Despite being a Yank and despite the ‘new’ AFF (which is solid), I found the new games based on the original FF RPG are better still. Troika! is likely the biggest but Spellzard! Is wonderfully total FF and super rules-lite and just what the original FF RPG may ought be today…and it is!
This Yank highly recommends it!
I hope you explore it and enjoy it!
Cheers! 🙂
Thanks I shall look into them
I found my old Advanced Fighting Fantasy books just the other week, I've got some great memories of playing with friends as a kid.
Its a really fun streamlined system where you can just play with mates have fun without being bogged down by rules
Never played the advanced variation, but the Fighting Fantasy books, such as the Warlock of Firetop Mountain and The Forest of Doom I've practically worn out back in the day. There's something odd about the system that makes me love it so much, even if it isn't very complicated. I suspect it's the art from the books that always made it feel special to me. Nowadays Fighting Fantasy is all about the nostalgia to me, though I've been eyeing at the Advanced Fighting Fantasy rule book. Maybe one of these days I'll finally end up snatching a copy to read.
I can highly recommend the advanced book from arion games, next month I'm going to be doing a video on their blacksand book. It's fantastic
While I went through most of the FF books (and, I believe, all of the Sorcery ones) I have never played it as a full RPG. I have recently played Warlock (traitor edition), though, and been told by veterans if feels very similar. Might give this a go as well. Thanks for sharing.
YEah the second edition is stillavailable and Graham supports it really well.
Very nice flip through!Beautifully illustrated books. love the medical helmet in the background!
The art in these books is great. Still after all these years I love looking at them.
Amazing system! Would love to se a playthrough. 🤘🙂
Hopefully one day soon i can get a game of it on the channel.
Just finished this video. Thanks! Those old books look cool. Sad to see that you never revisited AFF (at least, not that I could find).
Just picked up a current Bundle of Holding that includes 2e so I'm searching around on CZcams for videos about it.
I've just done a blacksand video and I do have more AFF videos planned this year!
Hey I got that AFF Bundle of Holding too ✌️
Hello I love your videos and I have a Fighting Fantasy book's related question: I am french and I recently discovered the UK version of The warlock of firetop mountain and I was wondering if the rules depicted in this 2nd Edition Advanced Fighting Fantasy RPG book could be used to, how can I say, play this warlock of firetop mountain with the advanced rules ? Thank you for your videos once again keep up the good work
Bonjour! If you wanted to play Warlock of Firetop Mountain with 2nd Edition Advanced Fighting Fantasy they have a book for it : www.drivethrurpg.com/product/196633/Warlock-of-Firetop-Mountain
Its kind of weird to see a rpg in a normal sized paperback format
I liked the idea that its a minimalist system based on just 2 six sided dice and dispenses with some rpg norms that combat turn order is by context and not some dice roll for initiative. I think tables for weapon damage is too clunky
In terms of overall ststem Call Of Cthulhu is the gold standard. Itwould be interesing to see an aff horror version but i guess it wouldnt be hard to modify the base system
Yeah it's weird to have paperback sized rpg rules but also kind of cool. They made taking them into school easier
Man I remember these, and trying to wrangle some friends into playing them.
What WD issue is that army picture from on the wall behind you? Any reason it's up there? And what army is it?!
Love fighting fantasy. Agree with you the movie system was immersion breaking though.
Haha you are the first person to ask about that. It's a wood elf army from the 90s army book. Models I have loved since I first saw them, so no real reason for it to be there other than I find it nice to look at.
Whilst I never liked the movie thing I get it and it could of made it a unique game but it just never geled for me.
@@TheBattlinBarrowGaming Ah cool! Love the channel. Also looking forward to the card game.
Too many die rolls.
