    Great tutorial for my specific problem.
    All my other internet searches talked simply about fixing squeaks by replacing pads and rotors. Knowing this was not my issue and that the sound was a creak, this video nailed it. Thanks!

    This has been driving me NUTS! I did brake jobs on both of my cars as I have done in the past, everything went smoothly. One car is great, no problems. My Altima has been making this sound when coming to a stop, and it's just gotten worse. No other videos on CZcams talk about how to rectify this issue. I cleaned everything with brake clean, cleaned all the slide pins again and regreased them, I resat the hardware for the brake pads after cleaning rust off the bracket again. And I added a washer that I noticed was missing from the caliper mount. Everything I did fixed my issue. Thank God, I was going nuts! Thank you so much for the pointers!!

      @@TheBudgetMindedMotorist absolutely! You’re video is the only one that perfectly identifies the sound I was hearing and lo and behold, it was my brake pads getting caught up on dirt and grime after I applied the brakes and then snapping/slamming back into the caliper after I released the brakes. Everyone else said it was a suspension issue lol

    Old content is good content! This helped me understand exactly what my issue was and what to do to fix it on my old 1992 Toyota Celica GT-Four. The missus noticed a high pitched squeaking noise from the left rear, and I could hear creaking from the right rear. Definitely a case of needing some lube.

    This noise messed me up because I was literally a tech. So, one day, I put my car up on a lift, checked all four corners, cleaned the crap out of everything I could touch at the wheels, as far as brakes were concerned. I soaked the slide pins, replaced the pad clips, greased all points to the best of my ability, aaaand... then it started happening again, after a few days. To be clear, I'm quite certain the video's solution is the correct one, I think I just have a gremlin or two.
    Edit: your caliper piston can produce this shitty sound if it needs a rebuild.

    Thanks ! For the video !!! I did my front pads and rotors on my 2011 outlander sport, and used spray silicone wd40 for the pins and every time since when I go to the drive thru for my coffee I hear that god dammnnn creaking 😤😂lol, and I have pulled that wheel off about 4 times too look again and again! But this time I pulled the calliper bracket off used brake clean for the slide pin holes then lubed it up with silicone grease made sure they slid good-they did like butter 😉at first upon removal they were really tight because I think the spray wd40 evaporated from the braking heat, but I went for a test drive stopped like 30 times and gone just like magic well not really… I should have used the proper grease… but at last quiet brakes ahhhhh 🤗 so again thanks for the video and I wish you to never have brake noise again AMEN. 😉😂

    I'll add a quick tip of my own straight from the shop. I usually use a soft nylon pipe cleaner, about a 1/4 inch in diameter, to clean out all the crap that accumulates inside the "bore" where the caliper pins do there work. Do this with brake cleaner and compressed air a few times while looking inside after each pass just to check your progress. NEVER use a drill bit to do this! I've seen a lot of guys do it. It might be faster but your also chewing up the steel and boring out the bore even further. You do not want the pins slapping around inside easily. If it can be compared to throwing a hot dog down a hallway ( kind of like your ex) then this is bad. The soft nylon, rounded brush, will not damage the internal part of the bracket and can actually bring it back to a polished shine. Have fun!! Be careful!

    • @MrAwsomeshot
      @MrAwsomeshot Před 4 měsíci

      bronze brush chucked up in a drill is fine. anything that it will remove is already going to just contribute to further corrosion and gunk build up anyhow. pack the bore with grease while you have the boot off, push the pin down in and clean off the excess replace boot and put it back together.

