When you hang your food from the bear you just becomes the food... LOL

Thanks for this Jason... the tip about pulling the hang out further from the tree is pure gold! It never occurred to me because I always had my pulley too close to the branch. Like others, I wasted a lot of time searching for perfect branches before this.

The large carabiner is the best type of weight to throw over a branch. It has only smooth surfaces so is less likely to get stuck up in the tree.

I like this format of videos as well, is nice to see some applications of the knots and there is a lot of value in the Camping situation on itself.

Nice video. There are no bears where I live, but lots of wild boars, and they like to steal your food overnight

This system is really well thought out. A couple weeks ago going camping, we spent a good half hour roaming in the dark looking for a long and sturdy enough branch to ensure the minimum distance from the main trunk. The pulley allowing swaying the hanging line is such a time saver. Bonus for the carabiner trick to swing like a lasso (trying to javelin a random walking stick straight and over is not easy haha).

I just found this channel (I’ve been subscribed to your other channel) and really liked this video. The pulley system is great. Where I used to do most of my camping in the Adirondacks (NY) we had to use an approved canister/cache style container but, back in the 1960’s and 70’s we just threw a single rope over a branch. Habituated bears, well any bears actually, weren’t such an issue back then. We had many more problems with mice, raccoons, etc.
