We've made it to the beautiful city of Hội An in Vietnam and today we're eating only Vietnamese food for the entire day! This is our first time properly trying authentic Vietnamese food and we can't wait.
To start off we are having one of Vietnam's most popular foods, a Banh Mi sandwich. Anthony Bourdain called Banh My Phuong's mixed Banh Mi (Banh Mi Thap Cam) his favourite Banh Mi so we decided to head there. At Banh Mi Phuong we try both the mixed Banh Mi sandwich and the chicken Banh Mi.
For our second dish we try one that can only be found in Hoi An called Cao Lau. It can only be found in Hoi An because supposedly a main ingredient is water from a well called Ba Le. Ours was with pork but supposedly it can be made with shrimp, the rice noodles soaked in lye water, and then you add herbs, fresh greens and bean sprouts. We found our Cao Lau at Mi Quang Ong Hai (Mr. Hai Noodles).
Next up on our list we headed to one of the many coffee shops in Hoi An, Raw Coffee. For the first time here we tried the very popular Egg Coffee. Egg coffee is made with combining egg yolk and sweetened condensed milk, poured over coffee.
For our last stop we went to the very popular restaurant in Hoi An, Morning Glory. We had a few dishes here. Hoi An has its own version of Chicken Rice (a popular dish in Singapore), but made with shredded chicken called Cơm Gà Hoi An (Hoi An Chicken Rice). We tried that as well as some chicken and ginger dumplings (Banh Hap Nhan Gà) and fried pork spring rolls (Cha Gio).

Thanks for watching! 🤗 - Anna
the chicken is probably a "ga ta" which is Vietnamese chicken, something similar to a free range chicken in the west instead of barn raised chicken. It's a tougher meat which the Viet prefers.
Oh good to know. It's such a different texture than what we're used to but it's still very good - Anna
Gà ta means farm raised chicken
@@DelightfulTravellers Basically the chicken have been worked out lol
You should try many types of coffee in Vietnam, such as traditional milk coffee, white coffee and especially coconut coffee. With food I honestly cant suggest you enough food to try because there are so many great foods in Vietnam, a solid 30 days with the local is definitely a way to enjoy great variety of authentic foods.
We've tried some of that coffee you mentioned in other videos. Definitely check those out 🤗 - Anna
The chicken is a bit chewy (not super soft like the chicken in the U.S.) because the chicken was not raised in a cage but they let it walk around to develop muscles. Vietnamese like this chicken better. They call it "Gà Ta" meaning domestic chicken. The chicken was cooked using its own fat that's why it is a bit wet. :)
Thanks for letting us know Tuan - Anna
True organic chicken
For Vietnamese people, they rarely eat meat from industrial production. They like to eat meat and natural foods that have a delicious taste for health.
I was already super interested in a trip to Vietnam. You two have increased the desire to visit exponentially.
Love hearing that! Thanks - Anna
Thank you so much! We appreciate the kind words 🤗 - Anna
The chicken in vietnam are chewier & leaner (most vietnamese prefer these), because they are either organic or home-raised cage-free chickens. Common chickens in the west are raised in cages, thats why their meat are soft & fatty.
Hoi An is known as the Venice of the East. Hoi An is an ideal far away land - exotic, beautiful, and seemingly right out of a fairy tale. As the moment you step into Hoi An, it feels like a book of ancient fairy tales came to life. Hoi An is breathtaking by day, but it really comes to life by night when the streets are lit up with beautiful lanterns. Noted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999, Hoi An is a magical place. There is no equal globally.
We can't wait to share the next video where we go exploring! - Anna
Great video guys! Loved it. Keep them coming
Thank you so much 😊 lots more on the way! - Anna
Absolutely LOVE your food reviews. Thank you.
We so appreciate that 🙏 We have a lot of fun filming (and eating) all the yummy food - Anna
I love the addition of greens at every meal. Considering that a small bunch of mint is going for $4 here in Canada I would just enjoy them as much as I can! Thank you for another great video ☺️👌
We luv it too... and the prices here. wow - Anna
all that food looked so good!! can't wait to see where you are off to next!!
