Thank you for posting your experience with Progesterone, and HRT treatment in general. I am just about to start Progesterone and had a number of questions for the medical team about it, but it is always good to hear from a trans woman who has gone through it. Glad it is going well for you Pamela!
Interesting. Ive been on E and Spiro for over a year. And my doctor call in some Progesterone a small dose, to see how I get on. Curious to see if I get anymore breast growth
Does your doctor keep you on the same amount all month? In girls it’s only a short time of the month that progesterone acts rises. Might be worth looking into for health reasons
Synthetic Progestins have the bad reputation, Natural bio-identical Progesterone has no known health risks. Even the Endo's don't often differentiate between the two completely different compounds.
Another side effect of Progesterone is, that your head sometimes starts spinning, like you are drunk. ^_^ At least it is something I experience from time to time.
There's a reason for this. Progesterone is metabolized into allopregnanolone which slows the rate of recovery of the GABAA receptor from desensitization and possibly increases the rate of entry into fast desensitized states. Alcohol enhances GABAA receptor function to cause anesthesia, sedation, hypnosis and anxiolysis. There are definitely similarities.
How did you find a doctor who would prescribe estrogen & progesterone since you are a smoker? None of the doctors in my area of NC will prescribe either one until I stop smoking for at least 6 months.
no! you don't need to block testosterone since only a small amount will be produced by your adrenal glands (same as a cis woman) One of the perks of being post-op is lowering your estrogen dose and getting off an AA
The adrenal glands will still produce testosterone in a post op transsexual, and adding spironolactone may help reduce any effects that testosterone may bring by blocking it from binding to androgen receptors to some degree.
You can. Many cis males do this and swear it helps them have a more calm personality that helps a lot with social anxieties, and other issues they may be experiencing. It likely will not have too much of a feminizing effect on its own. It will potentially shrink the prostate gland some, may cause gynecomastia, and a variety of other symptoms. If you want it as a part of an MTF hormone therapy regimen, it should in my opinion be coupled with estradiol without question; as these two hormones go very well together. Most endocrinologists like to wait at least 6 months to a year before adding progesterone into the mix.

Thanks for this great info! It's hard to find first hand comments about progesterone it seems, especially with good things to say.

Me too.
Same here... I got the 'spins' when I started Estradiol and Spironolactone. It makes my eyes go all wonky.

Apparently nicotine injestion cancels the effects of Estradiol...
I just told my girlfriend to add progesterone to her HRT regimen, she's already on estrogen and spirolactone
I am post op, do you recommend a post op mtf to take spironolactone?
kekoa kawawa no you don't need it if you're post op

Can i take Progesterone without taking estrogen first?
