As around 175-180 cm guy myself...watching movies and seeing many of these ladies always made me feel short, so it's actually rather surprising that in reality they are shorter. Cameras sure are deceptive. . Elizabeth Olsen definitely seemed tall in marvel moviesJennifer Connely in Snowpiercer also looked fairly tall. Quite interesting, to say the least

Camera angles...and heels. Don't forget heels will add 3-5+ inches (3 inches is the average heel height but celebrities usually wear higher heels).

I was invited me to attend a sales party for TV stations from outside the US on Warner Brother Burbank lot twenty years ago. I am 6’2” and was about 200# at the time and I felt like a giant among the talent. I don’t know why, but it seems entertainers for the most part are very small people.

Yup. Surprising that most well known figures are petite. I guess when there were younger, they worked damned hard to counter this fact and turned out to be brilliant actresses. Tall leggy ones has the tendency to fall into dumb blondes sterotype since it is a mens world out there. Not anymore now.

It’s easier to film shorter People I believe… For some reason.. And it’s more than the camera adds ten pounds supposedly.. Probably cheaper to make sets for them and to fit more than one Person into the shot.. I worked, very limited short time, in photography..

Well, this is less 'shocking' after watching how tall their male counterparts are / were. However, that Kate Hepburn was smaller than Audrey really surprises me and shows how much is done by body shape, clothes, high heels, camera angels etc. etc.

If I was ever to come across these shorter, yet well known, actresses (actors too), I think I'd be surprised expecting them to be much taller being accustomed with seeing them at near horizontal eye level.

I met James Tolkan, the bald officer who yells at Tom Cruise in Top Gun. I would thought of him as huge. I could see the top of his head. Im 5'6". He also follows me in the phone book and I'd occasionally get his calls.
I was surprised at the height of some of these actresses who have also been models. I'm 5'10" and during my first year at uni in the 70s a friend of mine who did catwalk modelling to get some extra cash suggested I apply to the agency she worked for. She gave me a form with all the requirements: minimum height 5'10!

This is the states but Uk and states are pretty much the same. Even at peak heights less than 2% of females reach 5’10. You will know taller people either because of your family (I’m guessing you come from a tallish family), and or your profession. Models will meet others. It’s rare for a lady to grow that tall. I’ve learned that much making these videos
I had no idea that these women were so short. It kind of reminds me of the time I went to a Whitetail Deer Park and realized deer are way smaller than I thought.

They aren't actually short. Statistics for U.S. women are (may be out of date as humans are getting taller with each generation): 3% of women are shorter than 4'11.5", average is 5'4.3", and only 3% are taller than 5'9.1".

Seems like the shorter they are, the more likely I’ve heard of them. Perhaps I just prefer spinners. Also I think the shorter ones make their male co-star look more masculine and are probably cast more often.

Thing is most people who make height stuff don’t do any research. It’s actually quite easy because you get to look at a lot of pictures while gathering height info. It’s not as tough as you might think

Good to see if I ever had a chance with the beautiful actresses, most of them would be shorter than me or near my height, I'm 5'7" which is short or 'average' for a guy (depending on where you are) but I'm fine with it, it used to bother me more when I was younger/growing up. As others mentioned on tv these actresses appeared to be a lot taller...it's interesting to find out they're really not that tall.

Average female height in the US is 5'4'' so that is why it is very common to see short actresses. Not because height equate to talents, but they are just bigger in population. I find it is ridiculuous how some these people corelate their height to their talents.

Well she was barely any taller than Tom cruise if you look at them closely. Some photos with heels she was a bit. He has always been skated by people as being silly short when fact is he’s almost her height. That’s a giveaway that she’s not 1.80 lol

Is this data accurate? I mean seriously 5'1 . My entire life, i thought in US it is very common to have height above 5'5. When I was a kid, I got to know about US through WWF and WWE card games. where me and my friends use to battle with cards. We battle with rank, height, weight, chest, biceps. The common thing in all the cards were the wrestlers gt height above 6 and 5'7 was like the max lowest.

Ironically in the most recent version of Wonder Woman in the DC comics, she is now 6-2. In the first pilot of Wonder Woman back in 1974, Cathy Lee Crosby is 5-8.

@@DataWatch. It was actually for the first pilot for the Wonder Woman TV series in 1974. It had lackluster ratings so it didn't get picked up, and a year later they launched the show again, this time with Lynda Carter. Cathy Lee Crosby was a professional tennis player in the 60s and went into tv acting when she quit. Crosby was actually pretty well known back in the 1970s and early 80s.

I’m a tall man. Never understood why short women want tall men. I understood tall women wanting tall men. I walked into a diner with a tall woman and all eyes were on her, like she’s a freak. Short women don’t get those kind of looks.

Actresses would HAVE to be short. Most actors aren't gonna be 6 plus, they are theater geeks. Probably around 5'8". And the "guy" needs to be taller than the "girl" in the movie. Tom Cruise is 5'7" (I think). He is always paired with short women, or never shown at the same level. You cast tall women if you need an "imposing, strong, tough woman."

Tripped me out. Ladies I pictured as statuesque are actually vertically challenged, and those I thought short were above average height.

Though I'm sure most of these stats are accurate. I saw a mini bio on TCM about Doris Day & that stated she was 5' 10" . Also as a fan of Nicole Kidman , all the stats I ever read on her had her at 5"11" . That was a big deal around the time of her divorce from Tom Cruise because she stated that she could never wear heels around him as she was already 2 inches taller than him. Best thng to ever happen was for her to get that divorce & start wearing 5 inch heels.

5’10??? 🤣. Sorry for laughing but I’ve never heard that one. Her driving licence says 5’7 and that’s the maximum I’d say. Regarding Tom cruise, he’s taller than most people give him credit for. He looks almost as tall as Nicole Kidman in many of their photos, I think my listing is perfect
