    Totally agree with him being taken in small doses. But even if it is a small doses, he could play a part in either a major quest line or DLC. No matter what I want him to remain mysterious, just casually dropping little hints that he is indeed something to be feared by all

    Gaunter reminds me of Lovecraft stories, and I think it would be cool if we could get a DLC with him and other beings like him using the main character as a pawn in some way. But if they do that, then they should give as little information about his peers as little information as possible.

  • @uIfsark

    Gaunter at the very least needs his own quest. Maybe we could learn a bit more about who (or what) he is. And we definitely need to see more of his cool tricks!

    I would like him to appear first in references they go from unnoticeable to more apparent and then slowly increasing his presence until we meet him again and have to deal with him. I would would be happy with an expansion about him. Just a quest would feel like a cameo and he deserves more, I think

    I like Gaunter O'Dimm, but I don't think he should return as a major character. The mystery surrounding him is a big appeal. Despite not knowing what he is or why he acts, we already learned, that he's someone who makes faustian bargains. If he appears again and we don't learn anything new, it would be very boring, but if we learn more, it would subtract from Gaunter as a character.
    I would be fine with stories, where he doesn't appear in person, like the one with cursed lady/spotted wight in Toussaint.

  • @VInceent
    @VInceent Před rokem

    In my opinion I think that a quest (not a too long one though) would be the best way to involve the character once more. And for me, it does not matter if we actually meet him during the quest or only see his deeds because even a quest like the ine in B&W expansion was very cool. The key point of Gaunter O'Dimm is, like you said the misteries surrounding the character so even if we can't see him, we will know. And that will be enough to keep building the character.

  • @greenflame070
    @greenflame070 Před rokem

    I don’t want a quest with him directly involved. I think something like his involvement in Blood & Wine would be better.
    For example, our character comes across an NPC that entered into “a bargain with someone” but that “someone” (O’Dimm) asked for something a normal human could never acquire. But a Witcher could do it. So we acquire said item, give it to the NPC, and the cutscene ends with them walking to a crossroads with O’Dimm standing there, recognizable, but in shadow. But once the cutscene ends the NPC is alone

    Nice take. Obviously (for me), I would want the creativity and talent on par with those that gave us Gaunter in W3 to head new stories. Bringing back a great character is not a guarantee their comeback would be good. In that sense I am indifferent - let them bring him back IF they know how to properly, and if it's better than other ideas on the table, of which I'm sure there's a lot.

    I did like Gaunter O'Dimm as an antagonist in Hearts of Stone, appearing a little at different moments. If they put him once in a contract, such as lifting a curse cast by him, then him appearing at the end that would be awesome

  • @allesauflageroderwas4040

    if the games take place in a time were there were a lot of witchers it would be cool to hear some of them talk about Gaunter O'Dimm in the background while at their castle for Winter.

  • @TheAstrobiologistOW
    @TheAstrobiologistOW Před 9 měsíci

    He should ABSOLUTELY return, but I agree that he's most effective in small dosages. Him being a character that is referenced here and there is perfect, but he should only show up when it has the most impact. I wouldn't be against him occasionally showing up in the background of a cutscene, nor would I even be against quests involving him, as long as those occasions are for maximum effect. The Gwent game makes it clear that when O'Dimm is curious to see the results of something, he doesn't do it in a small way. The Gwent game gives the perfect example of him indirectly contributing to the cause of the Nilfgaardian wars and the birth of Ciri.
    Another example it gives is O'Dimm being responsible in part for Alvin becoming Jacques de Aldersberg, and since we know that a Witcher 1 remake is coming I would be VERY surprised if he isn't at least mentioned or alluded to at some point in that game.

    Unless its super plot relevant I dont think he should appear in person at all in future games. But an odd mention of a "Mirror Merchant" or a strange quest/area that implies he could have been involved. Like how it was described in Blood and Wine the beggar "broke his spoon" before cursing her. Maybe even some texts or something that mention a "Master Mirror" in some kind of ritual sight where things clearly went horribly wrong.

