this feels like when two best friends in school are asked to do a presentation together and aren't taking it seriously, and i love it so much. "Maybe lichess would be better" lmao
Born so close, continents apart, and ending up before this board together, both being the main opponents of the best player (one accepted and one rejected), it' s no coincidence but a lovely case of synchronicity
3:56 - 4:25 it is good to see how 2 GM dive deep in the position for 7-8 moves and they both "stopped after Kh6", which was a winning move :) 8:15 - amazing how they remember their game from 2013! :)
I think it was 2015? He said it was in Greece and the 2013 one was in UAE. I was there both times and played in the same category. I remember seeing them both in Greece (also Sarin Nihal, etc.), but cannot remember much about the one in 2013. Anyway, fun times!
This is fascinating. They have surprisingly good chemistry. Also, that's a good answer to those who think Niemann can't analyse his games. Not only did he massively screw up his win, but he's capable of explaining everything he played.
To anyone saying that he could analyse his games thanks to the eval bar: 1. He didn't just talk about first lines, he said which moves he missed, he said where his calculations ended, he mentioned lines which he thought about but the engine doesn't suggest, and talked about opening lines at the beginning 2. Watch the live commentary, they have the engine too and they aren't remotely as good at analysing the game as he is (and David Howell is a 2650 GM, so no joke either) 3. He spat lines to fast to catch up with the engine at some point 4. Firouzja has the engine as well. If Hans was incapable of analysing his games, then he should still be doing worse than Firouzja in the interview, which he's not. This just doesn't hold. The engine isn't explaining everything
@@FlagerMiszcz lol nope. He was always like that long before the past year, constant attitude and facade. The easiest example is his most famous quote "chess speaks for himself" which was an incredibly poserish moment. We've hardly seen anything of him since the accusations a year ago, before that is when he earned his reputation as arrogant and fake (adopting the accent etc), it's amazing you fanboys don't seem to get what an obnoxious guy he always was, and latch on to the accusations as though that's why he has a bad rep
I don't think he can get over 2700 with this tournament. He's currently 2670 live rated. There are 6 games remaining, so assuming he plays opponents whose ratings average his he'd need to win all of the remaining games to get to 2700. That's so unlikely that we can call it impossible. Even assuming that he plays opponents who are slightly higher rated than him, then he'd need to go 5.5/6 for the remaining games. Still impossible to be honest.
@@stateofmontanapal.2506 maybe. I don't know when his next event will be but with how much he plays we will probably know very shortly after this one. Honestly I hope his does well. I don't have particular feelings towards him, but I love to see the older generation being challenged by the new one

I love that we get to see them analysing together. I know after most games players will analyse for a minute or two, but to hear them Hans and Alireza go over what they were thinking and how they evaluate the game together is really interesting.
The commentator usually IS A GM and is trained to pick moves that are understandable and talkable to the public so we all can enjoy the content. You probably cant even follow the free minds of these guys because there is no ground for you ( usually, the gm comentator )
Commentary's job is to bring chess to an audience who doesn't understand GM level analysis. It's important to help newer players understand top level games.
This probably can only happen in games like this, very chaotic with a draw result, cause both players are really curious to see the engine analysis. With decisive results the loser will not want to talk (few exceptions), and with calm draws no one is so invested in checking immediately with the engine.
I have really been warming up to Hans this tournament. Not only moments like this where his dry, cheeky sense of humour shines through but also just how electric his games always seem to be. His loss against Vidit all but ensures he won't finish Top 2 at Grand Swiss but I am looking forward to the day Hans Niemann is in the Candidates Tournament
