Then pretty much trophy hunting 😂 I was surprised on how many I casually got first play. TR2 has my heart as my favorite. I have fond memories of my childhood and family. We had many other favorite games that brought us together but Tomb Raider for some reason had a special charm. I'm truly grateful 🥰💚🥰💚

I was never a fan of Natla's redesign in the first reboot era. I really like that the remaster kept the original design intact where it really looks like she put together a combat suit of spare mutant parts instead of being a mutated winged creature herself. I recommend using photo mode to get a good look at Natla in action next time you play the final level.
Same! I thought in Anniversary she looked so scary and so obviously not human, like there’s no way she could have masqueraded as a human to establish her company etc 😂 Love that they kept in the details of her attaching the mutant parts to herself 😍 I must use photo mode to have a closer look ☺️
You could have used photo mode during the battle against Natla to see clearly that she, indeed, had mutants attached to her, including the "cannon" she used to shoot Lara.

Your closing speech was very moving. It's sweet how it touched you positively, flashed you. You are so empathetic and so authentic and such a kind, loving person with so much enthusiasm and positive energy. It was so much fun and put me in a good mood watching your Let's Play. I'm really looking forward to following your other Tomb Raider videos and being part of your great growing community here. Part 2 is also my favorite Tomb Raider part from before. Next I'll probably play the DLC "Unfinished Business" first and then "Tomb Raider 2" on "Normal".
I really enjoyed the boss fight against the big mutant in the last level.
The biggest non-healing trap challenge in the game in New Game+ is this passage from a blue safe crystal at 10:40 before destroying the Scion. Then continue on to this small rock at 15:20, where the next storage crystal was waiting. After many attempts I managed it and finished it successfully
It took me a little over 2 hours to complete this level. After each failure, I got better and better and was able to significantly improve my playing skills. In the end I beat the game in New Game+ (0.5% of all players did) without using a medipack (1.9% of all players). Okay, the blue save crystals healed my life energy. Otherwise it would be virtually impossible.
I've never been happier or prouder when I finally got it. It felt so good because the challenge was so great. And I never, ever never thought I could grab New Game+. I can hardly believe it now. It was so much fun.
Natla was relatively "easy" to defeat. Only took 4 tries for her. I had used twice as much ammo in New Game Plus, 18,673 in 14,033 hits.
It was such a pleasure to play the first part twice in a row on Normal and New Game+.
Thank you so much 🥹❤️ I remember well that this final level used to take me hours playing on Playstaion with the save crystals, doing certain traps over and over again 😅 So I can’t imagine save crystals plus the enemies being harder! Congratulations on completing the game in NewGame+ 😃 That is such an amazing achievement and you should be really proud 🥳🥳🥳
Loved the playthrough, I've bought the remasters to play for the first time! I got tomb raider 3 with my ps1 when I was like 6 years old but couldn't get past the first level so most my time was being scared of Winston at croft mannor 😂 hopefully I'll be able to complete these games now haha

I'm being your resident pickup guy again! That one Uzi clips pickup you were thinking of in the corner just before the jump over to the last secret, is actually in the corner of the room where the boulder appears from the left corner and rolls down to the lava pit with the swinging blade and spikes opposite (immediately after traversing over the lava with the dart traps). I used to always miss that too 🤔 there was also another set of three Uzi clips in that bottom tunnel where you fought Natla, further up from the first lot. I'm such a nerd...
... "such a nerd" ... a supernerd! ... but helping us all 😊👍.

Also just so you know if you press L3 and R3 at the same time you enter camera mode where it freezes the image so you won't die and you can move the camera around which will make it easier for you to get a good look at and admire Natla and what ever else you want to take a better look at with out dying.

@@suzannetheraider your welcome and I'm the same when it comes to new things but this was one thing i found really good and got some funny pictures. I love the fact you can also change Lara's pose, facial expressions and weapons so you can take a screenshot of it you can also change her outfits but once your out of camera mode she goes back to normal

The pyramid looks so gross on the inside in the hd remaster with such clear detail Everywhere looks like the inside of a heart area a vein area and muscle area like the pyramid is a living being or something

I got all bummed hearing you were jumping straight to TR 2 as I love Unfinished Business, but really glad you'll be sprinkling it in with 2! They did a killer job with the atmosphere in Shadow of the Cat!
You probably know this, but the Atlantis levels in Unfinished Business are actually intended to be an extension of the ending, taking place between 28:53 and the start of the cutscene! I enjoy them, but they are a bit odd in the context of pacing as the place is shaking like mad, about to blow any second but hold on an extra hour while we explore more regions of Atlantis!
I don't think I'll be able to look at those boulders anymore without picturing giant meat balls...
I've tried to rationalise that inconsistency with Atlantean Stronghold immediately after Great Pyramid by picturing it being underground, so it's possibly not as affected by the destruction of the Scion and the imminent explosion of the pyramid and island, i.e it's a stronghold Natla built as a contingency in case of the pyramid being destroyed. Probably not what Core intended, but I'm not going to spoil my illusions...😏
@@Nightopian1982 That's actually a great reason for why its not shaking... even if its still a tad silly the imminent destruction and dramatic escape is prolonged for like... an hour for the two extra levels!