So good Taki! We’ll be exploring more of the city in the next one 🤗 - Anna
Trevor’s excited little face when the food arrives 😂😂 Enjoyed the walkabout too…..Hoi An looks fabulous.
I was really really hungry 😂 - Trevor
@@DelightfulTravellers🤣
As always, the delightful food presentation makes me start wandering the web to see what restaurants near me will deliver that kind of food! Looking forward to more from Vietnam! 😎
Hopefully you found one MapMan! haha - Trevor
You two made some delicious looking choices! Wow! I think the spring rolls would have been #1 on my list as well! As always great video guys! ~Cara 😊
All the food was so delicious but those spring rolls were incredible 🤗 - Anna
Cô giáo Mây thật chu đáo... Tết có nhạc mới thành mùa Xuân...!! Chúc Cô giáo năm nay cũng được Long Phụng sum vầy nhé...!!!❤👍
I love Vietnamese food in general. Neat flavor and textures.
🤤
It is hard to find good banh xeo abroad so this is a dish that you should try while in Vietnam.
After watching Ha Long video I have waited for Hoi An is your next destination. You guys absolutely came to Hoi An. Hope both of you have more time here to enjoy your holiday and explore Hoi An's cuisines.
We luv Hoi An so far... we'll be exploring more in the next video - Anna
I am getting hungry with your video. Yumyumyum!
Man, I miss Hoian banh mi…the best! Nice food review video. Planning to go back to Vietnam next year. Enjoy your trip!
My goodness...you guys have my mouth watering, and I am full from dinner! I love Vietnamese food, but actually have never had a Banh Mi sandwich before. You guys have me gung ho on trying one! I love Hoi An. I was there in 2009. I can't wait for your next video! 😎
We absolutely luv this kind of food as well. Now you’ll have to find yourself a Banh Mi somewhere 🤗 - Anna
I see that you noticed there's a lot of pork and chicken in our cuisine but beef is limited. There were times in our history when cattle were protected for farm works (Ly dynasty & Vietnam war) and the slaughter of cows was considered an illegal act with serious punishment.
Oh fun, we ate at the Morning Glory too..loved it. I have peanut and gluten allergies so eating is difficult but I always found something. Our tour guide took us on a bike ride on the outskirts of Hoi An, that was awesome!
Such a great spot right? We can't wait to show more of the city in the next video 🥰 - Anna
The chickens in VN are chewy because it’s natural. They let the chickens walk, cage free, No growth hormones. The price is much higher in the U.S. for these chickens.
good video
from vietnam with love
Thank you for sharing this beautiful video. I wish I can be there. HOI AN is recognized by UNESCO as the World Heritage town. “Banh Mi” is the reason why McDonald is not popular in Vietnam 🇻🇳. There are McDonald in the country but only a few. Have fun and stay safe !
Now that you say that, we've not seen a single McDonalds anywhere. Interesting! - Trevor
@@DelightfulTravellers . You can find McDonald in Ho Chi Minh city and in the capital Hanoi. If I am not mistaken there are only 4 or 5 McDonalds in the country. It’s the same with Starbucks. There are only 2 or 3 Starbucks. The same fate as McDonald , Starbucks is not popular in Vietnam. These two places are catering for tourists. However when the tourists taste “ Banh mi “ and Vietnamese coffees. They turned away from these two companies.
@@tompham637 good to know wouldn’t want to eat the McDonald’s junk and terrible Starbucks coffee anyways.
Great video cheers !🍺
Thanks Joe! - Trevor
That looks delicious 😋
It was 👌
This is making me soooo hungry!
Sorry about that haha 😜 - Trevor
Very nice to walk again in Vietnam through a beautiful virtual video! ❤❤ Have a nice weekend friend.👍👍 Love from India
Thank you very much! - Anna
Wonderful video and you made me so hungry 😋 lol.
