Some good information on this video. I have historically used a radial filter larger than the photo to affect the entire photo but I think the gradient filter will work better due to having the ability to affect every pixel at 100%. The radial filter does not affect every pixel at 100%.

I love these GF tips! It's so hard to get the radial filter to behave with the mouse but with the option key it froze it on the horizon! This is so helpful, and the trick with putting it off to the corner was brilliant. When you cranked up the dehaze I just loved that effect on the sky! 👍🏻

Wow great tips. All i really knew about was the shift button for straight lines and i did come across the duplicate feature recently. I duplicated and just used the second filter on another part of the pic. Never thought about using it the way you did. Also i just checked out your website. The 10 wedding tips was a good read.

Some extremely useful tips I've never seen anywhere else. Thanks! That said I am one of those holdouts who said No! when Adobe moved to the subscription model and Lightroom 6.14 lacks the all important, although admittedly limited, masking capability. Whatever else you might say about the Adobe Monolith they are indeed Clever Devils! and they have held back some truly useful features while stuffing Lightroom with useless extras that are of very limited use to serious photographers.

For using the graduated filter outside of the image, you need not start at a corner. Anywhere outside the image is fine, although the corner makes a good reference point if you use more than one such filter. Just use a different start point for each.

Hmm, I tried to follow what you showed, but when you turn on graduated filter, then hold the option key while clicking on the image, you get the red circle with the "plus" in the middle. I never get the red circle - this is with Lightroom Classic CC. Also, I never knew to use the filter the way you did - I've always clicked on the top of the sky, then dragged my cursor down to the horizon, and I got the effect I thought I wanted, darker sky near the top. Not sure why I can't do what you're showing. Tip #1 I'm struggling with. Tip #2 I will try later today, seems very useful. Not sure how or why I would use Tip #3 yet.
What I like with your videos, is that I can swap back and forth on my small MacBook between your video and Lightroom, and do what you're showing. It's easier for me when I'm home, with my two monitors. Thanks for everything you do. You have an easy-to-understand way to explain things!!!

Click on the little rectangular box to,the right of the red eye tool and to the left of the brush tool. Now when you click somewhere within the photo the 3 line graduated filter tool will appear. If it doesn't appear press the h key on your keyboard to make it visible...the "h" key toggles to hide or make visible the graduated filter tool, brush pins, etc.
