- Fr. Scott Bailey reflects on the life and example of Blessed Miguel Pro, a priest-martyr in Mexico who was killed in 1927. While Mexico was persecuted by Plutarco Calles and restrictions were placed on priests and the Catholic Church, Father Miguel Pro did ministry clandestinely and was ultimately martyred for it. His death inspired the crowds after the newspapers published the pictures of his bloody execution.

My grandfather was a cristero who fought alongside with the likes of El Catorce. In fact, Enrique Gorostieta was killed by federales on a ranch that would later be purchased and owned by my abuelito (grandfather) Cristobal Lozano and was laid to rest inside a church in Atotonilco el Alto (I think he's still laid to rest there).
I've seen that black and white photo recently. Glad to know the origins of the Good News, Viva Christo Rey!

Mi mamá tenia su FOTO en la Sala del Padre Miguel Pro y siempre le oraba. Una vez mi hermanito estaba muy enfermo , se le revento UN oido y mi mama le puso la foto del Padre Pro a CERCA de su oido y se alivio. Eso Paso hace 55 años .

Está historia, con mucho respeto, es una que tiene que ser compartida con el Vaticano.. ya sea que escribas una carta a la oficina allá que se encarga de los procesos de canonización - para que ojalá, entre más milagros se le enlazan, se pueda declarar a este gran sacerdote un santo (ya que actualmente solamente se le declara “bendito.”)

There was in fact 2 firing squads the first group refused to shoot. A second group shot this holy Priest. The first group was then executed

Father Scott says that he simply meant that the governments of the world would be more just and pursue the common good. And of course, as Christians, we should pray for all those who have roles of leadership in our governments, and for their conversions to Christ. Like St. Paul urged us: "I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thankgivings be made for all men, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life, godly and respectful in every way" (1 Timothy 2:1-2).