  • @niofo7713
    @niofo7713 Před rokem

    i'd like for gaunter to keep showing up as a cameo or mention across future games, to show that he is really part of this world and important influence, kinda similar to the strange man in rdr (as in, he appeared in actual missions in the first rdr, and in rdr2 there were easter eggs regarding him, but no actual quests). i think it would help flesh out the world and its lore/mythology even more, to show that gaunter wasn't just invented for the purpose of this one expansion and that's it. i'd like maybe not even missions, but perhaps some cameos of him, similar to how we had it in white orchard - maybe we're playing as another witcher in one of the next game and we have to ask questions, with gaunter providing answers in an "accidental". and we as a player would immediately notice who this is and have alarm bells going of in our heads - perhaps the new witcher could feel that something is wrong too. i really like this idea of messing with time and gaunter mentioning meeting geralt in some veiled way. but he seems to be able to read future anyway? like if geralt asks him about ciri, so in the past he might know he'll encounter geralt, but maybe not how it'd end? (otherwise he wouldn't put himself in the situation where he is banished)

    I'm also a bit in the middle. I really love the character so I do want to see more of O'dimm, maybe in a quest in a future instalment.
    On the other hand, as you've said, the mysterious nature of the character (the best part btw) would be ruined if he's overused.
    A delicate balancing act to be sure!

    • @RangerGeorge
      @RangerGeorge  Před rokem

      It's really important not to overuse characters like him, it creates a kind of legend or mystery around him. It's part of the reason I don't really want Geralt to appear in a future witcher game, I want Geralt to become a legend, it would be hard for fans to think about his story and his impact as a legend within the universe if he's constantly popping up for fan service. A mention is of course great, but too many appearances can dilute how special the first three games (and books) are.

    More stuff like the Marlena questline would be great. Times when you see the aftermath of his curses and pacts and work to undo it. Possibly could have him scold the main character for undoing his work, but I think having him fully reappear again for another questline wouldn't be good.

    There's 2 ways he could be done well. One is to play a very small part in a single quest much like you said. The other is to be a big part in a whole game as a lambert style character but only hint at the fact he has powers

    this is creepy as fuck, playing the game again & i finished hearts of stone in my playthrough literally about an hour prior to watching this
    I'd love to see the prick again lol, i think what fascinated me the most was when geralt presses him to tell him what he is in the alchemy inn at oxenfurt he flat out refuses, and i quote-
    "No Geralt, this time i shall spare you. Anyone who has gleaned my true nature has died or suffered a fate far worse." (Something like that anyway)
    if they did do a longish quest, which i would be okay with, it would be so awesome tracing people from past and present who knew / know what gaunter is, and it would be a cool way for the new character to gain gaunters attention and where it goes from there, the possibilities are boundless.
    Of course i don't specifically want to know what gaunter is, but i think the idea of our new character, in a few instances, almost finding out, coming tantalisingly close to finding out the big mystery, but being blue balled every time, would be awesome haha. A good way to give us some slivers of information as food for thought without spoiling anything.

    Haven't watched the video yet, but I am gonna declare: Probably as my answer. (Will edit in a more thorough response after the video.)
    Edit:
    I agree I would not want him to be a main villain, at least not in the very next game. Maybe hint at him for one, or two game, then introduce him in full focus again. Would potentially be interested in seeing a Witcher finally bring him down permanently. Killing the ultimate monster, the one that walks around looking like a human. As always though execution matters, and very often when you explain a mysterious character, you ruin them.

    I want new MC sold his soul to a Gaunter. Slowly MC realise what Gaunter really is. The wish will play on irony. Player with time losing friends, family, money, love interest and in the end the only thing left it's his soul. Master Miror can show up again in the end. I just want feel his presence wherever I go. True horror and desperation. Only have bad and worse options in a game. NPC realise we bringing only trouble and death with us. Maybe the only thing what can save us from Devil it's a Law of surprise. Ofcourse it's a main plot. Like White Frost. I want in game all other plots going on.

    Eh although he was a fun interesting character I don't really think he fits in the world of the books.
    In the books there is no truly unkillable monster even the Higher Vampires.
    Vs the games where there is O'Dimm saying he will be back eventually and the Higher Vampires who the game devs claim can return eventually from just ashes.
    Its fine to bring back O'Dimm or another demon but allow them to die to remain consistent with the books.
    Although I question how he could even fit within the context of the conjunction of the spheres.

      Likely not anyone that we are familiar with because CDPR clearly wants to break away from the source material and do their own thing.
      That has always been an issue which is why the games are set after the books.
      If you've seen stuff about the next game it has the school of the Lynx a completely new Witcher school, apparently created by Lambert.
      So the next game will probably be 20~ years later and playing as someone trained by Lambert.
