  • Jury selection begins Monday in the trial of Michael Drejka.
Drejka is charged with manslaughter for shooting and killing Markeis McGlockton on July 19, 2018.
The case is expected to draw national interest.
    --
BACKGROUND: Britany Jacobs was parked in a handicap spot with her 3-year-old and 4-month-old while her boyfriend and their 5-year-old son went into the Circle A Food Store on Sunset Point Road that afternoon in Clearwater, Fla.
Michael Drejka, a regular customer at the convenience store, confronted Jacobs for being parked in a reserved spot. She claims he began yelling and telling her to move her car.
“He wanted somebody to be angry at," Jacobs told Good Morning America. "He just wanted someone to fight him."
At that point, Markeis McGlockton and the couple's 5-year-old son walked back outside, and McGlockton noticed the ongoing confrontation. McGlockton walked over and shoved Drejka to the ground. According to Jacobs, he told Drejka to back away from her. Seconds later, Drejka pulled out a pistol and shot McGlockton once in the chest.
McGlockton collapsed in front of his 5-year-old. He died at the hospital.
In an interview with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, Drejka claimed McGlockton was stepping toward him when Drejka fired the gun. But, according to autopsy and investigative documents obtained by 10News, McGlockton was backing up and turning away at the time he was shot.

you are right, just because a person is confronting you or your wife , but not putting thier hands on you or on your wife, does not give anyone the right to put thier hands on another person, Mr. Mcglockton did commit a felony by pushing Mr. Drejka down like he did, but the threat did stop once Mr. Drejka pull his firearm, he just should not have pulled the trigger, but if Mr. Mcglockton kept coming at him, thats when Mr. Drejka should have said, STOP, DO NOT MOVE and then if Mr. Mcglockton still came at Mr. Drejka then he had the right to shot him,. but if did not have time to tell him to stop and do not move because of the threat, this would have been seen on the video, as it was Mr. Drejka did say he saw Mr. Mcglockton taking a step towards him, while Mr. Drejka was sitting or laying on the ground and was a bit daze from the push to the ground. now i will also add, Mr. Mcglockton was not retreating until after he got shot, he was standing there in such a stance acting like a bulldog, protecting its owner, ok normally this would have been a good thing, but at times it is a wrong thing to do, if Mr. Mvglockton had turn and walk back towards the store door, he may still be alive today !!

      @robertortiz8540 Před 2 lety +5

@@jamesrockon9340, I would like to take a stab at explaining this to you. Markeis McGlockton shouldn't have assaulted Michael Drejka especially since it was nothing more than a verbal argument between Drejka and Jacob. However, McGlockton must have believed that there were not going to be any consequences behind his actions.
The "Stand Your Ground Law" in Florida can be interpreted in different ways, and when the jury reviewed the entire video they discovered a discrepancy that wasn't consistent with Michael Drejka's statement to the authorities, and when Markeis McGlockton shoved Drejka to the ground Drejka pointed his gun at McGlockton and that's when McGlockton decided to give up, but Drejka used deadly force and shot McGlockton because it's not like McGlockton kept whaling on Drejka while he's on the ground.
While Michael Drejka took a concealed carry class, he was only trained on how to use a weapon for his defense. He wasn't trained to enforce parking violations or moving violations in parking lots. In addition, Drejka has a history of paper trail with the Police Department, and some jurors who oppose concealed carry will view this as a pattern of bad behavior that he isn't a responsible concealed carry holder.
All of the instructors in the CCW class emphasize to their students that as a responsible concealed carry holder only carry your weapon on you for your protection and use it reasonably. Avoid any conflict at all costs because once you start getting involved in street situations like a cop you're NOT protected by any civil liability and you do not have the same immunity as a sworn police officer.
As a result, the courts decided to make an example of Michael Drejka and find him guilty since Drejka acted in a way that was inconsistent with his CCW training and the courts are sending a clear message to all other concealed carry holders that such behavior will NO longer be tolerated, so James you have to look at the whole totality of the circumstances.

What if said individual walked into the deli and got in you mothers, sisters, girls face? Would you put yourself between them or stand aside, acting like a coward, pleading for him to move away from your loved one? In that same scenario this look could still pull out his gun, claiming you're threatening him. I have no problem with protecting oneself, but the threat backed away and he paused for some time before he pulled the trigger, without the man going towards him. That shows the perceived threat was neutralized and he made a conscious thought out of hatred to pull the trigger, which will be his downfall. The same goes for in your home. You can beat the intruder or kill him in the act, but if you get him to get on the ground until the cops arrive, but then decide to shoot him for the he'll of it, it will be considered murder if the cops find out.

People like you make me sick. Why "black man"? You've gone completely away from the reason this happened. People like you create racial hatred.

To be fair, the victim who was shot did not help himself by walking extremely fast towards the suspect without knowing exactly what was going on before violently shoving the guy down to the ground. That did not help the matter in any way. With that being said, the suspect should have waited to see if his life was actually in danger before grabbing for a gun. It's a no win situation.

She's been facing threats from day one and you can't be there to do anything. Oh lawd! We all know what you do about perceived threats. Good for everyone that you're in the slammer while your wife is being "threatened".

Ironic that he is so worried about his wife and his dogs, when the man he shot was trying to protect his wife and children. His victim’s wife has no husband and now his wife has no husband too. There is a bit of justice in that.
