  • "Labor Day would be incomplete without a parade," says the script for the September 1, 1952 WTVJ-4 evening newscast. "It was the members of the Longshoremen's Union who provided the manpower."
"Five hundred members pf the Longshoremen's Union held a Labor Day parade this morning on Third Avenue. In the line of march were two floats, two bands, a lift truck and several tractors, the working identification marks of the union members. There were no uniforms as such, just a longshoreman's everyday working clothes."
"What the parade lacked in numbers and fancy decorations the marchers made up in spirit and determination. Yes, everyone loves a parade, and the longshoremen's union members held one in Miami today -- their contribution to this Labor Day of 1952."
