You just saved my life stranded in a walmart parking lot because my terminal snapped in half lol
Listen! My cadillac is stranded now in a walmart parking lot for connective issues. I have a top and side post battery. I had someone replace the negative side to top but hey did not do the positive. The side connection is iffy. Can i get electrocuted for changing my positive cable to a top post adapter if i do this without the battery?
I swear to god I was stranded in a Walmart parking lot as well 🤣🤣 my terminal snapped too🤣
@@kaigepalmer4223 best place to be stranded to be honest. You could fix your car AND eat a meal.
Just happen to me
Greetings my fellow 'stranded-at-Walmart' dudes! =p
You just gave this 50 year old lady the confidence to do this. Great video!
I just had my car not start and was able to get to a store and buy the needed parts. This video made it all happen. I had a loose negative battery terminal and replaced both since I was going to replace one terminal. Just finished and my jeep turned over and sounded incredible more responsive and I fell the jeep is now getting the juice it needs. This channel is so helpful. Thank you all for the effort and time, it's making my life so much easier. Just to note. It cost about 10 bucks to get the parts I needed. Talk about savings. Keep it up, guys!
People who make “How To” videos......”you the real MVP!”👏🏼
For real it should be a class taught in every school. 1 hr of how to videos
Thank you so much for recording and posting this! Good camera angle, swift and quick on the remove/replace, and really like the Red/Black posts! Thank you because now I need to do this on my 2008 Honda CRV - I just bought it pre-owned, and the guy helped at AutoZone by bending a penny to allow the clamp to tightent, as it was loose and so stretched out. Saves me $30-$65 at the Garage by DIY.
Thanks, Tim--just replaced the terminal on my car after watching your clip. Had a lot of corrosion, though, so I used a spray-on battery cleaner that cleared out the acid residue. Motor cranked over like new when I was done! Piece of cake.
thank you , I 'm sure I can't get a man to fix ..lol..I'm 61 and a lady but with your simple instructions I'm sure I can do..
thx again

Sondra Todd there are some men that still dont learn how to do this bet you can learn faster than me
Just use safety glasses and gloves and u ready to go.
Also, wrap some electrical tape around the battery posts
@@ivansorola1997 I'm one of those men >.
Please be safe Sondra.
Thanks a lot dude I needed a guide how to replace battery terminals for the first time. I saw your video and did exactly what you did, I did a little cleaning around the terminals and it worked like a charm. Thank you!! Got a like as well.. 👍🏻
Good video man! I had the same issue with my 07 JK with my original terminals. Although I didn't replace the terminals, this video gave me the confidence to clean them with baking soda/hot water, remove the cables from the terminals and cut the old ends, reattach to the terminals. The Jeep starts and works like a charm now. I think runs better than ever. If I ever need to replace the terminals, I know I can do it now. Thanks dude!
Getting ready to change terminals on a 1999 B3000, it's a one-owner and I've had it since it was new and they've never been changed. This video and information was super helpful and very well presented! Thanks so much.
The wrench is usually 1/2 inch. I work for AAA, and I see these replacement all the time, so here is my input on this kind of battery terminal replacements so that they last for the life of the battery. First off, the terminals are coated/painted. That needs to be wire brushed off, or filed off where the cables have contact with the terminal. "Resistance". Another tip, that flat plate has indentations, if your cables are small, take that plate off and flip it around, it will be a tighter fit. Also if your using dielectric grease, use it on the under side of that plate too, it tends to rust. Personally, i use the anti corrosion felt washers that go around the battery posts. Also, dielectric grease is a non conductive silicone grease. NON CONDUCTIVE, do not put it on wires or electrical connections. its is meant to seal out moisture on spark plug boots, and light bulb sockets. If you do use it, just spareingly, as in vidio.
So how do the sparks get to my spark plugs with all of that dielectric grease I put on them that came from the manufacturer with the new plug wires?
"This jeeps gonna run so good I won't know what to do with my self" I hate that I have to say that every 3 months lol
Shawn Palmer HA-HA! Some of us addicts say it every month over a number of Jeeps!
😂😆👍🏽
Is it a liberty?
bruh same i’ve put over a grand into my jeep and it still needs work 😡
So funny cause my girl has a newer jeep with a ton of issues, her mom's older one is like 50 years old and still kickin'. I guess they stopped makin' them to last.
Actually I also replaced a transmission sensor as well. It’s the first time I’ve had to be my own DIY work. This video made my day. You didn’t need to start the car at the end. I started it and it worked. I knew this was the problem because my terminal was cracked. I would go and pick my son up from school and all of a sudden the car didn’t start. This was the solution.