🇨🇦🇨🇦👍👍😋💕
The chicken is a bit chewy because it's free range,, raised without hormones or antibiotics. It has more muscle fibers and taste better. Western chickens are caged and fed with copious amount of growth hormones. Vietnam chickens take about 20 weeks to bring to market versus 12 weeks
We have lots of free range chicken in Canada dzu... it's not this kind of texture 🤷🏻 - Trevor
@@DelightfulTravellers yeah, it’s not the free range, it’s different type of chicken ( ga ta or domestic chicken ) . My parents love them, I used to eat them a lot when i was a kid. Now I live in the
US and I prefer the US kind. In vietnam, it calls western chicken lol.
There's a historical story to the "egg coffee". In 1948 there was a shortage of milk in Vietnam, so the vietnamese people used eggs as a replacement for milk to be added to their coffee. Coffee is part of the vietnamese food culture.
What a story and we did not know that at all. Thanks for sharing that - Anna
Tuyệt vời! Chúc các bạn du lịch vui vẻ ở Việt Nam!
Vietnamese food is good especially in central Vietnam. You guys need to visit Hue! There are many dishes exclusive to Hue. We love it!
Thanks😍
That's hot mint ( Vietnamese coriander) with your chicken and rice! You can buy at homedepot in bc .
Best bánh mì and best spring rolls in your life? Wow, definitely gonna visit those places in Hoi An! 😋
Yes! Haha 😂
Welcome to beautiful Vietnam .
🥰
The thing that I like Banh Mi in Vietnam more than anywhere in the world is they make it right in the store. Therefore, you get fresh Banh Mi right from the oven. Beside beers, Vietnamese drink coffee anytime and anywhere in the day.
Best Banh Mi ever! - Trevor
I love egg coffee as well! I haven't had it from Vietnam though. I made it myself haha. I'd say the more you mix, the more strong it becomes. And if you don't want to undo all the hard work that goes into whipping it, I'd drink it like a cappuccino.
Đói bụng quá,ngon!
Wow, you know, Vietnam has never really been on my bucket list, but after seeing these videos I just might have to add it! 😍 Did you guys film your accommodations?
Put it right at the top of your travel list Jiji 😀 Yes we filmed some of our accommodations here. Check the last video and the 2nd video of the series - Trevor
@@DelightfulTravellers Will do!! (Oh, I meant your "new" accommodation, but from your answer I gather you probably stayed in the same hotel on that island...) Anyway, ENJOY!!!
Great video
I hope CZcams sends you all the money and the algorithm works in your favor
🙏
Beautiful video 👌 📹 ❤
🤙
You have traveled to Ha Long, Nha Trang, Hoi An, I predict your next destination is Da Nang, really thank you for promoting Vietnam tourism to the world❤️.
🤗
Delightful Travellers have been making Delightful Vids. 😃. Thanks for share.
🥰
They are using organic chicken a lot in Hoi An area and in general as well
We found it was the same style throughout the country 🤷🏻♀️ - Anna
The story of egg coffee; there were a time no milk is for coffee, and used egg yoke instead milk! OMG !! LOL !!
Wow guys the food looked so delicious! Is it really hot there and have you acclimatized to it? Have a great time, take care.
It’s very hot but we are well prepared form being in the DR so long 😀 - Anna
If you don’t like hot weather, I suggest visiting 2 mountains cities in vietnam that is popular with tourists Sa pa and Da Lat. the weather is cooler there, around 70 to 80F or 20 to 25’C. Sa pa do snow sometimes in winter time.
chào mừng bạn đến việt nam
cau lao is the best and only avail in hoi an, the crunchy bits are apparently fried rice noodle, so tasty, in 2020, our tour guide told us the price of pork was about $5 a kilo, chicken was $10, so that's why you see so much pork around
When you two are at the My Quang and Cao Lau place, the crispy thing is not made of bread but it's pork skin :) The texture is probably confusing 😁
Wecome to Việt Nam
just realize you 2 came from Canada, thank you sharing your journey !
Thanks for watching!
Lovessss
🤗
I'm Vietnam's.I love Vietnam
Thank you sharing 👍❤️😃
🤗
Really good video 👍👍ciao from friends in italy 🇮🇹🇮🇹
Thank you very much!
