The fact that Pokémon hasn’t made an experience where you could be a gym leader is just millions of dollars waiting to be made.
1000% agree. Mikey actually played a fan made game recently where you get to be a gym leader and you pick which type you wanna have and it looks like so much fun. I would love an official game like that. Plus unlike the other Pokémon games I feel like it has way more replayability because you can just play it over and over again, but picking all the different types which will obviously change the difficulty around certain fights within the game based on what type it is you’re fighting and what type you picked.

This run reminds me of my heartbreak when I learned that I couldn't actually become the fairy type gym leader. I thought it'd be super-cool if your champion had the option to decide to become the fairy type gym leader and it allowed for some post-game content. The first non-linear pokemon ending... but alas, no such luck.

Personally, I hate Fairy-types, but I thought for just a second they would let us become a gym leader and select a different type. Unfortunately, my favoured type is finally used for a gym in the one game I thought we had a choice in.

You inspired me to try the same thing on Emerald, but I decided to replace the water Gym Leader. My team was as follows:
1) Swampert (obviously)
2) Ludicolo
3) Pelipper
4) Walrein
5) Tentacruel
6) Starmie
I guess I could have gone for Gyarados, but I'm not as big of a fan before the physical/special split, and I thought it would be cool to have a team of all dual types which didn't overlap (ground, grass, flying, ice, poison and psychic respectively).
Alternate title: Mikey obliterates every non grass pokemon with the power of PHOTOSYNTHESIS
I love that Mikey doesn't treat these playthroughs like challenges and embraces the fact that PLANTS. He actually loves the plant types.

These videos inspired me to play through Emerald again as a Ground type specialist since after Giovanni in Gen I you don’t get another gym leader or elite 4 member in Ground type until Gen IV. Really loving it so far! Plus I Giovanni is my favorite gym leader so he’s pretty much my role model for this play through 😅

Haven't even finished the video and I love this all so much. I am ALL for theme plays and Pokemon lets you do it so well. I remember as kids we'd pretend to be Gym Leaders as we played Red/Blue/Yellow. Most got bored and none of us were good at keeping to theme. lol Might just have to do this myself sometime soon, definitely need to watch more of these videos.
It's interesting how Kyogre and Groudon are always fighting each other, yet neither of them pay attention to the fact that they're _both_ weak to Grass-Types. In fact, both their weathers benefit Grass-Types.

This reminded me of when I decided to try being a Ground-type specialist in Omega Ruby. My final team was Claydol, Flygon, Camerupt, Donphan, Graveler, and (Mega) Swampert, though I don't remember using Mega Evolution too much
