I know itâs not a type specialty but I always thought as gladion as a âfriendship evolutionâ specialist, he uses Crobat, lucario and silvally in almost all his battles and âthe edgy guy learning to loveâ is a big enough trope to make that work, slap on a blissey, alolan persian and a togekiss and thatâs a pretty solid team for him

Plus, Michael already made Barry a Honey Tree specialist rather than a Type specialist. So he definitely couldâve changed Gladionâs outfit to red, pink, and white, and given him a Friendship Evolutions Gym team.
I see your point. But, The Dark Type fits him, because he's had a rough past, uses a lot of dark type Pokemon, lives on the streets, is associated with an Evil Team, wears dark clothing and is an Edgelord, through and through, unlike certain others.

wally being a psychic gym leader honestly has more layers to it, since he was a sickly boy who was always hindered by his sickness, but by his sheer love and interest in pokemon, after catching one and going on an adventure on his own, grows greatly and even overcomes his own sickness.
and psychic types are strong against poison because its said a strong enough mind can overcome any physical barrier.
all of this is to say, wally had very strong power of will himself.
but if you look at the manga, he gets a Flygon and his starter is a Sceptile. I would say Dragon or Grass type
He also gets a Ralts as his Starter, which could be a good baseline for what he'd specialize in

I think for Hugh, an interesting option would be Dark Type. He spends much of the game hunting Team Plasma in an attempt to retrieve his sister's stolen Purrloin, later found to a Liepard. I think it would have been cool for him to base his gym team off that, since it's more plot relevant than anything.

It's interesting that you made Tierno a water type specialist from Crawdaunt alone, considering he is kind of a water type specialist in the anime with three of his five known team members; Blastoise, Ludicolo and Politoed, are water types. He actually has kind of a rain team, even one of his non-water types Raichu using the rain for Thunder.

It seems like M&J, like many, treats the anime and games as being part of the same Multiverse but not in the same timelines of events as the games. So using the anime isn't referred to unless a team needs a filler member(s).

17:27 Unless Shauna's Goodra transitioned from male to female between her Route 19 battle and the Battle Maison becoming available, that's two Goodra, not one. Same conclusion (she has more dragon-type Pokemon than Pokemon of any other type), different premise.
Also, the Route 19 Goodra is illegal. Sliggoo's supposed to evolve at level 50, but Shauna's Route 19 Goodra is level 49. This is of course even more fodder for making her a dragon trainer, since dragon trainers have a proud tradition of having illegal, under-leveled pseudo-legends.

I actually really liked the idea behind the honey tree theme! I think it would be cool if there were more gyms with themes rather then types. Like âsoundâ and stuff.
I think you would enjoy Pokemon Uranium then (apart from the first and fifth gym leader), they have themes like the beach, theater, night and day, etc.

I know she isnât really a rival, but it would be cool if Lillie was included, either as a fairy type specialist like in the games, or an ice type one (since there is no ice focused trainer in the region).
As a fairy type kahuna, from the her in-game teams she could have Clefable, Ribombee, and Comfey, while from her anime teams she could have Alolan Ninetails and Magearna (feels weird to give her a mystic/legendary, but sheâs already heavily associated with one; Cosmog; and itâs base stat total is 600 and in the pseudo legendary range). Rounding out her team could be a Mega-Altaria, as Altaria is her Ultra Guardian ride PokĂ©mon, and the mega form grants it the fairy type.
If she were an ice type kahuna, a possible team could be:

23:36 Side note. By completing the crown Tundra DLC, Klara & Avery use both Galarian Slowking and Galarian Slowbro at the same time in the Galarian Star Tournament. I personally would either swap Salazzle & Indeedee for Galarian Slowking, or swap Slowbro for Slowking on Avery's team because I think Galarian Slowking fits Avery's aesthetic more than Klara's. Furthermore, Avery sends out Slowking last in all battles after The Crown Tundra, while Klara send's out Slowbro last. Making this decision even more viable.
I maybe would have made Brendan a water trainer, due to the weather theme in the generation.
Wailord, Pelipper, Ludicolo, Castform (to stay consistent with May's)... maybe Huntail? Then either Swampert to stay in line with the Blaziken, or Relicanth or something else.