I'd recommend going to the street areas and getting banh mi from the vendors! Not saying it's better, (: well~ but super tasty.
Cha Gio is eggrolls! Spring rolls are made with rice paper. (: Try wrapping them in lettuce and dipping in fish sauce next time. Game changer!!
Tuyệt vời
1 great video
Glad you enjoyed it 🤗 - Anna
Komodo island...labuan bajo...le perate island hotel...
So yummy
🤤
Love it. I want to go there just to shop and try all the food. Not expensive at all. Your coffee cost more then your sandwich or noodles lol. Would love to see the shopping and the beaches/water. Thanks and Cheers!!
Haha glad you noticed coffee costing more! Crazy right? - Trevor
because chicken eggs only use yolks , and not all types of eggs can be used , so it is a bit expensive bro ak
TRY THE MI QUANG IN DA NANG CITY . IT IS 20 MINUTES FROM HOI AN
Beatifulll view..... 👍
Food looks delicious nice walk.. 😍
Try to come to Indonesia, travel to the island of BALI.... 👌👌👌
We have Bali videos on our channel. Check them out - Anna
Vietnamese likes to eat free ranch chickens. The chicken meat texture is chewier and has less fat.
Good to know but we have free range chicken in Canada that doesn't have that texture 🤷🏻 - Trevor
Excellent video! We have amazing Vietnam food here in the Toronto area - have tried most of the dishes that you tried. No greens on the table though in all the restaurants we have visited here. I don't think Vietnamese greens are grown here (maybe just in Summer months) and they don't travel well.
Let us know where to go in TO for Vietnamese food Michael! - Anna
@@DelightfulTravellers - Ossington area - Golden Turtle & Pho Tien Than, Pho 90 (Weston Rd.), Pho Metro (Scarborough), Pho Linh (Brockton Village), Pinky's Ca Phe (Little Italy), Hanoi 3 Seasons (Leslieville), Mi Mi Restaurant (Gerrard St.). Hihi, it's natural raise chicken. It's chewy and delicious. That's how Vietnamese love theirs chicken.
Good to know! - Anna
That was the Vietnamese Chicken "Ga Ta", a bit chewy good texture and tasty, and more expensive than the Western/ US chicken.
Thanks for the info! - Trevor

Hi DeLightfuL TraveLLers🧢👒
That taste good with fresh egg. My version, I put 🥑, powdered or fresh miLk, coffee creamer, my DIY coffee mixed to different coffee fLavors, hot water, and fresh egg. With my invention, it came out warm and NATURALLY tasty.

FYI. In 2017 Minh Mat in Stockholm became the first place outside Vietnam to serve Cao Lau. :)
well come to Việt Nam , come to Phú Quốc island 🤗
We're so happy to be here! 🤗 - Anna
If you visit New York, San Francisco or Los Angeles, you can eat all the food listed in your video. Have you tasted coconut worm yet?
hello guy, where are you living in vietnam, my home is in halong city, but i'm working in japan for 4 year. thank you for coming to vietnam
Try “Bún Đậu mắm tôm “ my friend
We will keep an eye out for it! - Anna
Wish I would have watched this before I went 🤷♂️
That’s free range organic Chicken
Also Hoi An is a little on the touristy side so prices of food is going to be a little more expensive. Da Nang food should be a little cheaper
The cost of Cơm gà you had seem to be doubled in Hội An. Places that tourists comes usually cost much more than outside where ordinarily locals people live!
Drinking egg coffee reminds me in the movies Rocky Balboa, Sylvester Stallone drank before Philadelphia run. With all the fat, protein in the egg, you should go the gym to build more muscles.
Do some hotpot
Almost Vietnamese prefer cooked chicken au point, that is the meat is cooked but remained firm, therefore it is a bit chewy. Boiled American chicken tends to get so soft and bland, lacking the meat's sweetness, unlike VN chicken. Love your enthusiasm about the food presented in this clip.
Have you guys tried the Dominican world best sandwiches ( chimis churry)
I don't think so.. where can we find it in the DR? - Anna
Interested in learning more on chimis churry…
