    __________
Weekly cleaning is recommended to keep your Vicks Warm Mist Humidifier running efficiently.
Before cleaning, turn off, unplug and wait 20 to 30 minutes for the unit to cool before cleaning.
All maintenance should be done in the kitchen or bathroom on a flat, water-resistant surface near a faucet.
Empty the water tank and medicine cup and set aside.
Next, remove the Mist Chimney by pulling the blue latch towards the front of the unit, and lift straight up.
Then, remove the Water Tray by lifting from the tab and empty the water.
Replace the Water Tray and Mist Chimney. These must be in place for cleaning.
Next, follow these separate steps for descaling and disinfecting. Both steps are important and must be performed separately.
Slowly pour 2 cups of undiluted, distilled white vinegar into the reservoir where it will drain into the heading chamber.
Soak for twenty minutes to loosen mineral build-up on the Heating Element.
After soaking, remove the Mist Chimney.
    Remove the heating Element Cover.
Wet the bristles of a soft brush with vinegar and gently scrub the heating element, and other parts to remove mineral deposits.
If scale is still visible, moisten a paper towel with vinegar and wrap it around the heating element. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes or until scale loosens.
Remove the paper towel and scrub off any remaining scale.
Next, remove the Water Tray and empty the vinegar into the sink and rinse until the smell of vinegar is gone.
Replace the Water Tray in the base.
Replace the heating element cover and lock the mist chimney in place to begin the disinfecting process.
Use gloves while performing the disinfecting process.
Mix a half gallon of water with a half teaspoon of bleach and pour the solution into the water tank.
Replace the tank cap and gently swish to wet the inside of the tank.
Place the water tank on the base so the solution drains into the reservoir and soak for 20 minutes.
After soaking, remove the Water Tank and carefully empty the bleach solution into the sink and rinse with water until the smell of bleach is gone.
Carefully remove the mist chimney and set aside.
Empty the solution from the Water tray, and rinse until the smell of bleach is gone.
Remove the Heating Element Cover and rinse
And wipe the heating element until the smell of bleach is gone.
To clean the scent pad compartment, simply wipe the area gently with a soft damp cloth.
To reassemble, place the Water Tray in the base
Attach the Heating Element Cover and secure the Mist Chimney.
With the Tank Cover securely closed, replace the Water Tank back on the Base.
    Your humidifier is now clean.

My recommendation is to do the vinegar and the bleach on different days. The presenter is not exactly accurate to suggest waiting until the smell goes away. The smell is not what is relevant. The presence of the fluid is what matters. The chemical reaction between them will happen even if you can't smell them.
Since they have different purposes, there ought not to be a problem to do these on different days. Vinegar, followed by water, is a good disinfectant as well as a descaler. Bleach takes disinfection to a different level, but if you have no more deposits, it is fine to do the bleach solution cycle by itself at a different time. What I actually recommend is that bleach solution in a spritzer. ON a diffrent day, pull out the chimney assembly and spritz the unit. Paper towel it off and there you go.
I work in the food industry, and we would never ever have a procedure chain where we followed a vinegar cleaning with a bleach cleaning.

Hey LL. We're sorry to hear you had this experience. Cleaning the unit should not take four hours. If you have a lot of mineral buildup on the heating element you can soak it with vinegar longer, such as several hours or overnight. This will help to loosen any mineral build up. You may then gently scrub the heating element with a soft brush to remove the mineral deposits.

I've done the process you mentioned with the vinegar soaking and then since there was more left I soaked it with a paper towel. I've soaked it a total of 40 mins now. 20 mins each time and there is still white hard gunk on the gray part. I guess what you call descaling. I'm soaking it another 20 mins in the paper towel with vinegar making it now an hour of soaking. *PLEASE* advise. This is a new mode and has only been used a week.

We are sorry to hear that. The tank cap should be easy to unscrew. If you are having difficulty unscrewing the cap, we would suggest pressing in the spring valve to break the vacuum seal the unit creates, or using a soft contact wrench (adjustable rubber strap) to gently unscrew the cap. @@vickshumidifiersthermomete2655 I agree with this suggestion! I'm trying to clean mine after not using it for a couple of months and I'm sure there is dust trapped in the chimney. It's incredibly disappointing knowing that I can't clean it because it is directly attached to the electrical component of the humidifier. I don't feel comfortable using it anymore without being able to clean (or at least wipe down) the area that directly handles the air. I really hope that for future products, you'll consider separating the wiring components from the sections that directly supply the air.

