  • This video is about the Lucky Dragon Number Five, the ill-fated ship that spawned Godzilla. Godzilla is more than just a movie about a lizard, it is a way to understand and come to terms with one of the most destructive moments in human history, by the people who were forced to experience it. This aims to capture that story.

For what it is worth: There was good reason that OSS wanted to use the Atomic Bomb on Imperial Japan. The US had decoded the Japanese Encryption, and knew about "Operation Cherry Blossoms at Night".The I-400 Carrier Submarine being ditched near Hawaii, because the Emperor had surrendered, after Nagasaki was bombed. If the war continued for anther month, then unit 731s bioweapons would have been used on California, with the Aichi M6A Float Planes being used on a Suicide Bombing Mission, without their Floats [landing gear].
I would have targeted Unit 731, based at the Pingfang district of Harbinin in occupied China, afterwards telling both the Chinese Nationalists & Communists to Euthanize & Cremate everyone who had flash burns from the bomb, and then ring the blast zone with buckthorn trees, which would have saved millions of Chinese, from Unit 731s hastily dumped Bioweapons.
Also I would have nuked the Tokyo Imperial Palace, rather than cities like Hiroshima & Nagasaki, knowing that at least one Atom Bomb would be needed to persuade the Japanese Navy to scuttle the I-400 class carrier submarine before it could infect the West-coast, with weaponized bubonic plague, This attack by Aichi M6A float planes being used as suicide aircraft, to deliver Bubonic Plague would have killed between 1/4 of the population of the West-coast, and 1/4 of the population of the World.
The worst part, many of the Japanese Doctors & Scientists at Unit 731 thought they had made a doomsday weapon, and, yet they still weaponized all known Human & Livestock Diseases, using Chinese Civilians as Disposable Lab Rats....

Dave Hollinshead... I don't want to get into a long drawn-out conversation about this because I haven't looked at any of the material you offer here in the links but I did read years ago that Japan had tried to surrender and we would not let them surrender or accept their surrender for a number of months.
Is it true how would I know if I wasn't alive back then and I'm sure many who were alive back then don't know what the truth is.

The original Godzilla movie ("Gojira") from 1954 has a reminder, and a message, it just matters where you're from.
In Japan, the film was a grim reminder of not only the nuclear bombings, but to the Lucky Dragon 5 incident. If you haven't seen the original, Japanese version of Gojira, let me give you a brief synopsis of the opening scene.
Fisherman and Sailors are aboard a boat quietly playing cards, with sailor esc harmonica music plays. Suddenly, off the port side of the boat, a bright light forms. The crew members jolt up, until they're suddenly blinded, a man inside the ship starts telegraphing Tokyo, when water splashes in through the roof.
Now, I'm going to look at the message part of the film.
During Gojira, it's never said, but is implied that America's nuclear bomb testing awakened and transformed godzilla from and Godzillasaurus, to Gojira. So the film implies that if America were to continue testing nuclear bombs, more Godzillas would appear....

Wow. I'll never think of Godzilla the same.
This was a coping method for the Japanese people. Godzilla is a personification of the devastation of nuclear war. Maybe in the back of my head, I knew this. But now that I know the story, it's all too apparent.

    • @Crazt
      @Crazt Před 4 lety +2

Godzilla was more than this short documentary makes it. Everything about the original Godzilla was supposed to be a living stand in for the horrors of the nuclear age. It's flesh was made to replicate the skin of the survivors, the scales on it's back the toxic Ash that settled on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and it's breath the intense fury of the nuclear blasts. The rest of the story and the wanton destruction in film was war in and of itself.

Castle Bravo was actually the world's second hydrogen bomb, but it was the first "dry" H bomb design that could be made aircraft deliverable. The world's first hydrogen bomb was Ivy Mike, but it was purely a proof of concept.
The screw-up that caused Castle Bravo to be three times more powerful than originally planned is an interesting story in itself.

Minor correction. Castle Bravo wasn't the first thermonuclear weapon test. That dubious honor goes to the Ivy Mike shot, in December of 1952.

Great Channel. This is a production question. Can you share how you are capturing audio? Super clean audio, deep and rich on your talents voice. What microphone?

As a pop culture consumer - and, rarely, a creator as well - I knew something of the Gojira story. Nowhere near all of it, mind you.
Thank you for this additional piece of that puzzle.

Im just now realizing that all the credits are a little different in each video. Now, I have to go back and rewatch all of the video's I just binge watched. And I don't mind because they werre so good the first time and also I do find that I always miss something watching things just once.
