Cyrus is a Fox, Osvald is a Wolf.
I like how Advanced Magic changes the spells, both visually and even the names.
All jobs are getting refined rather than reworked, seems like the devs don't want to have skills that become obsolete by endgame, and the Scholar changes really exemplify this.
I’m actually kinda disappointed by that.
Old stuff becoming obsolete is a sign of advancement. You can no longer rely on your old skills to get you through. You have to pick up new ones.
Getting rid of that ironically makes everything feel less important rather than more.
@@pn2294 I can see that. But the problem with games like Octopath Traveler is that obsolete skills stay in your skill list available in combat, so they become clutter, inferior options that you have to willingly ignore all the time. I'm much more okay with obsolete options that you can remove from your active skillset and replace by superior ones.

@@pn2294 The problem with Scholar in OT1 was that it became obsolete in a way no other class did. Sure Warmaster had more weapon options and higher attack than Warrior, but Warrior still had things like Abide and Incite which served a purpose. Scholar and Sorcerer had no utility skills whatsoever, their entire kit was about blasting - and Sorcerer had the same skills as Scholar, just more elements, more hits and more damage. That meant that Cyrus ended up being anchored to a class that was completely dead in the water once Sorcerer was unlocked, which in a game all about class diversity and job combos, felt really bad.
The scholar is most useful with Temenos. Elemental barrage and his latent power can melt through a boss's shield opening them up for the team. It also really benefits from the Cleric's massive sp pool and the mystical staff ability. I picked Temenos first so it was cool to see how well it all worked out
Within the demo, Advanced Magic also boosts Temenos's Luminescence spell (it turns into "Radiance") to be a 2 hit. It also boosts his AoE heal. It does not boost any of the single target elemental hits on Merchant/Apothecary/Hunter/Dancer/Cleric/Thief.
super interesting ability worth trying on every class to see what abilities can be boosted
@@purplatypus7405Though a spoiler, there are a couple of other spells you can "acquire" much later in the game that are also effected by Advanced Magic.
This sch is pretty balanced and is much more unique which makes me happy
Okay that's good they changed things. When I saw the combat I was afraid it would be the same and I would just be playing another octo with just different stories . I think combat is bigger for me than story but of course I would like a good story too lol

Great analysis. I’m quite torn between Osvald and Hikari, as I already played the scholar in the first game, and would like to mix it up, but Osvald seems rather cool

Gut do I Unterstand correctly That the buff is lasting 2 turns without boost, so utilizing double damage wouldn‘t be as accessible Right? I Cyrus and Osvald differ in consistency in breaking enemies sind damage Output in the end Right?
Simply capture a golem in cave, it outshines scholars' spells...
Cyrus Vs. Osvald would be an epic battle nonetheless 1vs1 I would love to see
Osvald also gets a DIO (in JP voice) as final boss ... wich is also a buff.
Elemental Barricade is great to defeat the Caits!
Osvald is my main, and he can currently murder anything. I've given him quite a bit of equipment that increases his SP so I can just spam magic with him.
Put him as a Cleric if you want SP recovery in battle, Mystical Staff recovers SP per usage like SP thief from OT1, also the Vigorous Victor (Apothecary) support skill means you can wipe simple enemies and never be wanting for SP EVER. Osvald is built for wiping enemy groups.

The new divine skill is basically a super advanced magic, turning your next 3 (I think) spells into the octopath 1 Sorcerer spells. Seems likely that if Sorcerer makes it into the the game it'll be heavily reworked as a result
Thanks for the info. I think I am going to avoid adding the divine skill knowledge in videos until post release as it feels a bit spoilery for the demo only players
With Starlord's and Sorcerer's advanced skills being reworked into latent powers, I assume that the advanced classes are completely new. Especially since the one new class we know of, Inventor, is also completely new. I hope we'll get more than 4 this time, those classes were so much fun.

Problem with latent powers is I can’t stack them like before. When you had max bp and you set up an ultimate ability that lasted for several turns and you could then stack them with other ultimate abilities it had more depth than it feels like it does now.
Divine abilities still exist though, and we also have EX abilities now.
True but the divine skill for cleric got butchered. In octopath 1 it just repeated your action a second time. This meant you could stack a 3 hit spell from Cyrus giving him 6 hits total. With proper setup this could 1 shot most bosses. In octopath 2 the max you can do is a 3 hit true magic with peacock strut. Don’t get me wrong it’s much easier to setup but it’s not as satisfying.
Yes! That changes are amazing, the fact that you don't need to set up an ultimate to make single target like Cyrus is HUGE!
I'm hoping if we get an Octopath III, we get a female Scholar, a male Dancer and a male Hunter.
But will I like him more as a character? :/
It would be impossible not to imo.
I like his sprite more than crappy cyrus 😂
