This desk was built for a client who wanted a really Big, Modern, L Shaped, Corner, Executive Desk...and I think we ticked all of the boxes. It is made out of walnut and measure about 100 inches along one length, and 112 inches along the other. So too big for most people's rooms. For that reason we didn't make plans for this desk, but we have plans for a different desk and plenty of other woodworking projects on our site.

The author does like to czcams.com/users/postUgkxkNYRBJuiJ6EwD-tQSAlxg0eFKsnR2cgz from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. As another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us don’t have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we won’t be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.

As someone who doesn't have a single bit of experience with woodworking, I appreciate you taking the time to explain your tools, reasoning, and basic terminology. This video alone opened my eyes to the details like the flow of the grain from side to side as well as the edge within an edge thing, that was cool.

26:23 idea! Cut a slot half up the back portion of one leg and cut another slot half down the other leg. Glue, slide together and screw from both sides of the corner edge. Not sure if this is practical or adds any additional strength but it just popped in my head watching this.

Your work is always so cool. It's part of the reason I've become so obsessed with modern and mid century modern furniture. I have a feeling that in 20/30/60 years, your pieces will be on that antique road show. An original four eyes coffee table/dresser/different coffee table/different dresser.

Fantastic, as always, work from you two. Regarding the use of pocket holes, just prior to watching this video I was watching Ishitani's latest video and seeing how he attached stretchers under his table and it was mind blowing how well it was done, but is also meant to be seen. Pocket holes were perfectly fine in your fine furniture piece and the mechanical fasteners perform well there.

Thank you! I am also in the middle of a corner desk build. I've done the two mitered top parts and I was designing how to join them together and how to properly support the top across the seam between the two parts. I was thinking of all kinds of crazy things, but now I think using dominos without glue plus dogbone connectors to join the two parts of the top, and supporting the weight using a leg that connects at the back corner where the two tops meet would be sufficient.

If you’re open to the idea something we use at the shop I work for is to apply p-lam laminate to our work table tops. The laminate is really good at not letting glue stick to it. After there is glue you can scrap it off and just it the surface with a quick sand if it’s too hard to scrap. Once it’s to thin(which takes a long time) it’s easy to use more contact cement and just apply a new layer. It’s been a great surface to work on and saves time during glue ups not working about tape or mats.

What a beautiful desk. I need the plans man, I want one in my office. This is gorgeous as is but would be next level with some kind of epoxy inlay and protective coating. I'd totally add is some hidden provisions for wires and lighting. The styling is just very appealing and I think classic. I want to say 60's. One could make it using almost any kind of material too and scale it to different sizes. Small, medium and large, budget materials, mid grade, exotic and then even incorporate steel and or aluminum with wood. I could see this in different colors too, reversed layout and maybe even matching wall mount cabinet. I could build a company just on selling this design and some variants for a wide range of budgets. Your video is also top quality with some great humor (I laughed hard a few times), detailed filming and addition of technical animations. Big thumbs up.

Oh wow, that's just beautiful!. I would buy one. I had difficulty finding a desk for a 49" ultrawide monitor that can also withstand the weight of another 34" monitor mounted on a vertical stand. The current desk sizes are for tiny monitors, and when used with ultra wides, there is no room for stuff (laptop, coffee, books, headphones, etc.). I ended up buying a dining table as my desk for my setup.

For the solid wood cabinet is there no need to be concerned for wood movement? Thinking about the miter sides and the center panel glued across the width. I’m going to be building my first solid wood piece soon, and am just confused about when and where I need to be concerned with wood movement. I understand wood moves perpendicular to the direction of the grain, it’s more confusing to me about when it’s safe to glue and when it’s better to attach a piece to allow for movement. Love this piece! I’ve learned so much from you both. Thanks in advance.
