    I realize that Park is just trying to drum up a little business for the holiday season, but...
    About a year and a half ago got back into cycling after being away a long time. I convinced my family that I needed a 10.3 for Father's day. It's wonderful. It allows me to easily do adjustments to the point where I'm happy with them, rather than "that'll get by". Since I got back in I've done four frame up restorations and two new bike assemblies using methods like hanging the nose of the saddle over a pipe in the basement. Since I've got the stand, a new assembly and lots of adjustments, changes and tweaks to the family fleet. It's a lot more fun and easier with the stand.

    Got a PCS 10.3 stand few days ago. First stand that I've ever had the opportunity to own, I don't fully trust it yet to put the bike vertically, or in some other weird fashion, but I can for sure say that this is one of the most fundamental things to own if you want to wrench on your bike. I lived without it for many years, but damn... It's a different world !

    • @compasteedee
      @compasteedee Před rokem +2

      I've also got a 10.3, and as long as it is not an e-bike, or a crazy heavy downhill bike, it's not going to be a problem. I have a 2016 Kona Process, that is not a light bike, and I put it vertically to do brake bleeds, and I have no concerns. I've put all manner of bikes in all sorts of weird positions, and the stand just works. I was hesitant to spend so much money on a bike stand, but I completely understand why Park stands are so pricey. Can't say I love the price, but I understand.

  • @zygmuntthecacaokakistocrat6589

    I have a bench mount PRS-4M. Not many people know what this is. I welded up a base for it that is bolted to my workshop floor, and it is the sort of stand you can bend cro-moly frames back into shape in. I've also got an old base (? model) with a retrofitted 100-3 clamp in it (it used to have a spring-pressure clamp) as the 2nd workshop stand, It has a piece of 1" square steel bar that is bent into a square to form a base. It is the best moveable base that I have seen: heavy enough to not 'walk', but easily moveable round the workshop. I must confess that my event and portable stand is a 15 y.o. Feedback (formerly Ultimate) Sports Pro stand, and my bike wash stand is an old Minoura one. I think if you had the 3 leg PRS 26 out at the time, I would have bought it instead of the Feedback Sports one.

    I chose to purchase the Park Tool PCS-4-2 deluxe home mechanic bicycle repair stand back in September. Calvin is right about eliminating confusion trying to work on a bike upside down. That was very apparent to me earlier this year before I had a stand and was installing new Bontrager tires on my '06 Trek Multitrack 7500. The tires were directional and trying to do the work on an upside down bike I found that I had the tires mounted to turn in the wrong direction going forward for the tire design and had to remount the tires. My stand and other Park Tools and The Big Blue Book of Bicycle Repair have been great additions.

    it probably does make working on your bike more fun, and i can see it doubling as a holder for other stuff(its just a stand come on) AND it will make it a lot easier for someone trying to get into bike fixing... i dont have one though. its not one of those things that are absolutely neccessary(ive used a chair and a metal frame to hold the wheel off the ground but its not exactly ideal) but for some it might mean the difference between fixing your bike and giving up, or atleast not dread the process... it makes a lot of things easier and easy = good.

    Do you always clamp at the seat post only?
    And im getting a new bike bought some motorex carbon paste as they said i should use that in the seat post ? Both aluminium frame and seat post should i still use carbon paste?
    Also can i use the carbon paste when mounting my pedals or should i use something else?

    • @parktool
      @parktool  Před 20 dny +1

      The "carbon paste" can be used with the aluminum frame and post. The seat post is almost always safe to clamp. It carried your body weight and can handle being clamp quite well. Never use an assembly compounds or "carbon paste" for lubricating threads. It has grit inside, and will wear the threads.

    A bike stand is good if you are a serious biker but for most people bike repairs can be done on a floor mat with the bike inverted 360 and sit to rest on the handlebars and the seat. However, anyone who has a bike in excess of $250 a bike repair stand is a great investment, especially if a person really takes their biking / exercising seriously. A bike stand is a great one time investment and will typically last the owner a lifetime of less cumbersome bike maintenance and repairs. I'm almost 55 and love to do my own bike and car repairs thus good tools are a must for anyone who loves DIY repairs and maintenance.

      '90s still in service. My
      TS2 paid for itself within a month.
      If you work on bikes often, a good bike stand will SAVE you money. In my case it has earned me money. In fact, enough to support my 'habit' and then some!
      In a larger world of expensive tools used often, doing high quality work, bike tools are relatively affordable comparatively.
      I have probably well over $200k worth of bike tools, general mechanic's tools, precision measuring instruments, industrial machinery and fabrication tools in my man cave. It's taken decades to collect. Some of it was gifted to me and some was inherited. Its all very useful when I needed it and it's all been an excellent investment, rewarding and incredibly satisfying to take pride in work well done.
