I just used two of these for a studio interview - they are absolutely perfect because of that pickup pattern, you can just keep all channels up and not worry about spill. Plan is to actually get two more for a four person podcast - you're right - "why not?", they just sound great.

I've always loved the "Sennheiser sound" - crisp, intelligible, but not too sibilant, and I've found Sennheisers to be fairly "hot" mics - higher sensitivity than most other brands. Good build quality, too. I also like the fact that Sennheiser is one of the only brands that makes both omni and cardioid reporter mics, so you have a choice in the field. Most other handhelds like this are omni only. Only thing I wish is that Sennheiser would at least include *some* accessories with the mic, such as the clip(!?) and a basic foam windscreen. But nope, you pay around $200 and get no accessories with it. C'mon, Sennheiser!

My go to interview mic for noisy environments, although the Rode Reporter is a very close 2nd place.

I've bever tried the Rode, I guess it picks up too much room noise?

Wider patterns and higher sensitivity are more 'forgiving' of poor mic placement, but proper technique and tight pattern will almost always give better results. You can always 'add-in' additional ambience from a scratch mic if needed. Removing the sound is harder, even with the amazing AI tools available today.@@michalspisiak

I've never tried the Rode, but one thing that immediately comes to mind that I would like is the flat side that keeps the mic from rolling off a table or desk.

Great video, thanks for sharing. When you record with the MD 46, did he generate this hiss noise.
Did you reduce the hiss noise in post processing? Thanks!

Why are there so many cables plugged into your H5? I hope they're not all needed just to plug in the microphone to the recorder :)

Do you mean the cable that goes to the battery bank? Ye, that's how I often power it