Yes I love that the Atlantis levels continue the story, but I agree, it doesn’t make much sense that the pyramid would stop exploding so Lara can destroy The Hive 🙈🙈🙈 It’s fine though, I’m fine sacrificing consistency to get more awesome Tomb Raider 😍
9:34 It wasn't a dream, you just mixed it up a bit. You can actually do it in Atlantis, before you pick up the scion (and trigger the cutscene), if you jump down here, on the right side there will be a door, that will open and lead you upstairs again. It's also an achievement to do it. But in this level the door becomes a simple texture and the passage is not there anymore.

Love that you'll be capturing from PS2 ---- so many gameplay uploads are using emulation these days, it's hard to know how games used to really look.
@@charoleawood Yeah, I've been trying to record some PS1/2 Gameplays for a while now but for some odd reason the screen is a little dark, I just wasted 15 Euros on an adapter that was supposed to upscale the video a little but the problem is: the video is too dark with Tomb Raider II on PS1, luckily I still have the AV2HDMI adapter with an extra RCA cable. I just recorded a test with Gran Turismo 2 played and recorded directly from PS2, I'm Uploading it right now, I really don't like to play Games on emulators, it takes forever to setup everything up (at least for me).

I just watched your GT2 test video, it still seems somewhat dark and I think the RCA is making it low contrast and smudgy.
Still, something like this could work if you wanted to label your videos "real hardware" or "direct PS2 capture" or whatnot.
Or, you could point a camera at a CRT, show us the process of putting a disc into a PS1 and then playing it for those authentic old school vibes --- there's a channel called "Joe's Retro World" and that's how he does it (though he still uses emulation, so we're missing that pop-the-disc-in bootup experience).

I will try to change the Settings on the elgato and try to change the video quality a little bit, a few months ago I tried to use the PSX Emulator without any luck so I gave up and decided to record those Gameplays directly from the PS2 itself.
Last Summer I paid 99 Euros on a capture device called "elgato video capture", it has good quality but I have a buzzing sound and I don't know how to remove it (the only way I found is to remove the audio completely and the Gameplay will be muted).
I was playing Natla's Mines and got crushed by a rolling boulder earlier.
In same said level I bit it in a river of boiling lava.
Natla's Mines is first run for me.

They fixed the broken secret. Oh yeah they actually covered this on Raider cast but yeah Natla's wings in this aren't hers. She's just attached mutant wings to herself. It just looks like she has wings.
Yay! Broken secret finally fixed 😍 Oh that’s cool thank you! It’s nice to have it confirmed. It makes sense. Too bad they didn’t explain that in the game. I was always so confused as a child where Natla got those wings from 😂
What an amazing ending is crafted here. I actually remembered this level as an equally long as Atlantis as the combination of Torso, the appearence, the amount of traps and the amount of times I died made this level feel really steep. I also thanked to cross with only 3 atlanteans yet, in a future no-medipack run it's going to be hard not to loose HP on those traps, especially that mandatory fall at the Scion.
The fight agains Torso feels so much friendlier now with the HP bar. Back in the original I remember loosing my mind when running around it with the uzzie and not knowing when it would die. I do like though it's new look as now the details on its face are muche easier to understand and those bonie fingers are just gruesome. I can't avoid comparing it to it's TRA counterpart where I think both games did a reaaly neat job at different aspects. TR1 perfectly personifies the claustrophobia in this little platform with 3 open ledges and the feeling that Torso is always over Lara whereas in TRA the darker ambience with the phenomenal track by TBF induces madness of that ralentless Torso always chasing Lara.
The showdown against Natla has also been pretty well done in both games in my opinion and I love that in both instalments she has makes a very clever use of distance. In TRA she moved from corner to corner very fast making impossible to chase her and here she always closes distance with Lara making her impossible to dodge the fireballs.
Only one achievement managed to dodge you (well, two if we count dying at least once from Torso and Natla).
- Kill Natla using only Magnums.
I used to think this level was so long too when I was a kid! To be fair, we were playing with save crystals back then, so this level did take so long to complete, as when you died you had to go back and redo the whole section 😫💔
I also loved the addition of the life bar for the torso as this is one enemy where it’s nice to know when he’ll die 😂 If you don’t know it can feel like you’re fighting him forever and you’ll never ever kill him. He’s a tough one 🙈