I'd imagine this version of Barry as an "unofficial" Gym Leader like the Master of the Fighting Dojo. Maybe he'd give you the choice of a faster-acting honey vs one that has a higher chance of calling rare Pokemon.

Like, maybe Silver could have been a trade evolution specialist, in reference to the fact he has Alakazam and Gengar (and uses Kingdra in other media), and is in fact known as the exchanger in the manga,
I think itâs ironic that Barry, who is always rushing with little patience, is a specialist in a mechanic that takes a pain-staking amount of time on a good day.

Arvenâs ace is Mabosstiff so he would be a Dark gym leader.

Penny is too committed to her Eevee theme so she would be an Eeveelution specialist.
As a refresher, her team is Umbreon, Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Leafeon and Sylveon.
Carmineâs ace is Sinistcha and she has a Leavanny, so she would be a Grass gym leader.
Her team would be Sinistcha, Leavanny, Scovillain, Arboliva, Brambleghast and Toedscruel
Kieranâs ace is a Fighting tera type Hydrapple and he has a Poliwrath, so he would be a Fighting gym leader.
His team would be Hydrapple, Poliwrath, Incineroar, Paldean Tauros, Annihilape and Flamigo. Incineroar isnât a Fightinng type, but it looks enough like one that I think itâs fine.
I think incineroar is okay because the other bb elite four members utilise a pokemon not of their specialty.

Tierno is a missed opportunity, he shouldâve been done like Barry. Where he specializes on a theme rather than type, so like give him dancing PokĂ©mon such as Hitmontop, Maractus, or Ludicolo who heâs already got.

About the rivals becoming evil team leaders
May/Brendan for example their team wouldn't make a whole lot of sense for either Magma or Aqua as they have parts of both
Same thing applies to Barry as team galactic leader since Cyrus has a lot of dark types
As for gym leaders becoming rivals
They wouldn't necessarily have to specialize in one type like Bede or Marnie but have a more diverse team like Blue
I think that would be fun for saying what their organization would be about
I've heard Giovanni was supposed to be Flying-type, so Blue's Flying team feels better in my eyes. Besides, Alakazam is already Sabrina's ace.

It was actually the gym that was supposed to be Flying type.
People that datamined the leaked Green betas found a now scrapped kid character that used the same pose as Giovanni, which probably meant that he idolised the Rocket Boss and tried to act like him; he was the Viridian Gym Leader initially, with 2 low level Flying pokemon. This and the fact that Brock had an additional Diglett in his team clearly indicates that the kid was originally planned as the first leader to beat with Brock being the second.
When they then scrapped the kid and put Giovanni in his place, not only his Silph Co encounter included a Scyther but the Gym team was entirely made of fully evolved Flying types, so Gamefreak was very likely planning to save the original type theme of the gym while shifting Giovanni's teams to include more Flying types, then scrapped the thing together with the original Cinnabar Gym Leader Katsura and the evil Silph plot.
I think that Barry could have also been an electric type specialist because his personality is that heâs always on the move, he runs everywhere, and I imagine him to talk fast. Also his hair is yellow like an electric type
Barry being a honey tree specialist is oddly fitting.
I can picture him running around frantically, slathering honey everywhere, checking trees and threatening to fine the Pokémon if they don't show up fast enough.

Silver being a Poison-type trainer is a really solid decision! It also indirectly references his relationship to Team Rocket and its boss, since Team Rocket members usually use Poison-types and since Giovanni uses both Nidos on multiple occasions.

I think you shouldâve made Hau a Psychic-type kahuna, since thereâs already an Electric trial with Sophocles and thereâs nothing for Psychic in Alola, applying the same logic that you used with Brendan.
His Psychic team would be A-Raichu, Espeon (as a nod to his other Eeveelutions and because thereâs a gift Eevee egg), Oranguru, Hula Oricorio (both Alola PokĂ©mon I can see Hau using), Slowking and Bruxish (the best fits for Hau out of USUMâs remaining psychics)
Actually, Faba is a Psychic-Type trainer. He is just neither a captain, nor a Kahuna, if that's what you were getting at.

While we're on a roll with this "if every" series, I have a suggestion for another: What if every regional professor was the champion? There's precedent for this with Kukui, Sycamore, and the beta Oak battle, so I think it would be an interesting video.
