Everyone said “scooter is nice he’s not a bully and I’ve known him for years” just because he’s nice to you doesn’t mean he’s nice to Taylor, nobody knows how rude he’s been to her
Dr. Periwinkle it’s not bullying if it’s the truth. She’s trying to show people what can happen when signing deals with the wrong people and sharing her story. Her experiences. That isn’t bullying. What he did was bullying, posting ignorant posts about her online and attacking her with his friends to her face
Dr. Periwinkle Taylor is extremely famous enough and no longer needs publicity stunts at this point though. Of course he’d say otherwise. Who would want to admit they’re using her life’s work as a ransom just to profit more from her? And what would Taylor gain from making it all up? She’s a songwriter herself and it’s ridiculous to make up stories about her craft - one that she painstakingly honed for years - just to what, gain additional album sales? She has every right to call someone out especially when they’re taking away her rights to own her life’s work. It’s crazy to tie someone down to 12 more years and have her own one album for every new one she puts out.
Taylor isn’t that dumb. Lying about these things will only result in a hot legal mess. It’ll also cost her her credibility as an artist. And she clearly knows what she’s fighting for. I am not a huge fan of hers but if an artist is treated that way, it’s terribly unfair. The harsh reality is that the music industry is way darker than it seems.

Dr. Periwinkle Nobody’s asking you to feel sorry for Taylor. She doesn’t need your sympathy either. And Taylor said it herself, she’s speaking out so starry-eyed newbies in the industry would learn to be cautious when making choices career-wise. Many newcomers can be very vulnerable and everyone knows how ruthless execs and producers can be. This is more than just mere publicity and album sales, it’s gaining rights to her discography which was a result of her hard work. Nobody has the right to take that away from any artist or worse, suck them dry just to use them for money gain. It’s incredibly low and yes, Taylor or anybody in the industry has every right to speak for themselves.
Dr. Periwinkle It’s her life’s work too though and you can’t blame her for fighting for it. Every artist has every right to own it. And sometimes, there can be loopholes to contracts - something that artists especially during their humble beginnings aren’t necessarily aware about. So now, artists can’t speak up just because they’re already successful and multi-millionaires? That’s just sick. Of course it’s understandable her fans will take her side. It’s only normal. But it’s sad how they aren’t allowed to make themselves heard for something they’re passionate about. In this case, it could be bigger than her and for all we know, there are many more artists silently struggling with the same dilemma too and aren’t exactly as fortunate as Taylor who has a platform to be heard.

The master recordings are actually the work of the record label. They did all of the work involved in recording her. All she had to do was sing, which she probably does in the shower at home anyway. She can go buy a copy of her album like the rest of us.

Do they ask to buy the original sandwich? Making and owning master recordings is how record labels make most of their money and avoid going bankrupt. They heavily invest in new artists and sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn't. The artists don't have to pay a cent. They just have to show up and sing their best. School Teachers and Nurses should earn more. Artists get enough from the royalties that they agreed to in their contract. They don't need to be offered to buy back the master recordings. Those belong to the label who spent all the money on them as an investment (that could have gone south).

I honestly don’t think any Musical Artist would pass up the option to own music they have created. And I know Taylor definitely wouldn’t. It’s her music. It’s her art that she’s spent years on and worked her ass off. No one should have the right to own an artist music except for that artist.
That's not how it works. If you sign a deal giving rights to your music to someone else then you do not own that music. She could have been an independent artist if owning her music was her top priority but instead money was her top priority.
Most artists write songs for them to be heard. And I think we can all agree that independent artists don't get the exposure that mainstream artists get. That's not the point though. She was told she could earn back her albums by producing more, which is basically tying her down. It's more morally wrong than anything because of the process, how the events transpired, and how she found out. I think some people just don't like taylor, so they don't care. But it doesn't make it any less wrong, imo.

Record Labels invest all of their money into making the master recordings, so they should get the largest percentage of the profits. Its their investment that makes the recordings possible.

You don’t have to be a bully to have bullied someone. If you don’t think someone’s actions were bullying, then try to defend the actual actions. Reminds me of when Khloe Kardashian posted a picture of some random woman’s private parts hanging out of a bikini saying it was Chloë Grace Moretz and people called it out as bullying and her defence was that she’s not a bully.
