What's so terrifying about this film is that it stems from the culture's belief and emphasis on the power of emotions, and how they are just as important and a part of us as our physical appendages are. if you did with unexpressed resentment, hatred, etc. that's what will occupy the space where you passed. it's not simply a curse in the way American's view curses, it's emotional energy.
The look in your face has changed significantly from your first horror movie. Back then it was pure fear. Now it's both fear, pure joy and excitement ❤
Giving the origins of The Grudge the spirit would be an Onryō literally "vengeful spirit", sometimes rendered "wrathful spirit" is a mythological spirit of vengeance from Japanese folklore. They can actually physically manifest to attack and kill victims.
They worst thing about these demons is that they don't respect simple rules. When you're in your bed and under the covers YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE SAFE, DAMMIT!!

This movie traumatized me as a kid. At the time I lived in a house that was unfinished. My bed was across from my closet and the closet had no door and no ceiling. So I could see into the attic while laying in bed. I had a really hard time sleeping.
Ju-On is flipping terrifying. There are two scenes in that version that make my skin crawl. I think its 10x scarier than the American version

Regarding Takeo’s body, yes physics would have stopped the thumping, but what this movie didn’t show was that Toshio’s ghost was sitting there pushing the body’s legs, causing them to keep thumping. Also, he was hanging by Kayako’s hair from the ceiling.