NO WAY! hahaha i just got a new battery and i was contemplating buying new connections but i didn't know what to buy. then i sat down and check for a new bleeping jeep video and it is the perfect one!
Very helpful! I had a screw lodged in my negative terminal for a while as a temporary fix. Thanks for the tutorial.
good clean job with the right tools. Just one thing you might want to suggest is the fact that sometimes the corrosion can go down the wiring. stripping back some of the wiring insulation and looking for that corrosion dust is a good idea. with new terminals and corrosion in the wiring you'll still have the same problem. I had to learn the hard way. thanks for posting the vid.
Thank you! Looking at this project in the dark while standing in the driveway was intimidating. I am now confident that I can make this repair.
He didn't even start the car after he replaced them , damn cliff hanger
Probably it car still didn't crank. Battery must be dead too. LOL
Waht if the car exploded, maybe those terminals were hacked 😂😂
For real! I was looking for a result before I started considering cutting any wires on my truck haha!
This is a video on how to replace the connections. I hope this is my problem >
I said thatttttt
We were having the exact same battery issue. We brought some shims to expand the Battery post, but this is more like what we want. Thank you for sharing and easing some anxiety with another DIY project.
Thank you so much! Watched this video, went to the store & got everything needed & did the job in an hour! She starts right up! 👍🏼
Such an easy video to follow. Thank you for making it short & to the point, other videos I've watched have way to much BS added to it.
Great video. One thing I did on my XJ was get some HD ring terminals from Napa and use vice grips to crimp them on to the wires. I heat shrinked the terminal lug (ring connector) to complete the process. I then ran the the bolts for the terminal through the ring connector and tightened it down.
Future terminal changes are going to be 10 times easier.
Your video depicted EXACTLY what happened to me this morning. My Jeep Wrangler; Big Foot Edition is a '98 and still has its original battery terminals. As a recent widow, all of the house and vehicle maintenance is now my sole and frightening re$pon$ibility.
I want you to know that your CZcams video has given me the confidence to know that I will be able to change-out the terminals myself and save money by not relying on paying needless mechanic charges (plus tow).
Thank you so, SO much! I'm very grateful and am now a new fan of yours!
barrett & barrett much safer though to take the battery out of the car while working on the connection wires, also never ever put metal objects between the positive and negative posts of the battery, eye protection and rubber
gloves...safety first....always !
Thank you so much for this very detailed simple instruction. I hate this man shitt that I have to take care of now since my husband passed away. Guys like you are wonderful! Keep up the good work!
Thank you for sharing this and showing how to replace a battery terminal. I was going to buy a cable lug crimping tool but now I see that isn't required. I'm replacing the positive terminal on a JD tractor. Good job!
Thank you so much I ran into this problem today and was thinking on taking it to the shop to have them replace them but now I know how to do it myself and save me some money 😎 you’re awesome!!!!
Great video! Only thing I'd add is that it is generally a good idea to use a wire brush to clean off the bsttery posts and wires
Thank you sir, first time doing this and you are the only video out of many that answered all 3 major questions i had.
Just wanted too let you know i Did this Terminal Upgrade to my WJ 2001 Jeep and it worked out very well! I didnt have any Terminal problems i just wanted my engine too look better lol. But thanks for the Video/Info couldn't have done it without ya!
Thank you for this video. I was hesitant to do this myself until I watched the video & now after about 2 hours the truck is up & running!
Your doing a slam'n service, very thorough and great at giving visual and verbal tutorial.... keep em' coming.
I did this to my WJ 2001 jeep grand cherokee. stock terminals before , just looked like crap. I did exactly what he did in this video and it came out perfect!!! I am doing this too all of my buddies Jeeps lol! thanks bleepin Jeep keep it up!!
I’ve been having a bad connection for at least a month, my mechanic wanted to charge me to do this simple thing,... it took me about 20 minutes start to finish just from watching the video thanks man !
Oh he actually wanted to charge you for his own labor? What a terrible guy
@@daveywarren9504 i think he meant the mechanic charged too much for a simple thing.
I had exactly the same issue with my TJ and yesterday did exactly the same repair but used military style terminals. Im running 4 2/0 gauge wires off each terminal for all of the grounds and fuse box connections. Might be a cool video to make to show the big 3 upgrade and the alternate style of terminal.
Thank you. because of your simple explanation and video, i was able to fix my cars terminals. I juuuust bought a $200+ battery few weeks ago , and still was dead. turns out one of the terminals were cracked, so this video came up on replace. 10$ fix and a hour and it was done,. Thanks broskillet. A+
Thanks for the video. Great timing as I ordered some new terminals just the other day. Now I can use some of that dielectric grease that's been sitting around since I changed the spark plugs.
