  • A RadioShack RC Hobby Grade Conversion to 3S LiPo. This was also neat to take apart because it had an ancient style steering motor. This 2-Speed even does great in low gear at high rpms.

    I did the same thing for my Turbo Hopper, the servo for the gear changer & the steering servo too.😊

      Great to hear you succeeded! I want to swap the motor with a brushless one, which i have, but I think if I pull the wheel off it won't retain the same grip on the driveshaft needed for the new power....

    Hi, it's a shame you sped up all the parts that I want to know more about 😂... a voiceover or tutorial would be really helpful for someone starting out like me.

      I'll be going back over some of the same cars in future videos for clarifications. I see now the topic is picking up and these details are important. Stay tuned. I'm going to keep a rhythm of videos for 2024.

    Are you using the original controller or a different one

    • @backtothetrackgarage8790
      @backtothetrackgarage8790  Před 2 lety +1

      No not the original. A Flysky FS-GT2B 3-Channel Transmitter. Other than the drive motor, all electronics were swapped out.

      @@backtothetrackgarage8790 did you have to replace the servo at the front, would the ancient kit not work if you attached to the ESC?

    • @backtothetrackgarage8790
      @backtothetrackgarage8790  Před rokem

      @@_RandomPea That's a great question, it should still work on an esc, however you'll still have that "Full Left, Full Right" effect vs Porportional Precision Steering with a servo. Brushed ESC of course. It's only a 2 pole coil vs the traditional 3 pole coil brushless motors currently have. So don't try a brushless esc.. It only has 2 wires, and idk how well both will handle the heat.. I havn't tested that.

    Awesome build! I’m going to hobby grade my Nikko Enforcer. How is your build working so far? Does it handle 3s Lipo or should I run 2s Lipo?

      Thanks! My favorite part is shifting gears by remote! Much easier to navigate through grass or dirt too.
      When I mod a car, I usually go by the total voltage coming from the original battery. As simple as I can put it...
      4 AA batteries = 6V and can handle 2S Max (Overpowered! +1.5v!) 5 Batts = 7.5v so 2s for sure (Same Power) and SOME cases 3s but WATCH your motor TEMPERATURE (Super Overpowered! CAUTION! Its +4V!) Anything above 6 AA batteries = a 9V system and can usually always handle 3S, no problem @ +2v. Using 2S on these is a downgrade. Plus these 9v and above units can handle Brushless motors better. Brushless setups will be my next test this year. My Radio Shack cars all have "rolling over @ high speed" issues. Meaning I'll have to lower the center of gravity of those cars by lowering/cutting the suspension and or lowering the exterior upper frame/body to keep it from doing so. I find that many older and larger units are better in general overall, they just need an upgrade. 😁

      I think my Nikko Enforcer uses a 9.6V NIMH battery. So, I should be able to run 3s lipo right? What C-rating? 50c?

    • @backtothetrackgarage8790
      @backtothetrackgarage8790  Před rokem +1

      @@daidan_708 Really you can use any rating above 30c. The larger ones are usually for the much bigger (draining) racing type motors, especially brushless. It's the "mah" or Amps you want to worry about. I use 2 750mahs (1400mah). My 1/10th scale Rustler has a 4000mah that lasts about 30 mins. For that scale I would find something totalling 2000 at a minimum. You'll enjoy a 3-4000Mah setup, minimum @ best for 20 min run times.

      Sounds good! Thank you once again! I have a 3s 50c 2200mAh.

    Hi there. I bought one of these cars recently. Unfortunately the gears in the car were stripped. Do you know of modern parts to fix this car? Also can you list all the parts you used including websites where you got the parts at. Thanks

      2 things for this issue i have too. I'm working on acquiring a 3d printer that can print "high stress gear" quality parts. At the same time I want to order a set of various gears to try various ratios and results. Hopefully providing a cheap alternative if you can't obtain a 3d printer. For 2024 I'll have a better season of videos to showcase for this.
