As a child and young teenager I never thought about just how much Anthony Bourdain shaped the way I view not only food, but the world, and life. I didn't grow up watching Disney or Nickelodeon. I grew up on Anthony Bourdain. His death is a deep loss and I wish I would have realized sooner just how much his philosophy matters to me

If you grew up as a kid without cable or satellite I feel like you likely have a connection to both Anthony and Andrew zimmern, they showed me the world. Anthony taught me how to be authentically cool and chic while doing it that you could have a style and art in everything you do that shines though to everyone and Andrew taught me to approach mundane things with the same interest and enthusiasm as an adventure, an often he’d turn something normal and mundane into something great, even if just for a moment

I think Bourdains true gift was communication, both in words and beyond words through body language. All of the interactions have a genuine touch to them that so few people can achieve on TV.

He's so different in these early episodes, he smiles A LOT more and has a glint in his eye like a child. By the end of Parts Unknown he always looked exhausted and agitated, you could tell the pressure from his fame and his permanent internal struggle always to be a perfectionist whilst being authentic and honest was wearing him down... I loved all his work so much and will always miss him x

It's incredible watching Tony where he started. He hadn't traveled much until this show and you can see the genuine child-like awe in his face when he's experiencing something for the first time. The later years' suave and swagger hadn't set in by these episodes but he was no less interesting back then.

This episode is where it all started. This was his first shot at a new career as a tv personality after breakout hit “kitchen confidential”. Chefs in America were not superstars, his book changed all that and this was his shot to prove to the world the hidden value of celebrity chefs. He would never work at a kitchen again once he started this show.

If you don't have strings holding you down..get yourself out of fast food and into a real restraunt..evenvif you have to start by washing dishes..live simply and learn. Maybe you don't have the luxury of being sent to a chef school but the CIA has a fantastic cookbook...can't afford it..get yourself a library card.....50 years ago I was a young wife, mother working as a prep chef, and on the line...I didn't miss it when I left because I had a garden, a dairy goat, organic fowl nearby .a kitchen I designed for actual cooking/ baking and an audience . But now ..flat on my back I miss all of the hubub....funny thing ...my daughter that I thought could care less about food now runs/ owns a small restraunt/ pub. Good luck to you ...keep learning, keep striving..,and unlike Anthony ..know this..you are enough.

This is my favorite series anthony did. Captured life right at my favorite moment in history for us. The end of the 20th century and beginning of the 21st.

I was always somewhat adventurous with food, thanks to my mother. There were a few things I just couldn't get into though, sushi being one. Then I saw this episode when it came out and decided to find a good sushi place and try again. I LOVED it! Thank you Anthony, for showing all of us that food in all its forms could be exciting, comforting and even transformative. I've taken a whole new approach to food thanks to you, and I'm better for it.