WOW I’m been trying figure out what’s wrong with my car for a week now . I think you’ve finally helped me figure out the problem .
Thank you so much for this! I don't have a Jeep (2012 KIA Soul) but I think this video finally answers the question I had about what to do when there are 2 cables going to the one terminal connector! Every other how-to I've found only showed what to do with a single cable. I've been trying to figure out if it's ok to just stick both of them into the same spot on a new terminal connector but I was worried that it was a bad idea. So happy to learn that it's not a big deal! Thank you again.
Glad it helped!
This is a great video, but... don't use these terminals! I got these same ones (after seeing this video) and the cables have already corroded. Get the military battery terminals and either crimp or solder ring terminals onto your cables. That, along with heatshrink, should last you a lifetime!
Awesome video. I got super worried when my terminal cracked in half. Great job explaining how easy it is.
same here
Was looking to see if the car started, but that got left out. Myself, I would have removed all other metal tools away from the negative terminal except for the one in use, just in case I slipped and started a little arcing.
Now I can tackle my once intimidating, next project.
Let’s pray you don’t do it this way!
@@ajbrown2013 How do you do it?
Thanks bro, I appreciate the video... the terminal I'm looking at is the original factory setup with a plate that multiple Wires are connected to
My 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee wasn't starting unless we hooked jumper cables directly to the wires. I didn't have new terminals, but this video helped me remove them and losen up the corrosion on the wires. Starts right up now. Thanks for the vid!
I’ve changed my battery and starter. This video was my story. Surprisingly, it only cost me $3. 5 mechanics looked at my car. Some even said it’s my transmission. Great video
Thank you so much I've been tapping on my terminals to get my Jeep to start the terminals are bad , they've been cleaned and scraped everything except changed...now I'm stuck at home waiting for someone to help me get these changed and this video made me more confident that I can do this myself, um does anyone have tools I can borrow? NO? Well I guess I'm still waiting on someone to come help me with the tool situation now...lol
I'm going to try this your way. It looks like the clearest tutorial video I'm going to find. I think I have to temporarily remove my radio fuse before I can disconnect my battery. It has one of those satellite radio systems.
Thank you so much! Still to this day you're taking the fear out of working on your own vehicle. Much appreciated!
You did a great job explaining every step clearly and details. I knew for the lost pet and have seen them changed, but i needed a refresher. I’m in this position right now. However, do you know if I take the one of my Honda to replace the broken piece. Also, if it’s only one terminal connector should I change just one not both.
fine job! glad i watched. cause i was fretting, crimping on new terminals, i guess i would have found the bolt ones on when i went to the store, but, now im restin easy and know its gonna be easy to do thanks. and dont take the video down and try again like was suggested below, fine job, u can only please some of the people some of the time..
Great video. I'm installing a sound system in my 98 and I was wanting to make sure the clamp style will work since it's hard to find something (especially local) that's says it's designed to work with two 6 gauge wires AND bolt down a connector for the amp. I found a terminal locally that's the clamp style with two studs on it as well. I intend to eventually replace all the wiring but that day isn't here yet.
Wow! this was a really great video and fully explained the process in layman's terms! Keep up the great work, young man.
Experiencing this with my wife’s car, you just saved me a bunch of money, thanks!
Once i was replacing my terminals and accidentally touched both terminals with the wrench, that wrench flew of like a plane luckily i had gloves on 😂
J.Gomez metal note, thanx
And that's why I dont wanna do it myself haha bloody hell
@@ljthepoet Just wrap some electrical tape around battery posts when you take the terminals off
@@kristupasantanavicius9093 thankyou
@Jacob T. Tape it after removing the clamp, lol.
Excellent video & to the point. Thank you. Great communication skills.
hi.i replaced my battery terminals about a year ago.also i replaced the battery + lead to the starter motor only a couple of days ago..as it was in very poor condition and quite corroded.i think a job well done.good video..thanks.
Doing my first change out and this is such a helpful tutorial. I need to get some tools lol
Thanks - out of all the videos, this one explained everything the best. Now I've got to get to work.
Thank you for your help. It worked out real well on my car. You saved me few handstands of Dollars.
thanks for being so thorough for us newbies.
thank you for this vid!! I am having the same problem as you with my jeep not starting some times and my terminals look identical to your old ones. I am going to attempt to do this by myself.... I am a newbie to all this stuff... wish me luck...lol
Thank you for the video I’m going to replace the battery terminals shortly I had no idea what I was doing up until now thanks man!
why is everyone complaining.did anyone say thanks for the helpful video.he took the time out to help people out the best way he no how.just doing it his way
Great video, man. I’m about to replace mine and this video was exactly what I was looking for. Cheers 🍻
thanks so much! was wondering just last night the best way to do this!