They appear to have fixed a secrets bug that appeared in the original game whereupon you could only get two out of three secrets, either 1 and 3 or 1 and 2 iirc.
I also got motion sickness with some games, I don't think I got it with Tomb Raider and of course it would have been the quakes at the end if anything, and talking of quakes it was first person shooters Quake and Doom that did for me, because of the 'bobbing' walk.
So Natla's dead ... OR IS SHE? Quite ironic that we're skipping Unfinished Business because it feels as though we've been playing that all along ... thanks to Aspyr ... haha . Now onto Venice and then to skidoo in Tibetan Foothills ... play that tune ... boom boom boom 😎.

Sorry to hear you also get motion sickness 🤒 oh goodness I cannot deal with any games where the camera bobs or shakes along with a character’s movement 😅 I would actually have to stop playing. I also can’t watch anything “found footage” style. I remember once I watched 10 minutes of the movie Cloverfield and had to turn it off and go to bed I was so unwell 😂
Haha as Lara says, Natla just doesn’t know when to die 😂 Don’t worry, we’ll finish that Unfinished Business soon 😎 But for now, the streets of Venice beckon 😍
That final secret is the one that wasn't counted on the PSX/Saturn versions of the game. It's pleasing they fixed it, but infuriating that they stuck ANOTHER pickup bug in the game on Atlantis. Oh well, hopefully a patch will sort it.
I've started UB on the remaster, but I haven't returned yet because I've been playing TR2. It's awesome! Oh, that start to the game is unforgettable, and so different to this one.
I'm on 40 Fathoms but I'm just going back to Great Wall to try another swan dive achievement. It's quite a random one I'd never have thought of attempting all those years ago. I can foresee myself splatting on the rocks a few times though. Not ideal for someone with vertigo, like me. I'm just glad it's not as photo-realistic as the new games. I actually felt ill watching a TR 2013 video yesterday with Lara climbing that rather precarious looking ladder to a transmitter 🫣

@@dealyboy Yeah that's right, the crane dive. It takes place on a section I had no idea you could reach. I can't imagine any human having the cajones to dive into a small space like that from such a great height. Sod that.
I've already been snacked on by the shark in the Jade Dragon area with the barracudas last night. I panicked for some reason (probably because I'm terrified of them) at the sight of it and lost my bearings. Thankfully the first couple never get me because I can remember where to swim at the beginning of the level 😌 I'm quite glad I'm nearing the end of the sea levels, personally. I've always gone weird with water levels on games. Because it goes murky and your movements slow down, I get lost and tend to drown. It's strange because I'm actually a really good swimmer in real life.
@@Nightopian1982 That's really interesting Ben ... you, Suzanne and I all have phobias/anxieties that would make you think that we are not at all suited to be Tomb Raider players.
For my part I have a fear of water in real life but have no problems with water levels. I get motion sickness in video games, like Suzanne, but not in real life. I have a sense of direction issue in real life such that I often take wrong turns in unfamiliar areas (so bad that I have to do dummy runs) and it also applies in games where there are lots of interconnected tunnels or passages such as in Natla's Mines.
There are probably more people like us than we think. Maybe we get a special sense of achievement.
How was Venice? and how does it compare? one of my all time favourites.

I finally finished Tomb Raider this evening for the first time, I was never good enough to finish it on PS1, the new save system is a god send. Your playthrough was the perfect compliment to my own playthrough especially when I got a bit stuck lol.

Ye I completely agree and it makes sense that Natla isn’t a mutant. If Atlanteans were part mutant, Tihocan and Qualopec wouldn’t have been so appalled at Natla creating the mutants ☺️
9:55 you might remember doing it from the level Atlantis as at the end before you grab the Scion you can jump to the platform and a door opens up on the side

there was a way for you to go back up but that was if you did it in the last Level Atlantis. Since you defeated the torso boss and opened the main door there is no need for the game to give you a shortcut. The Shortcut is only there to prevent people in the previous Level from softlocking themselves.

