1:58 and 4:15 James' vocals are on cue, then he blows them it seems on purpose. Why is this? Your fans deserve an explanation. Can we not handle the mighty Hetfield vocals, you shifting the direction around that time? What was it. We've lost many years of post Black Album glory days, and this looks malicious as if you did it on purpose.
He could only handle that style in bursts.

Something I read years ago was that James had to get vocal therapy and possibly medical attention because the way he was singing through the Black album was causing him to have singing problems. He had to change how he sang so as not to completely destroy his vocal chords. I believe around Load (96’) and later he’s been singing more like this video and this may be when he was getting used to the new way initially. Plus if your adrenaline gets too high while performing it can affect your voice and cause you to lose power, tone, and pitch. Happened to me multiple times lol. That’s why being relaxed actually is very good for musical performance 😎🤘🏻
He's not in his 20's anymore, those are just the consequences of pushing it too hard in the early days. Of course, if he had a choice, he'd probably like to be able to sing like he used to, but that's just not a possibility anymore.
