So much cooler than everybody else's picks, ever.
I was expecting these guys to show some great records and they didn't fail me.
these guys are so underrated everybody
I saw them at CBGB with Jesus Lizard and it was such an amazing experience. One of the best shows I have ever seen EVER. I went on to see JSBX about dozen times and every show was as delicious as the last
@@ItsaDaPope-a i love hearing that Josh forreal!!!! I feel like Jon Spencer band just gives and gives and gives....theyre a very generous band we're lucky to have them.....THE BLUES ARE NO. 1 !!!!!!
@@stephenkane2464 Haha! Hell YEAH!
@@ItsaDaPope-a Omg Jon Spencer and David Yow in the same show, that's insane.
Absofuckinglutely!!!
He's right, that might be the best episode.
No it's Neil Hamburger. Lol
louderthangod Eric Andre and The Melvins are great too.
Yeah they're definitely good ones!
@@stonecole4703 Lou Barlow is the best one
Saw jsbx in the early 2000s, at the 930 Club in Washington DC. Ticket price was extremely modest, and there was no such thing as a bad seat in the house. Fantastic concert and the band gave you your money's worth. These guys will always be one of my favorites. Always
Killer selection from guys who live for music like most of us freaks
They don’t even need to introduce themselves. That’s the respect they command after this long!!
Finally, a What's in My Bag worth listening to!
probably is the best episode. every other band shows you their picks but then all they do is talk about themselves and when they listen to it, and what their mood is when they hear it, blah blah blah, and nothing about the actual record
Woah, could sit down with these two and talk records all day....
it's been confirmed by me. that was the best episode.
Honestly can't even begin to say how much I love these guys.
Super cool
Choices from a super cool
Group and people ❤
Wow..I liked all of both of their selections
Jon Spencer...who STARTED the "pawn shop" off brand guitar revolution over 20 years ago...he knows more about obscure weird electric guitars from the '60s than anyone ! I was amazed to see their interest in obscure Electronica from the '60s...especially White Noise...An Electric Storm. I have a copy with an alternate cover. Delia Derbyshire was amazing....look up her life story and listen to her other stuff that survived the BBC's axe. They should make a movie about her...and it should star Nicole Kidman ! Roky Erickson and The Thirteenth Floor Elevators...need I say more !!!!!
I love JSBX and Spencer, I'm a huge fan. But it wasn't Spencer, it was Dexter Romweber of the Flat Duo Jets down in Carrboro, NC who started the pawn shop guitar thing earlier than that, back in the 1980's. Also it was Sonic Youth in NYC. Don't ask me how I know...
That great moment when one of your favorite bands likes some of your other favorite bands!! Also: it is the best episode of an amazing series!
These guys know their music. Love JSBX
A very intelligent and diverse selection of albums by Russell and Jon. I'm impressed.
The Blues is number one, and these selections are amazing. One of the best of these I've watched
Damn great choices by damn great musicians 🤘🎸🍻
Neubauten rules. If you haven't seen them live, do yourself a favor and see them before they end. Fucking fantastic!
these guys are awsome jsbx!!!!the drummer is the most underated drummer ever ...
Great guys with excellent musical tastes to match!
If Lux Interior were still alive, that would be the best episode.
1:25 the song that influenced the Futurama theme.
+bach1750 Holly shit it is
Wow, good ear. I was kinda not listening too hard to the experimental electronic music they were going on about but I listened again to that little snippet & sounds pretty cool hearing it again.
Holy SHIT. That's not an influence, that's the actual song.
Wow good ears 👍
Was pretty easy to hear it if ya ask me
BLUES EXPLOSION!!!
Best episode. I love their taste
Jon Spencer has one of the best screams in rock'n roll yep!
ahhhhhhhhhhooowww! ah! ah! ah! ah! ah! ahhhoow!
definitely the best episode
its funny I was thinking wow... this is might be the best episode... then he said it
Love these..
love this series so much
Been a fan of JSBX for years but never heard these guys in an interview. Weird to hear his natural voice when up to this point all I've heard are his fuzz-laden scats and rocknroll wails: "wheahhhhhh!....ungh!...good god!...commone now!...here we go!...that's right!...yeaaahhhhh!" :D
Russell Simims is not only a drummer, but he is the author of Comfortable Place in Roshen!
easy listening
one of the best episodes
Good Lord I have a lot to learn! Don't we all
THE BLUES IS NUMBER ONE
This is BLUES POWER!!!
Neubauten YES
5:26 That's not Delia Derbyshire, it's Liz Parker.
Fantastic. Thanks.
Blues Explosion Man, Yeah!
superb picks.
Two of the very finest gentlemen around.
Umm check there police records And then get back to me... I know we all can change .. but some things you can never fucking undo
these guys are #1!
So cool this guys
Never met Russell, but Jon is, without a doubt, the nicest rock 'n roller I've ever met. If anyone should ever be excused for being full of ego and an incredible asshole it's the man that created or helped create Dial M for Motherf*cker, Cold Hands and Extra Width.
