  • When we do something good we get to thinking of ourselves as pretty good people, and can then give ourselves license to fail to live up to our own ethical standards. This phenomenon is known as moral equilibrium. For free teaching and learning resources related to this topic, visit bit.ly/1QE962g.

Really interesting video. I'd like to apply this to the covid situation. People who were willing to wear masks that were labelled that they weren't for prevention of disease - they were called 'good people'. Those of us who couldn't or wouldn't were labelled 'bad people'.
So I think you're saying that the shaming and harassment of those of us who refused to do such things - the people who obeyed considered themselves 'good people' who had 'moral license' to harass 'the bad people'. Am I using the concept correctly?
I was shouted at on a city bus for not wearing a mask. despite having an exemption card hanging around my neck. The guy had his mask on and got indignant with me. Then I held my card up to his face and he became sheepish. I have PTSD and I have to admit that I am seriously concerned about the harassment of people like myself - those of us with mental 'weaknesses' that make us unable to 'do what we're told.'

My dad used to do this! He would donate a bunch of stuff to goodwill and then come home and throw me against the wall like a wet paper towel
