    Excellent video. This just confirms to me that if you are concerned about interior noise, think long and hard about a Jeep being your daily driver.

    I'm questioning the placement of the db meter on this test. It seems like a lot of the noise/sound would be emanating from the windshield and dash board, which would be unchanged by placing materials on the roof/floor. You may have a considerably lesser amount of sound being transmitted through either the roof or floor, but if the meter is placed on the dash, so close to the windshield, it may not register the reductions in those other areas if it's primarily picking up the sound from the windshield...

    I daily a Gladiator between 0 and 90 mph and road noise has never really seemed to be an issue. I also ride a motorcycle so maybe the JT feels like luxury after being on the bike.

    Great work with this video!!! I have a ‘22 392 Xtreme Recon and like your Jeep, it’s loud as can be at 70-80 MPH. I pulled the hardtop, removed the Mopar headliner kit, and I’m looking to do something similar to what you did with either Dynamat or Boommat. Over that, I plan to install a Coverking complete headliner kit. I agree, $700 for those jute backed rubber floor mats is a hard pill to swallow! Personally, I’m leaving my carpets in place until absolutely necessary to reduce noise and heat transfer.

    I think it's harder to sound deaden wranglers because a lot of the structure is detachable. A lot of noise and vibration is still sneaking through.

      It’s great and really happy with the upgrade. It was expensive and I could have got a lift for the cost. But it’s very practical and will allow my family and I to go on the long road trip adventures more comfortable. I also enjoy the quieter commute when I drive into the office. I don’t need to turn the radio as loud. I have a long road trip planned for September to go Elk hunting in CO and will definitely appreciate the quieter cabin to have conversations at a normal level.

    Some supplier needs to put each model of jeep in a wind tunnel and design airdams for both the front of the hood and top of the winshield to help with windshield hits and airflow over RTT.

    I think your tires are the main noise contributor at low speed, and the wind is the main culprit at higher speed. But also, just sheer surface area of the tub is much higher. It makes sense.

    • @rlfgarage3726
      @rlfgarage3726  Před 2 lety

      I used the 50 mil. I think you could use the 80mil if you wanted for everything besides around the edges. With the armorlite and 50 mil Kilmat the trim panel that that runs the back passenger door won’t stay snapped. Not sure if it would snap without the Kilmat but it’s not helping.

    Great video man!! I was thinking the same thing as @akw2798 about the placement of the meter near the windshield... Though if you jump from stock, to mid to full upgrades in the video (especially with headphones on) you can definitely perceive the improvement in the quality of the interior noise. My 25 y.o. son has a mint '18 JL Rubicon we helped him scoop after graduating college 2 years ago, and he swears he doesn't have a problem with the road and wind noise. BUT, he drove the 350 miles over the river and through the woods to Maine (OK, it was all highway miles) to visit my Mum/their Nanie with his 21 y.o. little bro and little bro complained all the way up and all the way back to Massachusetts about the noise Noise NOISE (Grinch reference) and the lack of leg room and seat position comfort. He's 6'-5" so... lol I personally can't stand high NVH vehicles, I'm very sensitive to that and am always chasing noise, rattles and Db ratings in any car I've ever owned. It's why I now drive a Lexus GS350, and surprisingly even with that car I'm chasing noise. Your video was so comprehensive and showed the actual improvement, which is impressive. It seemed to me that the overall quality of the interior sound improved as well as the reduction in sound. That to me is worth it. I'm going to be showing this vid to my kid and see if he wants to take on this project with me. Thanks again man. Nice work. Imagine how much better it could be with the door skins and trunk package as well. Granted, that's a lot of cash to slide by the wife... 😱

    Nice Mod Adventure. We need more like this. Thanks.
    The two questions I have:
    1. Did the internal cabin acoustics change: internal Conversations, music, and did it affect that sound bleed to the exterior at all?
    2. Have you noticed any actual temperature regulation improvement in the cabin in hot or cold extremes?
    * to me.. it Seems like the kilmat is geared to being more of a very limited temperature insulator than being an effective sound dampener. I wonder what those felt based insulating liners are like in comparison.

    Did you think about putting sound deaden inside the doors? I heard that helps alot.

    • @rlfgarage3726
      @rlfgarage3726  Před rokem

      A few weeks after the video I did put sounds deadening in all four doors. I don’t think it actually reduced the sound anymore as most of the sound is coming in at the windshield, but it’s worth doing if you are doing all the rest and have left over material.

    • @rlfgarage3726
      @rlfgarage3726  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey Grand Lou, I do think it was worth the time and investment. I’ve been wanting to do these upgrades for a while, but after the long road trip it really sealed the deal. I think this upgrade is more important than a lift and tires because it’s going to allow my family to be more comfortable on long road trips. And a stock Rubicon is very capable from the factory and there’s a lot we can explore. I’m really happy with how everything turned out.

  • @jpdrummer86
    @jpdrummer86 Před rokem +2

    Seems to me like the there wasn’t much difference from the boom Mats and Kilmat vs the armolite at 80mph, it seems to me the boom mats + kilmat made most of the improvement on the decibels and is the easiest install and costs the least, especially once you factor in the weight I’d the armorlite+ kilmat, doesn’t seem to be worth the extra one or two decibels extra for the drawback of the added weight. You made my decision easier by just going for the roof deadening and leave the floors alone since it doesn’t make too much difference and costs a lot more on parts and labor

    • @AnaIG4

    • @rlfgarage3726
      @rlfgarage3726  Před rokem +1

      That’s a good question. I’m not sure and it is something I thought about after I completed the video. If I had to guess I would say about 60- 70 lbs. The sound dampening material is pretty heavy and so is the floor liners.

      I can relate as well. When I go camping with the family the roof rack is loaded down. I installed air bags in the back springs to take away all the squat when loaded down. This has been an awesome upgrade that wasn’t very expensive. I’m thinking about doing a video on that upgrade.

    but trying to sound dampening a Wrangler, you probably should have got a Denali , it sounds like a Jeep wrangler isn't for you🤔 you're trying to make an off-road rugged jeep In to a luxury car , and you actually use the sound meter in it Jesus Christ seriously man 🙄 you probably should have got these Land Rover or the Lexus version 😉👍