  • @nyceguy7543
    @nyceguy7543 Před 2 lety +4

    I had similar creaking brake pedal noise but this extra info might help viewers.
    My signs included more brake dust on the front driver side than the other.
    At highway speed, between 50 and 55 mph (I never was able to do 60 mph - I stayed at 40 mph max), the front driver side wheel would vibrate under my foot as if the rotor was loose and/or bent.
    Most times I felt the vibration in the steering wheel. Vibration stopped when I slowed down.
    When I took out the tire, my slide pins were fine but the caliper piston was stuck stiff like hell.
    I started the car and pumped the brake pedal a little to push out the piston some 1.5 - 2 inches to expose the piston.
    There was heavy build-up rust on the piston sliding surface.
    As a temporary measure (ultimate solution is replace or repair if you can), I parted the piston boot with a flathead screwdriver, Cleaned off as much rust as I could and instilled generous amount of WD40 into the space.
    After returning the piston with a C-clamp (not an easy task), I pumped the braked pedal to push the piston out again.
    The WD40 that came out was also rusty.
    Finally, I compressed the piston and put everything back.
    I wish to report that the creaking noise has disappeared.
    And for the first time in over 3 weeks, the handling was smooth. I was able to do 70 mph + without vibrations.
    It is interesting how, in other videos with similar noise, spraying the moving parts/joints of the brake pedal with some lubricant solved the problem. My thought is that if there is a combo of the creaking pedal noise, excessive one-sided brake dust, and vibration at highway speed, the culprit would most like be a stuck piston.

    My truck sounds like this when I drive it and when I turn at lower speeds. Could it be the brakes or wheel bearings? It’s very noticeable after the 3rd day

    • @TheBudgetMindedMotorist
      @TheBudgetMindedMotorist  Před 3 lety

      Generally from what I understand wheel bearings tend to be more of a rumble, but I so suppose anything is possible. If it's making creaking noises when turning I would take a look at the tie rod ends and possibly the ball joints. Sometimes moisture can find it's way into the joints and begin to corrode the bearing surfaces inside causing the noise, or sometimes the grease in them just doesn't lubricate any more leading to creaks and such. Hopefully this helps get you started in the right direction. Thanks for watching.

      Sounds like you're on the right track. If it's not happening when you press or release the break pedal, I'd guess ball joints or tie rod ends.

    I have a problem where I hear a loud creaking sound when braking even when the car has completely stopped I press on the brakes and hear a loud creaking sound it sounds like a door hinge that needs to lubed any recommendations ? • @TheBudgetMindedMotorist
      @TheBudgetMindedMotorist  Před 2 lety

      Lubing the pins should help. What you're describing sounds exactly like what mine were doing. Also make sure there's not stuff built up between the pads and caliper. Been told that can cause the noise as well.

    • @oggy4418
      @oggy4418 Před rokem

      Exactly my problem now If cleaning and lubbing does not help maybe the piston inside of the caliper is the blame. Besides if the car is old everything is worn down and there may be a lot of play between all parts and they are not moving like they supposed to. May I ask what solved your problem?

    • @TheBudgetMindedMotorist
      @TheBudgetMindedMotorist  Před 2 lety +1

      If it's not making noise at a stand still, I'd lean more towards looking at the suspension components. Could be ball joints like you said, or another suspension component getting a little dry and creaking as the breaking load is happening. Sounds like you're on the right track 👍

    I can hear the creaking noise from the back of my car but it only happens when the car is moving and breaking down to a hold. So I suspect suspension issues but I'm not sure. It doesn't seem to come from one specific side. Any idea?

    • @TheBudgetMindedMotorist
      @TheBudgetMindedMotorist  Před 3 lety +2

      If it's not the brakes causing your symptoms, It could be suspension related. Perhaps a worn or failing suspension bushing. I know diagnosing sounds like that can be really frustrating to locate and diagnose. But if there's anyway you can try to replicate the noise with the car parked it might help. Maybe set the parking brake and push forward and backward on the car and see if you can hear any movement or creaking in the suspension.

    I have the same sound coming when either the brake(car angle depresses) or the accelerator(car angle raises) is pressed .
    The sound comes only when the car is moving
    And not on standstill.
    Please advise

    • @TheBudgetMindedMotorist
      @TheBudgetMindedMotorist  Před 3 lety +3

      If it doesn't make noise when stopped, it could be a bushing or something else in the suspension needs lube or replacement. That's where I'd start looking first.

      The sound started coming when the vehicle was 3 months old .
      Since it is a new car , can it be a manufacturing defect?
      It has gone 3 times for rectification of the same
      2 times they greased the brakes , the sound reappeared next day.
      3rd time they unscrewed the lower body and rescrewed it.
      It was this time that the the sound disappeared for around 2 weeks but reappeared again

      If the noise is happening when you turn the steering wheel, it could be the joints on the tie rod ends where they meet the spindle. Sometimes water can get in them and cause corrosion or they may just need to be greased if they have a grease fitting.
