But on the other hand, some trends are real, real bad … like the use of bigger and bigger iPad like screens getting stuck to the dashboard, cough cough Tesla. Join Nolan as he covers some of the worst trends, and which manufacturers are the worst offenders. No one is safe on this one, we take a look at Toyota, Nissan, Subaru, Honda, Porsche, BMW, Tesla, and just about everyone in the auto industry!

The subscription service one is the most insane thing I have ever heard. I'm surprised Apple wasn't like "you can't charge people to use a service that we made"
How are you suprised at Apple not caring about the consumers who use their products?

Thank you thank you thank you for calling out GM for wanton reverse lights. This drives me insane every time I encounter it in the wild, which is usually when I’m waiting for someone to back out of a parking spot before realizing they’re just sitting there or walking to their car. It is beyond comprehension how this “feature” could make it into a production vehicle.
Clearly you are a narrow minded city dweller. Its a useful feature in the country where there are no street lights. How else are you supposed to see the bears ? Besides its fun to piss city people off in parking lots who are waiting for my spot 😜- sometimes i click it twice just to make them wait longer.
Oooo so that's intentional
That one about gearshift is so true. I work at a tire shop, so I get to drive lots of different cars. The nonstandard weird buttons, knows, dials and digital shifters are getting crazy. I'll sit there for 30 seconds trying to figure out how to get the damn car into gear. Drives me nuts.
I never ever want to go near the driver seat of a car that shifts with anything besides a stick. Holy fuck, we need some kind of law mandating that all cars must use sticks to shift and any other device needs to be proven to be an upgrade
It's honestly a big part of the reason I bought a Ford instead of a Dodge. Give me a lever that is physically connected to the shift linkage, not a knob that tells the computer to move a solenoid that is connected to the same linkage that the lever used to connect to. The worst I've seen is Mercedes, the shifter is on like a turn signal style stalk on the steering column. Everyone I work with took like 5 minutes to even find it and most guys have accidentally bumped it into neutral a bunch of times going for the turn signal.
My biggest concern is trying to turn down an A/C in a shop car and ending up shifting into park
I can remember a time when I went to a company event. The company had paid for a vallet service. I had to fetch my VW bug because the vallet kids couldn't figure out how to put it in reverse. Granted, not only was there one vallet kid who knew how to drive a stick, but VW bugs had a feature where you had to push the stick down to allow it to move far enough left to get into reverse.

The BWM delivery thing sounds pretty cool, it’s like calling the mechanic in GTA to bring you one of your cars. Imagine having a BMW Johnny on the spot

And the you have your cousin calling you all the time about playing bowling or something
Mine is definitely large wheels / low profile tires, *ESPECIALLY* when it's on an SUV, since it defeats the purpose of them. If I buy an SUV, I want it to be capable of at least driving on some unpaved roads without worrying so much about destroying rims/tires due to going over a tiny pebble on the road.

Would like to have turn signals moved back to the sides of the vehicle so you can tell if you can make a turn or cross the street without having the end of the car pointed directly towards you. But this would also require more drivers to fallow the traffic laws and apply the turn signal before they are almost done with the turn, or in many cases, many of my family members included, even using their signal lamps in the first place.

3:12 the “fake reverse lights” are lighting for when you get out of the car. i used to live in the woods so it would get really dark outside at night. when i would come home i wouldn’t be able to see anything. my 2015 chevy sonic rs comes with this feature but it’s not just reverse lights. it’s every exterior light. you can go to car settings to shut it off if you desperately need to, or you can change the time. 30 sec, 60 sec, 120 sec. the more you know.
Neat explanation of why the feature exists.. But it shouldn't be on by default, people who need it should turn it on, not the majority who don't need it needing to turn it off
Hi there, tech here, talked to a GM engineer a while back and he actually explained the whole "reverse lights on for 2 minutes" gag, he said it was because GM asked them to come up with a way that an owner could check all of their lights without help from anyone else. However, due to time restraints and budget worries, they didn't make it a feature on the fob, as the original plan was to put it on the fob as a Exterior Light Check button, or to have a button on the inside to achieve the same effect. Instead, they just set it up in the computer to initiate "Exterior Light Check" mode every time the car is either shut off or locked (depending on the year or model you own), and thus the fake reverse lights were born. GM just uses them still today because, while annoying, they aren't a major safety concern, and the computer systems inside the cars have remained relatively unchanged over the years.