Thank you! I just had to trickle charge my battery today, through that process I realized that my positive terminal is loose (I can turn it side to side by hand) no matter how tight I tightened the nut. I'm gonna get a new terminal tomorrow. Thank you!! You made it alot less intimidating to do myself.
I'm guessing you've already worked out a solution to the issue of the terminal being too loose no matter how you tighten it, but if anyone else comes across this issue, they sell lead battery post covers (they resemble thimbles) that you simply place over the post and tighten the terminal over that.
@@danieljackson1272 They are called terminal post shims. Much better than cut off a lead connector melted on the cable.
@@danieljackson1272 will it work if your terminal post is broke?
Thank you,
This is super easy to do even for women. I changed mine in about an hour.
Ive been boosting my jeep for about a week or so. Going to try this before actually changing the alternator. Or the battery thanks
Good video, obvious fix that just wasn’t crossing my mind. Area is being flooded and I needed to get the diesel truck terminal fixed so I could tow my rv out if needed.
Made me nervous with your wrenches though. I’ve seen people cross terminals and have half the terminal melt and blow up in their face.
My 96Xj has needed this for a few years. Just cleaned and tightened up last weekend again.... maybe it is time to fix it. Thanks for the Kick in the Butt to do it.
Thank you. Ive been having the same issue all day, ill try to do this tomorrow:) big thanks
Thanks for this video, realy appreciate the way you explain the hole job to do, simple and clear explaination... thanks again!
THANKS I DID IT ON MY JEEP AND IT WORKS BETTER THEN EVER TOOK ABOUT 20 MINUTES TO DO...
Thanks I just had to help my cousin with this! Your video really helped
Thanks for making this, didnt realise it was so simple 😊
I did this but replaced them with military style terminals with the big bolt going through, awesome upgrade
Seem to be very helpful advice - Thank You. I will wait for warmer weather to replace mine though. Just in case cuz it's cold out there.
You made this look very simple, thank you!
Great video. I just purchased some generic ones also to replace on my older little supermarket car, lol. The connectors seem a tad large though. Do you suggest I can place a new screw in order to make it more snug?
Good presentation, well done and thank you. Very helpful.
that grease is intended to prevent moisture getting into the crevasses of the connections. moisture causes corrosion. u fill the tiny gaps with the grease and it will not corrode
Sears used to sell a very nice battery connector gel that made a good seal over the wires, post and terminal. it was like a very thick oil when you applied it but settled into something more like a non hardening silicon. It kept the corrosion from reforming, kept water and air out and was actually not to hard to remove. A lawn mower tech showed it to me and said it was the best stuff for keeping the connections in good working condition he had ever found.
Thank you so much for this like so much your cool personality and video quality helped me better understand what I need to do!
hayyy. this video was perfect. i watched this video it today went right out and changed my terminals to my 2011 in like 20 minutes.. thanks

This is exactly what’s going on with mine you give me the confidence to cut the wire myself thank you 🙏🏽 so much I’m sure this will work!

Thank you for the information. Very easy to see and understand.
Can't thank you enough for the super video! Just gimped my '03 Pilot home after a quick battery recharge by my boi AAA! Now it's dead in the garage (as expected) and I'm off to get new connectors and that funky "diabolical" grease. LOL. You've empowered me to get my girlie paws dirty and tackle this fix with my "alternative lifestyle pliers". Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Hopefully, your wise Yodaesque car expertise vid tutorial will save me some big bucks and this will be an easy fix. Be well. Blonde power!
I am having the same exact issue with my Jeep, just got it as my first car too. About to replace the terminals today
Thanks man. I need to replace these in my wife’s car. I really appreciate the tutorial.
great simple video, helped me out, thank you for this.
Thanks man, this helped me change the battery terminals on my truck
Good video changed my mother In laws terminal her van idles better and run better than it used to
did this on my 2004 jeep grand cherokee, worked perfectly. thank you
I've done this repair on many vehicles. The one difference in how I do it is to nix the dielectric grease on the wire so I can put Liquid Electrical Tape on any exposed copper. Especially on an off-road vehicle, this will help prevent premature corrosion on the exposed wire. Also, after cutting the circle around the wire, I make a slice down the cut piece to peal it off without pliers.
I love that liquid elec tape !!!!!
Just wanted to know the type of tool that was used to crimp the wires, the one's you mentioned in the video that is great to have? Thanks
