How the Yakuza Gave Rise to Nintendo

  • You can never tell what your actions will cause. A Catholic saint's desire to spread Christianity started a series of events that he would have no doubt greatly disapproved of. Yet, here we are.
    As a point of order, I want to clarify that gambling parlours weren't specifically run by Burakumin. Merely that those who are kept down by general society are more likely to find themselves profiting from 'anti-social' behaviour. I realize upon rewatching that it isn't clear in the video.

      Too bad it's inaccurate. Everything in the video were fairly accurate until the whole yakuza connection. By the time Nintendo formed, the bans on these cards were lifted, and due to major companies from the capital had released rule books for the commoners, and the game was widely popular (and legal) among the common folks. It was already a boom and a fad when Nintendo formed.
      To suggest that Yakuza was only and/or primary customer for Nintendo is patently FALSE. It's a twisting of the fact to drive a narrative.

    • @dynamicworlds1
      @dynamicworlds1 Před 5 lety +4

      Slavers used Christianity to justify slavery to themselves and as another way to tell the slaves in line as the Bible tells slaves to obey their masters.
      Missionaries were almost always sent to convert the slaves as it made them easier to control, NOT to improve the morals of the masters.
      Trying to pretend that anything but that and trying to get tithes from the profits of the slavers was anything but the exception is incredibly dishonest.

    I create things a bit and I stress a lot about it. The words at the end were rather calming to me.

    Is the Rare Earth series factual, or just one person's interpretation on facts (looking at facts from a different point of view)?

    • @RareEarthSeries
      @RareEarthSeries  Před 6 lety +18

      Totoro Zhen It is as factual as I can make it, but culture and history aren't always a single-line series of events, and at the end of the day I'm just some guy. Even if I were able to know all the facts, the frame I put around them would inevitably make them my own. That's why I recommend in every video that people research on their own and come to their own conclusions.

    Konami too has Yakuza roots. It kind of shows in their business policies and the treatment of their employees.

    You say the other video is earlier in the playlist but really it's later in the playlist. Any chance it can be reversed so we can watch these videos in order more easily?
