Duncan wrote this song while he was still a student at the Rock academy for a friend who died years ago and who had hope that her loved one would come to her before she died. Which he didn't.
The song is about hope, close but hard to reach. The Nakedness in the clip means vulnerability and the surface of the water stands for hope, love, light and the wish to reach it.

This is an opinion if you don't get it...personally besides the lyrics and voice,other than that I don't really connect with this song, especially just knowing that we have plenty of male ballads this year...personally Italy, Portugal and Iceland they all stand out for me

I hate Verka and pop divas mainly, but I also found this boring. I'm supporting Australia, Azerbaijan, Iceland and Sweden this year. I generally love ballads, but I find this year sorely lacking in quality ballads.
If you find this boring, you better not watch ESC then, because you will get disappointed when Duncan wins.
@@makkie211175 What makes you so sure he will win? I make substantial bets on Eurovision every year and I'm not putting a penny down until rehearsals start. If I was going to get in the winner at the moment I would say Sweden, but it's a very hard call this year. You have no reason to have this level of confidence in your prediction.

It has nothing to do with sexuality tho. He wrote the song about a friend of him who passed away, she hoped until the end that her ex would return, but he didn't. The surface of the water represents hope, it's close but hard to reach. He's naked cause it stands for vulnerability and rebirth after reaching the love & hope. To me it doesn't matter what you like, we're all beautiful humans born naked.
"I'm too gay to appreciate this video" sorry girl but it has nothing to do whether you're gay or not, this just means that you don't know how to appreciate art. There are so many straight guys who are struck by this song and its music video because it is just pure art.

it's interest how most of you had mixed feelings about the song, this is one of the favourites to win and i think it's deserving
I didn't see that much mixed feelings apart from Daeva not liking love songs (she liked Duncan's voice though) and Noosh dislikes most slow songs.
This is undoubtedly my no1 song this year.

Interesting, I've heard more people mention Kate Bush which is one of my alltime favourite singers. I'm really glad my country picked this song. Every time I heard it I'm getting chills.

Ladies and gentlemen this is the winner. It is a amazing song. Full of emotion. Real emotion not fabricated synthetic emotion like a lot of songs give.

Let's be honest: I was waiting for your reaction to this song. And you didn't dissapoint me. The videoclip was simple, his voice is angelical, and the melody is awesome. I'm convinced that this will be the winner. I remember of Salvador Sobral's words in 2017: "music is not foreworks, it's feeling". It's true: this one come from the heart.

I feel like alot of people don't understand the meaning behind this song or the video clip. It's far deeper and more sad than some people think it is. In my opinion this is by far the best song in this year's contest. A great voice and a wonderful production, but unfortunately I don't think it will win.
1. It is too sedate to be a typical Eurovision song.
2. Staging will be difficult for this song. The voting public are often influenced by a visual feast, which would be totally out of place for this song.
3. The Netherlands isn't part of any voting block to guarantee it some easy twelve pointers, as is the case with Eastern European countries for instance. I could see this song lead the standings after the jury vote, and then get swamped by the public vote, much like Dami Im for Australia in 2016.
