I agree. Duncan IS feeling it because he saw and felt very closely that sometimes love IS a losing game because of his close friend. She was the reason for him to write this song. He saw and felt his friends pain and her hope until the day she died. His emotion is real, not acting what he is singing about.

I had the very same reaction. When the beat kicked in it felt like I got hit by a train and immediately after tears. I am from the Netherlands, so my opinion may be coloured, but I think it's an amazing song.
I didn’t watch the contest since I was at work and I just watched the voting for fun. Then I decided to watch the winning song just out of curiosity, expecting nothing at all as usual, winning songs are quite crap usually . I got blown away and was speachless like you. I have heard this song nonstop and makes me cry almost every time I listen to it. It was a long time that I wasn’t impressed by a song like this. Just amazing and beautiful.