TR II is my favourite of the series as well. It was actually the first one I played. I didn’t play TR I until early 1999 after I’d played TR III.
There is something so fantastic about all the locations and the story of TR2 😍 It seems it was a lot of people’s first game in the franchise! ☺️

I just managed a few backflip summer saults on the mobile version of this. That was nuts but awesome.
Nice quick and easy way to beat torso guy with laras pistols only (or adam he was originally called by the Japanese fan base) is hang of the ledge when he comes towards you and climb back up and shoot shoot shoot when he retreats 😊

I've been playing through the remasters myself (about half way through TR2 now) but trying to keep up with your videos as well. Just finished getting through this one and its been another very enjoyable Let's Play. I wanted to get onto TR2 as well immediately after TR1 so I know how you feel. Maybe you could try doing an Unfinished Business level after each segment in TR2? One after Venice levels, one after Maria Doria levels etc. Just to give more of a structure to the UB levels dropping into TR2. Only a suggestion of course, happy to see you play them in any order you desire.
I like your theory of Natla surgically grafting the wings and gun to her body. Gives her a bit more of a mad scientist vibe in this one as opposed to a more magical creature in the Legend timeline. Think the mad scientist idea works well with just how hammy and insane the other villains were in this game (looking at you Skater Boy). It seems that villains got a bit more serious as the TR games continued, but the original three definitely had some wacky characters!
In terms of extra effects in the remasters, it might be my imagination but I swear in the remastered version they've made some of the sounds like footsteps echo more in certain areas. I also noticed they added a drip effect to Lara when you get out of the water like in TR4. It's nice to see just little improvements like that on top of the higher detail models and textures.
I'm definitely flicking back and forth between the two versions a lot as well, I just want to see what something was meant to look like. So many times I look back to the original and think "Oh yeah I see what they were going for now". The lighting is a bit odd at times, it seems to be brighter in some places and darker in others in the remasters. I have seen something about the Epic version being slightly different to the Steam version. I think the Epic version was meant to be a more recent build of the game, but apparently there's a new patch coming out soon for Steam so not to worry.
Enjoy these remasters and take all the time you need to sit and stare at the new graphics. A lot of people (including myself) did not think we were getting these until it was announced out of the blue. I've seen a few complaints/controversies around these remasters and to be honest I think they're all just nonsense/nothing to really get worked up about. Honestly I think the things you've brought up throughout the game (whilst very small) are actually some of the most reasonable critiques I've heard. And its all really minor stuff that could be sorted in a patch. Really these games have been done so well and its because they literally got a load of people from the community who were massive fans of the original games to work on this. I had high hopes for these remasters and they somehow managed to add a load of features to make it an even better experience than I was expecting.
Something I thought they could have done was get in contact with a guy called Dean Kopri who does a load of fan made Tomb Raider music and his stuff is absolutely brilliant. He even got hired to do some work on Tomb Raider: Reloaded so I'm surprised he wasn't involved in this! Ah well, maybe there will be a future opportunity.
Looking forward to TR2, it gets even better with all the new items and enemies!

Yes I love the idea of Natla as a mad scientist, not only experimenting with creating mutants but also experimenting on herself! I love how over the top Tomb Raider villains were in the 90s 😂 I noticed that some of the sounds seem to have been enhanced too! There is an echo and beautiful wind sounds and other things in the game that I don’t believe were there before ☺️
I think these remasters are Wonderful 😍 A small few issues as you said with graphics not being visible enough and lighting, but they are all so easily fixed with patches and I’m just so happy that these remasters happened, and also that they were clearly made with so much love and passion 😍 Dean Kopri would have been fab to have work on this remaster too 🥰
I made it halfway through Unfinished Business before the call of Tomb Raider II became too strong and I started it, haha. Really looking forward to that, it's my favourite game too. Great playthrough, loved your infectious enthusiasm throughout!
If you start using photo mode, it's worth using it to explore the levels - not sure how you'd do it on a controller, but using WASD and mouse (basically modern controls) in photo mode lets you basically float around the entire level (whatever's unlocked, at least), which is SO much fun. You can see all the untriggered enemies and everything.

It’s more to do with speeding up the tedious things like pulling out rocks or shimming across ledges. Once you adjust to it, it’s kinda hard to go back to normal speed lol

But didn't Qualopec in the intro fmv (and also his tomb) have some weird bone wing/ arm/ leg things? unless it was just his costume and I am confused.
Also since the remasters have photomode (press the two sticks at the same time) you can always enter that and zoon as close as you want to whatever your heart desires and examine it. You can also switch between old and new graphics while in photomode ☺

Hi, Suzanne. Can you imagine playing this using a 3D headset. I think some people would be sick after 30 minutes to an hour playing the game.
Is there a setting to turn off screen shake? Seems like an important accessibility option that should be there.

@@suzannetheraider Most likely it's riffing on the fact that in the Bible, Adam was the name of the first man. The abomination is the first of Natla's 'new breed' (and Adam in Buffy was the first of Professor Walsh's hybrid race).
