- So there are these people called "winter newcomer" in Don't Starve Together. I honestly don't know why anyone joins during winter unless they are absolutely capable of dealing with the frigid environment. That's all fine to be honest, but it's not fine if they die right after and take down entire forest with them. So heck, I'll make a guide out of it, at least they'll know what to do in the future.

It's really easy to survive in spring servers summer aswell

For summer just find a quick cave and you've already survived the whole season
@@roddy_ricch9392 In summer you can easily make a parasol, sit under trees, collect resources, and start gearing up in the caves.

"If I can't find the server with winter I'll create it myself!"

Spring is worst season followed by autumn.

I would add "ITS OK TO FREEZE OR GET HURT A LITTLE TRYING TO GATHER RESOURCE"
Alot of times newbie tends to stay at spawn and scream "help help" without doing a shit to improve their situation and expect help.
Also another good advise is one you join world open map immediately, more often than not the base is marked so you dont have to keep screaming "oh god its cold, help me, fetch me pls"

I'll just throw in my two cents, the Dragonfly desert has tumbleweeds which drop both grass and twigs and are not affected by the drastic temperature change similar to grass geckos and twiggy trees.
it's the best spot actually, even way better for Willow.
it even has nice lava pools to warm you up!

I fuel my fires that way too, take a little square of turf from around it. Anyone reading this tip: just be careful when your fire is a bit higher and you pitchfork the turf beneath, it'll catch fire right away instead.

If you want a long term world just dont waste the floor as its non renewable but if it isn't go burn them like a willow main!
I believe Werebeaver only has 240 insulation. But let's see if it's immune when his rework comes

i'm canadian and argue that he should be immune to the cold all the time
at least 240 is pretty high, Wilson's full beard only gives him 135 insulation.
One thing you forgot to mention is that woodie's beard starts him off with 60 insulation points. About as much as an earmuff

Don't join a winter server
You literally can't regen health in any early game way
Don't play Wormwood if you're joining late

Wear the fun in that for having wolf doing all the work
The 6 people server dream team is:
Wickerbottom, Wormwood, Wolfgang, Warly, Wortox, and Wortox.
Basically names that start with W except Wes.
Wickerbottom and Wormwood to keep the farm healthy and food up.
Warly to place seasoning station at Bee Queen to make honey seasoning until he can make a bee farm; also gives Wolfgang boosts
Wortox to keep the team alive and farm living logs from Wormwood
Webber to farm spiders because spiders are friends
and Wolfgang to go solo on Ancient fuelweaver and every boss because he can.
Then when they get the celestial portal everyone can change to Wes and die because clearly the dream team doesn’t exist because you have no friends.
If you burn a tree down as willow, and then chop it (if you chop it before it burns) all the wood will be safe

I always love rushing rabbit earmuffs. They're very easy to make and only take a science machine
I currently have a server up that’s about at day 130ish, so we are doing pretty well. But whenever a random newcomer joins during winter/summer and asks right away “were iz baze?” I honestly know that they will not help us at all because they lack independence
I leave a box of flint and twigs at the portal for newcomers. If they can't last with that alone, they're just gonna be a waste of resources.
Or maybe they don't want to waste their time faffing about in the world during one of the most annoying seasons in the game and just wanna get to a base as soon as possible so they can actually play the game. Why would anybody in a public server waste time and resources making their own science machines and other such structures when there's a community base that already has those structures placed down? I honestly don't get why players who run public servers are so hostile to people who just joined the server, like if you're gonna be dicks to people who might 'ruin' your precious community, just make a private server.

Burn everything, or even better become a ghost and constant make them go insane
Another tip: you can easily get heat if you light a tree, catch fire, go away until the fire on you extinguishes and repeat until you start overheating (if you dont stay too long in the fire you wont lose health in the process, you can even get the charcoal to fuel your campfire at night, two charcoals are enough to keep a fire pit burning for a whole night.
I always make a little starter base and fill it with basic survival gear and some food by the door just in case someone joins my server in summer or winter.

nope... on the torch animation he kinda "swings" his arms to light things on fire. That's why you had this impression.

Here's a tip that works at least in Don't Starve. If you are being hunted down by the MacTusks, go towards the ocean. If Pengulls spawn, MacTusk may choose to shoot them, angering all of them. You might be able to get a tusk that way. I did, and it is pretty much how I beat Adventure Mode yesterday.
I love this video! I never would have tried a winter start without it. Now it seems a possible challenge.

torch makes NO difference in warmth when held...it never has.
also would recommend to catch some bunnies (for bunny-ears) when you don't have the winter hat / beef hat yet, increases time that you're able to scavenge by a bit

I had a Wes join my server during mid-winter didn't say a word and suddenly appeared at our base decked out with cane tam-o-shanter and tons of mats.

5:55 woodie as werebeaver in DST is not immune to cold, but has insulation of the same worth as beefalo hat or puffy vest. Only in DS he has immunity to cold
werebeaver does, he's not immune in either DS or DST as human form

How to help your fellow newcomer people while you are in winter:
Craft a fire pit at spawn and leave logs/charcoal or anything else used as fuel
Leave some thermal stones and/or beef hats (if you have any to spare)
Leave them there to die if they can not survive at that point

The Werebeaver isn't cold immune. It has 240 insulation for both heat and cold.

So yeah some people can join in winter and be okay! In Don't Starve if you go through Wilson's portal he wil spit you out into a new world during winter. Don't assume that all winter newcomers are looking to drain everyone else's sanity! If you find two pieces of flint soon after spawning you are good!
My first winter was terrible, the only reason I survived was because some penguin things spawned near my base so I could steal their eggs
