Twister was a a favorite of mine when I was 9. Now ? I find it to be pretty stupid but I see an interesting film that could have been made. Hunt's obsession could have reached Herzogian levels of brilliance, man's turbulent relationship with nature.
Twister was a great time at the movies. I disagree with Siskel & Ebert on this one. It was the effects and crazy characters that made that film work. Also it was really funny. Overall a film that I can still watch after 10 years, which I’m about to do, I guarantee you I’ll be smiling at the end.
i have never understood why "Twister" was such a big deal. i live in Oklahoma, they filmed it here so i remember locally everyone was making a huge deal "WOW! they are filming an actual big Hollywood film here!!!". but i never understood why it was such a big film or interested other people so much, and of course living here in Oklahoma it really wasnt even that big of a deal to me because in the summer here it seems like big tornadoes happen every single week and footage of them running through small towns is standard fare on local news and weather. i mean you almost take them for granted, they are just sort of part of daily life to some extent here. the other thing ive never got is the film advertising campaign sort of heavily promoted that Twister was a slang term we used here in Oklahoma for Tornadoes, i swear to you i NEVER heard one single person use the term Twister for a tornado my entire life growing up here through the whole 70s and 80s until after that film came out. i had never heard the term Twister until they came here to film that movie, now i hear people use the term in an almost like cool kid way, like they have discovered the secret word that people in the know use, it sort of makes me cringe anytime i hear someone use the term. i honestly dont think i have ever genuinely liked a single film with Johnny Depp in it, its long long past the point that when i would see his name in a film i basically instantly lose interest. all his weird ass characters he likes to play and the weird films he likes to do. i did watch "Dead Man" years ago though because i am actually a fan of Gary Farmer he played one of my all time favorite characters once. all i remember is that i could not get into it to save my life, not to mention my annoyance at the gimmick of making black and white films in this day and age. i was so uncaptivated by the film i completely do not even remember the great Robert Mitchum being in it. and i actually really like a few of Jim Jarmusch;s films.

Twister is actually being remade. The director of Top Gun Maverick is attached to direct it. (EDIT: The director of Top Gun: Maverick isn't directing it, and it's now a sequel to "Twister" called "Twisters", with Helen Hunt returning. Apparently, her and the Bill Paxton character (RIP Bill) have a daughter who becomes a storm chaser too. Not at all interested in this.)
Twister is just another chapter in the saga of Good Meteorology vs. Evil Meteorology. A struggle as old as mankind itself.

Twister is and always will be a great guilty pleasure. Even though the FX are dated now, it brings back that 90s charm.

Twister was the first date movie I ever went on. I found Helen Hunt's character so annoying because she was always putting herself in harm's way.