If you’ve never done it before, here’s the step-by-step… if you want the dead simple instructions they’re listed after the first set below:
    Clean Vicks humidifier (step-by-step)
    Prep
    1. Remove water tank + medicine cup and empty contents
    2. Remove mist chimney
    3. Remove water tray and empty
    4. Reattach water tray and mist chimney to base
Descale the water tray and heating element
    1. Pour 2 cups white vinegar into reservoir of water tray and let soak 20 min
    2. Remove mist chimney and scrub heating element and cover with a brush dipped in vinegar from tray to remove scale - for stubborn scale, repeat scrubbing after wrapping a vinegar soaked paper towel around the heating element for 30+ minutes
    3. Dump vinegar from water tray and rinse until the vinegar smell disappears
Sanitize the water tank, water tray, and heating element
    1. Mix 1/2 gallon water + 1/2 teaspoon bleach into water tank
    2. Replace water tank cap and swish to coat the inside of water tank
    3. Reattach water tank to base and water bleach solution will drain into water tray. Let soak 20 minutes
    4. Empty water tank and rinse until bleach smell disappears
    5. Remove mist chimney and empty contents of water tray
    6. Rinse water tray + heating element cover until bleach smell disappears (repeat this process except with a damp cloth for the heating element itself)
    7. Reassemble unit
    --
    Simple version
    1. Disassemble and dump out all contents and put the tray and mist chimney back on
    2. Dump 2 cups vinegar into tray and soak 20min
    3. Scrub the really scaly parts / soak with paper towel + vinegar
    4. Dump it out / rinse
    5. Sanitize everything by swishing 1/2tsp bleach + 1/2 gal water in water tank then reattach
    6. Soak for 30 min
    7. Rinse tank, water tray, and heating cover and dab the heating element w/ wet paper towel til smell gone

It was a big mistake buying this Humidifier. The cleaning is a daunting and time consuming task. After a couple of weeks of usage, the scales wouldn't completely go off the heating element even if I soak it with Vinegar for more than an hour.. So I use a scissor and try to scrub it off. Even then some of the scales wouldn't come off. Also, when I pick this one up from the floor to clean up, even if I am being very careful and hold it straight, it starts leaking. It is a big concern as the floor is wooden. I have no idea from where it's leaking. One day I saw that there was some water underneath it (No idea how it leaked) and the wooden panels on that part had bulged. I deeply regret buying this one. Can I get a refund? I can send this back to you guys.. I am fed up.. This past week I moved to a new house where there is not enough space to keep the humidifier with the Vinegar. So I kept in in my room and when I picked it up, it leaked the vinegar in my room. I have no idea how to clean this thing anymore.. Such a bad decision. Can I get a refund? This doesn’t say how to clean inside the mist chimney, and the bottom is screwed on.

    • @vickshumidifiersthermomete2655
      @vickshumidifiersthermomete2655  Před rokem

We will be happy to provide that information. The Mist Chimney does not come apart, and only water steam is passing through it. When cleaning the unit, after the descaling and disinfecting procedures, if you are not going to use the unit again right away, we would advise leaving the mist chimney in a place where it can dry out internally. If you have any other questions, please email our support team at SocialSupport@helenoftroy.com and we will be happy to assist you.

The vinegar does not remove the build up stuck in the heating element even after soaking it for hours..what else can be done?? This is frustrating to use!!

    • @vickshumidifiersthermomete2655
      @vickshumidifiersthermomete2655  Před rokem +1

Hey H Felipe. We're sorry to hear you had this experience. If you have a lot of mineral build up or soaking the heating element with vinegar for 20-30 minutes is not sufficient to loosen the mineral buildup, we'd recommend soaking the heating element longer, such as several hours or overnight. Then, use a soft bristled brush, such as a toothbrush, to remove the mineral buildup after it has been soaked. We hope this information is helpful! For additional assistance, please email us at SocialSupport@helenoftroy.com.

That is a good question Kimberly. We would not advise cleaning the unit with apple cider vinegar. We would suggest getting cleaning vinegar from the grocery store cleaning isle. Hey GypsyJody. Please be advised, we only advise cleaning the unit using undiluted distilled white vinegar for scale removal and the bleach solution for disinfecting, as instructed in the owners manual. We cannot recommend using wipes to descale / disinfect this humidifier. We hope this is helpful. For additional assistance, please reach out to us by emailing SocialSupport@helenoftroy.com.

Vicks Humidifiers & Thermometers thank you it’s all clean now 🙂 was lot of limescale which I think was residue I was seeing ! The white vinegar worked a treat I will definitely be cleaning it more often! And just a tip ! Please do NOT place these on your wooden furniture as it’s damaged the top of my beautiful oak blanket box less than 18 mth old despite using a towel doubled up underneath! I’ve only had my humidifier 3 months and used it about a dozen times There’s little air vents in the bottom too please be warned !

Hi Bella, the reason this unit needs cleaning is that most water contains minerals. These minerals are left behind when the water is turned into steam, keeping the minerals in one place to clean.

My original intention for this humidifier was to use it for plants that require high moisture levels. After using it in my room, czcams.com/users/postUgkxtD9aJ2m6GU-X1IChQxjn9l31K1A7Kpwj however, I think that's where it is going to stay in the fall and winter season at least. The increased humidity in my room made the room warmer and more comfortable. I had first ran the humidifier for 4 hours with the timer setting for it. After the first hour, I checked my room and can feel the difference. When the full 4 hours was up, I checked again and noticed that the humidifier was shut off as it is suppose to. The moisture level never seem to get passed 56/57%. I then let it run until all the water is used up, which it wasn't all used up. There are still some left in the base that you are not suppose to add water to. I filled up the water tank all the way again, being careful when removing it from the base. Some left over water may spill out. After putting it back on and setting the unit to auto, I let it operate. It didn't stop running, rather I don't know if it did at any point since I didn't check it regularly, for 24 hours after which the water in the tank ran out. The moisture reading never passed 56/57%, which may be a good thing for me. Being situated right next to my bed, the noise was not very noticeable with the occasional water gurgle from time to time as the unit ran.
