eternal OST situation when in reality he was being a real piece of shit to Mick. And just treating him very poorly during the games entire development cycle from when he was brought on board. Mick Gordon made a really long post about it on medium with receipts, but there's also videos on CZcams summarizing or going over the entire post. I recommend looking into it. Doom 2016 barely even holds 30 fps on Switch which makes it virtually unplayable. An FPS at 30 fps is unplayable. The only game you can make a case for that is playable and "acceptable" at 30 fps is Luigi's Mansion since it takes place in dim and dark small scale indoor places and the camera is fixed which tricks your eyes into thinking it is "smooth". But that's it.
If Doom 2016 was on PS3 I'm sure they would of got it to run at 60 fps as the PS3 is technically more capable than the switch especially with the Cell 8 SPUs processor which handles a big chunk of the graphical calculations. Just because the switch has more RAM than the PS3 doesn't actually mean it's more powerful according to all these online myths. RAM is only 1 component of a whole system. The Integra 1 GPU on the switch is slightly outperformed by PS3's RSX chip and the Cell litetarlly eats the switch 's CPU for breakfast so the more RAM "advantage" isnt really pushing the needle much for the switch because its CPU and GPU are incredibly weak. It would be comparable to a PS2.5
More bugthesda garbage
