I've just started ERP for my checking OCD - I haven't jumped in completely, I've started with small, more manageable things and, while that might not be the best way to go about it, having success with these small things definitely makes me feel stronger. For example, I will still check major things (or at least, major to me) such as doors being locked, but I can resist the urge to check that I've turned the light off in the garage. I've sat with the anxiety and actually felt it spike and then diminish which, I have to say, is an AWESOME feeling!

It worked for my son when he was in grade school! He managed very well until now at age 26, covid, fear, changes, isolation triggered it. It’s severely impacting his life again. (Depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, can’t work, completely controlled by OCD) can’t find a councillor to help him!!!!! There’s a shortage of of specialists in our area, so they have sent him to councillors that are not trained at all in exposure therapy. He’s living in hell and no one cares enough to even return my calls. At a loss! 😓

This is soo true. I like the grass theory ! We are stronger than OCD even tho it tells us that we are not strong and we have to think about it. We do not have to think about it or do any of the rituals. We have uncertainties and confusion like he was saying but we must ovoid it because it is just OCD. This guy is soo good and therapicual at explaining stuff. Please keep posting good content up. Congrats on your dedication and consistent on these videos 🙏🙌

Three years ago I did LSD and during the trip I decided I no longer had OCD and began touching things no human should ever touch, just to prove a point. Next morning when I regained my grasp on the reality and I realized what I had done, it threw me into a year long severe OCD cycle. You are correct, it has to be done under a trained specialist supervision, exposure that is done because you're so mad at OCD and you begin touching and licking toilet seats is a super unhealthy practice.

Hi Nathan! I'm trying to get rid of OCD in 2 years already (if not more), i watched a lot of videos and i know how OCD works and that with every compulsion it becomes more bad. One time i manage to do ERP and not giving reaction pretty well, but then other days my will power goes to zero and i can't do anything against OCD but only compulsions compulsions and compulsions, even if i understand that i do steps back. I feel how something huge blocks me from preventing responce. I'm getting able to stop reacting only when i really will get tired of doing a lot of compulsions in a cycle, then again i start to get some better days and then soon again like no any success was, zero of will power and days are going bad. I feel like this cycle of ups and downs is going for more than one year. I remember there was some period of time when i felt better and my OCD situation overall was better, i felt myself more free and i felt strong against my fears. I'm not sure when exactly it went down again, but now i feel that it's super bad again, i can't work properly, all these silly thoughts in my head distract me and they push me to keep doing rituals. The problem is that my brain makes these silly thoughts so strong and scary, it gives me phrases or scenes / ideas and then makes me feel like i asked god to make them real, while i didn't, i'm not really religious person and i understand that they are just silly thoughts, but they still bring me SUPER STRONG fear of that all that can happen because my brain mentions god in my phrases with other very bad kind of content. I'm trying to do ERP but simply can't prevent reaction because everything in my head yells that this stuff will happen if i will not re-do my previous action with trying to not have these thoughts. Please, any kind of advice would be really appreciated.

what if a person has ocd after exposure? oh if my hands are dirty or something sticky is on it, oh is it sperm? etc
if i dont wash my hands, and hand shake with my big brother, will he get sick?
sometimes i ask my brother that my hands were dirty go wash your hands
ocd after exposure gets worse and creates another ocd

What would be the compulsion when you have sensorimotor breathing ocd? Shall l just let be the thought and purposely focus on my breathing but for how long? I 3months already and anxiety is very high. I try to tell my self that l want to focus on my breathing and l like it but after difficult night, l wake up in huge stress again. I'm working and at times l do not think about the breath but when it comes is almost as its telling me to breathe manually. I will have a therapy soon but if you just can advise what is the compulsion here..what am l doing wrong?

I’m trying to go clean up my storage space. If you won’t get out of the car (months and months of same avoidance behavior along with hundreds and hundreds of dollars wasted) then how can you make a new path if you compulsively avoid even starting. Like a deer in headlights just frozen in place. Sit there for hours and hours and then drive off. You say it so easily like it’s easy to get out of the car or it’s simple to stop the avoiding. There is no danger narrative. Maybe this is a different issue but it feels like o c d to me. It’s been 4 years of this since my house burned down.