I wanna mention as a Toyota tech, Toyota have that seatbelt unbuckled alarm in the rear seats. Problem with that, there's no occupant detection sensors in the back. So if the left rear door was opened, left rear seatbelt was buckled, and upon leaving the vehicle, that person unbuckles their seatbelt and leaves through the right door, the car will see it as that person doesn't have their seatbelt buckled upon moving. Because that person didn't leave through the left rear door. We get those all the time

I miss 15" wheels & tires that actually had sidewalls, cars had better clearance and didn't ride like a wagon on rough road, tires had more tread & lasted a lot longer too...
Yes! I have been saying that about the touch screens for a long time. Phone bad, huge touch screen you have to go through to adjust your heat good. Insane.
Manufacturing or selling a car with a touch screen in it should be illegal. Unless it's on the back of the front seats to keep the kids entertained, I guess. That can stay.
So you’re against adjusting your heat on a touch screen but not adjusting your heat with a knob. Majority of cars with touch screens don’t require you to adjust climate on the screen
@@InconspicuousStranger it's a little more than just touching the screen to adjust the heat on a touch screen versus just turning the knob. Some touch screens you have to go through the menu to get to the spot where you can adjust the temp, adjust which vents blow, etc. It's not all right there on the main screen. Those are the ones I am referring to. The vehicles that don't have the knobs along with the touch screen, and the touch screens that have you touch this and then that and then go into this, not so easy to do when you are driving. At that point it becomes no different than scrolling through your phone while driving. The only difference is one is acceptable and one isn't. With the knobs you know right where they are, you can adjust with a small glance, or not looking at all. Besides, this is my opinion on the matter, you don't have to agree.
Ok boomer
its 100 times easier just turning a knob or pressing a button than swiping through menus to change heat
Climate and radio controls becoming part of the touchscreen, and particularly climate controls becoming a house thermostat, is by far the most annoying trend I've ever encountered

I really hate waiting for someone to back out of a parking space, only to find he'd just locked his doors. Damned reverse lights!
What will make it even worse for you is that it's super easy to change it on GM vehicles. Just go into settings on the infotainment screen and you can change it to nothing, horn only, lights only or both horn and lights. I think you can even change the length of time the lights stay on too in 30 sec intervals.
@@michaellindgren9653 yeah but boomers are never in their settings
I didn't even know this was a thing until this video. Stupid feature
@ Michael Lindgren
The GM reverse light thing has been around since the late '90s, when cars still had buttons and your infotainment system consisted of a CD player if you were lucky. Changing or disabling it on pre-touchscreen models can either be a pain in the ass or virtually impossible, depending on model.
Something that grinds my gears, is the widespread use of digital dashes, I prefer analog gauges, just something Id rather have in my car, I don't like the idea of a computer screen displaying all my vital info, like electronics hate being cold so a cold computer dash doesn't seem like something that would last very long...

So glad u brought up GM’s reverse lights staying on.. I can’t tell if someone is tryna back out of a spot.. And most times there’s nobody in the f***ing car!
yes! This should honestly be banned so it doesnt spread to other cars. the reverse lights shouldn't ever turn on unless you are reversing.
I hate this stupid feature as well, it's supposed to be a lighting feature similar to having the headlights stay on so you can see where you're going after you've parked your car. The proper solution would be the one used in several pickup trucks over the years, just have the computer keep a set of cargo lamps on located in the third brake light housing, it would provide the same basic lighting and not get confused with the reverse lights. Doesn't really surprise me to see GM doing such stupid things, they'd be too cheap to add a couple of cargo lights to the third brake light on the crossovers/SUVs. Another solution that comes to mind would be using the license plate lights for this purpose. Having the reverse lights come on for any other reason than being in reverse is technically illegal I believe, but I don't think that applies to parking lots.
F
And you sometimes look like a jackass holding up a small lineup of vehicles because you were either courteous to let someone out or take their spot. It's similar to blue balls I swear.
That is a very common problem I seen since elementary school, there was at least once I saw not only were the standard reverse lights permanently on but also an additional set of accessory lights used as reverse lights also permanently on meaning that it's the wiring that got broken. Probably the funkiest thing I have seen a long time ago.

Le Chat Botté That’s what I thought.
OK, I know it sounds like I'm trying to defend an unnecessary car feature that is gesture controls, but I wanted to point that that feature is optional and you do not have to use it. You can still use the screen and knob and wheel controls while gesture is enabled. And you can even turn it off completely if you want. It also kind of makes it easier so you don't have to feel around for the button you want. And the gestures make a lot of sense for what they correspond to.
I agree with most of what you said, but not with the gesture control opinion, cuz I can use it in my bmw and not look at the screen at all, totally concentrating on the road, once I got used to it, it's all passive too, I don't even think about it while doing, my mind and my eyes totally on road, it's much better than searching for volume knob or mute button. Steering mount controls and gestures make my drive lot safe and most comfortable
My big gripe is day time running lights and how they don't enable the rear lights, only front. I've seen so many people driving after dark with their 'automatic daytime running lights' but no rear lights. If you're going to enable lights automatically ENABLE THEM ALL.
Hey man, we have to have some indication that a driver is stupid before they end up driving, well, stupidly.
Completely agree - how stupid to just have DRLs at the front, it can’t be that hard or expensive to include the rears. Unless the reason is that they could be mistaken for brake lights. OK, so don’t drive so close!!
