- I finally checked out the Family Thrift Center Outlet! I had a WILD experience but found some cool things to resell!

Yup...It's getting crazier all the time. I live in Northwestern burbs of Chicago. Generally manners are everywhere. People are kind and friendly. At Nordstrom Rack a week ago, I was in the designer section. I had my "hands" on a Aritzia jacket and a teen with her parents walked right up to me pulled the jacket out of my hands over my head showed it to her parents and kept walking. The mom/dad acted like nothing happened. Within a minute or two they just simply put it back on the rack...It was so shocking I literally didn't have me defensive game face on. I just smirked at how crazy people are. But at Goodwill around here people will crowd you and get in your space reach over you all the time. I use a cart as a weapon against the reach over.

Definitely try to go back! I visited a local thrift store for the first time months ago, and the customers there just turned me off. They were so rude. But I went back there like a month later and Im glad I did because I found such good things!
Yes!! I definitely gotta go back, will not let that experience define the store just gotta take it into consideration for how I approach going back.
From one woman to another... you are very beautiful! People can be very hateful when they are jealous. It took many years for me to figure that out. I used to have long blonde hair and a petite curvy figure and I took the time to dress up everyday. Strangers would verbally attack me out of nowhere, pull my hair and try to intimidate me. It made me feel very insecure and ungrounded and took many years for me to feel stronger again. For a period of time I dyed my hair darker and put on weight because I didn't want any attention which was not the right thing to do and I realize that now. You held your ground and I'm proud of you!

I second this, a lot of women are jealous and competitive and thrifting seems to turn people into animals. I dress up and get a lot of attention sometimes. Women try to intimidate me a lot by getting in my personal space, literally reaching in front of where I'm looking, and just overall aggressive behavior. They are just insecure and bitter, don't let it get to you.

Family Thrift Outlet is my place. It can get insane at times but Iâve never been treated like that. Thatâs terrible! So sorry you had that experienceđDefinitely do let that lady scare you off!! They have such great deals even after the crazy shoppers leave later in the day!

That's wild! We love the family thrift outlet, but usually go together, so there's never any issue. Was it the one on W Little York? We love finding vintage there, too! We never get to go on Thursdays mornings when the new racks racks are out (full-time jobs..). Anyhow, if you ever want to go together, we should try to work something out! Great haul, Natalie!

A seamstress could easily fix the zipper for around $8-$10. Dry cleaners often have alteration services. Nice haul!

First of all. I am so so sorry you had to experience that horrible situation. I would be so scared to. I carry my pepper spray all the time. I advise u to as well. But great finds!

girllll I saw you are from Houston and same! We go to the one on little York every Thursday. Which one was this one?
You need to go again and not let that woman ruin it for you. I would have reported her to the manager when you got to the cashier. I go to the goodwill outlet once a week and one time when I was there a regular came running across the room when they let us in from.behind me saying that's my bin as though we were on the block and he owned that corner. I let him have it as I was not beat to argue and get myself kicked out as I would have ripped him. I did report him to management and they warned him that he has no right to do that and he would be banned if he did it again. I see him every week and keeps his mouth shut and never tried that again with me.
Hahaha yes! I love this. I did report them so hopefully they are not permitted back. I have found the goodwill outlet handles situations so well, they are very strict about enforcing their rules and I appreciate that as it usually goes smoothly there.

They might be trying to intimidate new shoppers / resellers. When I started going to my local bins a few regulars tried to intimidate me in a similar way. After a few visits they completely backed off. Itâs so unfortunate!!

One thing that may help avoid something like that again (well first let me say you absolutely should not have been treated like that and I'm so sorry you had to go through that. Makes me sad that some people walk around so hateful and rude all the time) but I was gonna say i think people think that once you hang something back up on the rack that you have decided that you are putting it back and not getting it . Therefore it is back up for grabs. I know alot of people who like to shop those racks specifically to find the nice things people have changed their minds about. So maybe next time do one piece at a time and decide: keep it put = put directly back in cart , or not keeping it= then put on rack.. Hope this helps. I'll never understand why some people have to be so rude there is plenty for all of us to find great things. Hugs
For sure! I definitely will do this, the handle of the cart will be for my maybes and the rack to put back :-)
I use two carts to sort. I no longer hang it back on the rack to sort because I have had people get really aggressive and try to take items, just like you experienced. When I am ready to sort, I grab an empty cart and put the "Keep" items in the empty cart. The "throw backs" stay in the original cart until I am finished. Then I hang the throw back items back on the rack.

Thatâs the one draw back of shopping at thrift stores. It attracts all types of people. Itâs certainly not you. They just have other things going on mentally. People have gotten rude/mad with me over carts. Like itâs never that serious.

@@CuratedbyNatalie I have only been once when every item is $0.50 which i thought would be more worth it than to go on a day where everything is $0.25.
I think it could get potentially as bad since everything is sectioned off into a small area and everyone is right behind you looking at things. I have the same complaint as you as far as how everything is crammed onto the racks so it is difficult to look through.
did your store have a dress section?
I went to 25 cent day once in San Antonio. Never again! It was like being packed into a can of sardines. It was miserable. I definitely wouldn't risk it in these covid times. It is open short hours on 25 cent day.