Agreed met him at one of his solo concerts and he was working his own merch booth, signed all my blues explosion, boss hog, and pussy galore records
Delia Derbyshire didn't write the Doctor Who theme tune, as Jon implies here. Ron Grainer wrote the tune, intending it to be performed as a swashbuckling orchestral piece. Since the show's producers didn't have the budget for an orchestra, Derbyshire rearranged it for synthesizers while Grainer was on holiday.
Low budget makes it more interesting again
excellent choices -- get the partch!
Best episode? I don't know. But it has been so great. Unpredictable, surprising, interesting.
Long live Crypt Records!!!!!!
Meh... Tim Warren didnt like The Pandoras... Im not his fan anymore, since many years ago... Not that much... I like Crypt style, Have a swig... Pandoras were better than Devil Dogs, better than NB Turks...
Legends.💀🔥
Very interesting choices
Nice selections
Love the JSBX.
great picks!
Angus Maclise 'Chumlum' was an "experience" to say the least, but a very mystical one.
Great choices. ^_^
Imagine if they get Kanye on here he would probably pull out all his own albums LOL
Hahaha and trash the store if they didnt have his shoes etc
Or grab the PA and yell Tower Records is better.
Id like to show everyone my remixes
Really good tastes!
Damn, That was cool!
Diggin the bottle opener
Knowledge!
Finally a bunch of interesting guys.....I'm proud to tell I own 'Pierre Henry" and 'White Noise' respectively since '68 and 1970.....
But why does Iggy sound like he's puking ❓
It fn was the best episode
Fourth song!!!
OMG!! It's the theme tune from Futurama. Lol. Fucking loved that show. I wanted to marry Turanga Leela. Watching from London UK.
Doctor Who ??? Fuck Yeah!!!!
Hip fellas
13 floor elevator is the band that Al Jourgensen credited for sparking his use of distorted vocals
That's a billion $ bag. Blues Explosion number 1.
Re the Cosimo Matassa Story, I was pillaging the cd collections at three of my local libraries, taking out my five cd limit every week for awhile and this was one of the albums I found. Nothing lasts forever though and when I last went in they told me that I'd be the last ever borrower of a cd from them as that week the city libraries entire collection of cds and dvds was being donated to the local prison.
My 2 biggest periods of musical growth were 5 years of working in a record store in the early '90s & building an immense & diverse collection of mixed tapes & cds from the Denver Public Libraries. What a blessing!
holy shit!
Russel has GREAT TASTE
Jon autographed a dollar bill for me in 2004
Russell Simins is Sam from WKUK
Hey, obscure artists. I'm gonna love this episode!! /sarc
Good episode but that's not a photo of Delia Derbyshire it's (the massively under-rated) Elizabeth Parker.
Good catch, you are absolutely correct. Ms. Derbyshire is in the first image and Ms. Parker is in the second.
Those guys are still so fucking cool. Love them.
I would love to see a Johnny Thunders what's in my bag but unfortunately that won't happen.
angel Olsen what's in my bag please!!
+Conal Lewis We've invited her before and the scheduling didn't work out. Hopefully it can happen in the future.
ok cool, thanks for replying
Wat bout Bree Olson???
These are the ultimate patrician
I want to pillage Russell's record collection
20 years ago these guys were the shit
Great choices from a great band (or two thirds of a great band). However, the photo at 5' 25" is of another Radiophonic composer, Elizabeth Parker, not Delia Derbyshire!
Is there a list of these albums? It's hard to pick out from the soundtrack
What is the story on Jon Spencer and crew getting with the Mississippi Delta Blues guys a number of years ago?
5:25 -> not Delia, but Elizabeth Parker.
The Doctor Who theme is amazing.
Cosimo Mattasa Story - check. $19.98 for the 4 cd box set on Amazon. Awritey!
Futurama theme song is AVANT ELECTRIC
何よ? いい感じに仕上がってるぢゃないのよ。 日本にきてよ。マジで。
ジョンスペのセレクトは理解できるけど、ラッセルのセレクトがかなりキテる!!!!
Nothing will top this episode. EVER.
I wish they could get Albert Kuvezin from Yat-Kha to do an episode.
What's the story on why these guys broke up? The only thing I could find was an interview where Jon said: “There were just circumstances which made it impossible to continue working,” Spencer says. “It was very unfortunate, especially since we were in the middle of promoting that last album. It was a real blow. It took me awhile to mourn that and get over it, but I’m moving on.”
Well I guess it's been 3 years but at least an official announcement was made about it a week or two ago. Judah Bauer has some kind of condition or ailment that prevents him from playing music in the capacity required to continue onward.
In spite of that, I will state quite frankly, the Blues remains #1.
MacLise was kicked out of VU. That's why he "left" the group.
damn, he really called that Stockhausen
monsters dudes - one better than the other
Gee, I wonder if these guys are from the NYC area???
Amoeba, could you try Amon Tobin, please!
We have tried and it didn't work out. Maybe someday... We're huge fans.
Okay, thanks.
