    Okay. Here are my initial picks to get ya started, in order:
    The Omen (1976)¹
    Damien: Omen II (1978)*
    The Shining (1980)¹
    Halloween (1978)*¹
    Evil Dead (1981)*¹
    Prince of Darkness (1987)
    'Salem's Lot (1979)¹
    Night of the Living Dead (1968)
    The Conjuring (2013)*
    * These have sequels. ¹ These have reboots.
    They can all wait til later.

    • @Apostasy362
      @Apostasy362 Před rokem +1

      There’s a reason I have these specific movies, in this specific order.
      All but the last one are the older, classic GOATs of the horror genre. All but (arguably) NotLD are supernatural thrillers, with a couple of OG slasher-type movies, and they’re a representative sample of some of the greatest directors of all time (John Carpenter, Sam Raimi, and Stanley Kubrick to name a few). Most of the horror films that followed borrowed heavily from these, either in theme, subject matter, or directorial methods.
      Again, my $0.02.

    • @Carlos559Caps
      @Carlos559Caps Před rokem

      Call me what you will but imma choose the Evil Dead remake from 2013 over the original. Very few films in general can match the originals and I think this may be one of the few from those few that did better.
      If someone plans to watch them all they should obviously start with the old and go in order but man oh man the remake is a great stand alone film for anyone that's a fan or horror.

    • @Apostasy362
      @Apostasy362 Před rokem +1

      @@Carlos559Caps I’m not gonna call you anything lol. The reboot is an excellent movie, and a strong argument can be made that it surpasses the original. But with state-of-the-art SFX and a budget that was orders of magnitude more than they had to work with back in the day, it’s not a stretch. Comparing the two on equal footing is madness.
      Point is, Sam, Robert, and Bruce created something terrifying and truly iconic on less than a shoestring budget. I’ll say it again: the reboot was a great film. But at the end of the day, it would never have come to be were it not for the original team’s groundbreaking work. For that reason alone, you can’t watch the reboot without watching the original. It needs to be seen as well, and I’ll die on that hill.

      I find that watching the special features from the Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer DVD [especially the behind the scenes on creating the props, cinema gore / blood, etc.] really helps folks bring it back to reality that's it's all really just cinematic craft, lots of corn syrup, red food coloring, crazy props, latex, etc. It's a lot easier to kinda' distance oneself from the horror and the scares when one kinda' knows the cinema craft that goes in to making it and one kinda' just enjoys it for the art of it, of a sort. The art of the scare, I guess. Good direction, ambiance, art direction, etc.
      I mean, that's not to say that jump scares don't still get me occasionally, but it's all a bit less "terrifying" when one has in one's brain "corn syrup and red food coloring." And just enjoys it for the good stuff. ;)

    Hi Kat. Lots of reactors on CZcams, and they all react to the same well-trod movies. For horror, try: The Legend of Hell House (with Roddy McDowell), The Sixth Sense, The Others, Haunted (with Kate Beckinsale), An American Werewolf In London, The Thing (1982), The Keep (which is lkinda weird but has some cool effects and stars a younger Ian McKellen, Scott Glenn, Jurgen Prochnow, and Gabriel Byrne.

    I was born in 1982, and never watched any horror movies untill a few years ago.
    My best friend found out that I never really saw any horror flicks and he has now made it his personal goal and mission to shouw my as many as possible.
    Last night we saw INCIDIOUS.... I have never seen a movie that kept my heart-rate above 110 for the entier lenght of the movie, untill THIS movie...!
    Love it..!

    "Are you telling me some people watch this for fun?" *me raises hand slowly while blushing* " Uhm, Kat Ma'am, I do. I'm autistic and horror movies get me out of panic attacks and calm me down. Also, if I can sleep, I watch a horror movie and after, there's a bigger chance of me falling asleep" *Lowers her hand slowly again and looks down while blushing*

    Awesome reaction, Kat!
    Of course we watch horror movies for fun! You only have a few hundred more to go before you're desensitized enough to enjoy them as well 🤣
    As other people have mentioned, you definitely need to watch Insidious 2. It's connected to the first one in a really clever way. Then you can move on to The Conjuring and a whole related universe of films.
    One movie that I didn't see mentioned in the comments is 1986's The Fly which would pair well with 1982's The Thing, which others have suggested. They're both in the body horror subgenre. I should probably warn you not to eat anything before you watch The Fly. In fact, if you have a weak stomach or get grossed out easily you might want to skip it entirely.
    Can't wait to see the next reaction!

    Hey Kat, there are more Insidious movies. You should consider watching Sinister or, a older movie called The Entity that stars Barbara Hershey. I believe that movie was made in the 1970's also, I think it's based on actual events. It would be soo much fun to actually watch these movies with you in person, I would be cracking up the entire time but of course, would have to sit far away with your fists of fury lol! Love your reactions, keep them coming 😊

    Fun facts for you fine folks: Lin Shaye has a long and storied history with horror. Her brother, Robert Shaye, started and was the CEO of New Line Cinema. If you recall horror films of the 80's and 90's, you probably remember seeing their logo at the start of many of them. New Line played a pivotal role in bringing horror to the masses during the VHS boom. They struggled until A Nightmare on Elm Street turned everything around for them. Lin can be seen in both the first Nightmare film as a teacher, and would enter the franchise again as a nurse in New Nightmare. In the 90's, she began collaborating with the Farrelly brothers. Dare I say, her small part in Kingpin is probably her most memorable role. If you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about.
    The creepy song Tiptoe Through the Tulips by oddball musician Tiny Tim, is prominently featured in this film. In 1996, he suffered a heart attack while performing a live show, and died later in a Minneapolis hospital. There are plenty of clips of him playing the song here on CZcams.
    Great job, Kat!
