There are a lot of places where fires are not allowed (state land) and also when hiking on a mountain for example, not always the easiest. Plus it is faster and less cleanup. Thanks for watching!
I have two Solo Stoves, but it wasn't until today that I ordered the 900 pot to go with one. Solo Stove had a 20% off deal for Memorial Day weekend. Yee-Haw . . . I can't wait for it to come! As always - nice review my spikey-hair friend. :-)
I found that the stove works better for me by putting small sticks in the chamber and filling it up to just below the top air vents before lighting it. I start my fire from the top so it can burn down to the wire grate. The little alcohol burner placed where the wood goes is nice for when you want a quick hot drink. On a different note the little alcohol burner might end up staying at home ( one last thing to carry ) after I try this. Since the Solo Stove is constructed the same as the Bushbuddy.......TomsBackwoods on CZcams ( Bushbuddy Alternate Fuel ) video took 3/4 oz of alcohol and poured it in the bottom of the ash pan ,then lite it and under 4 minutes had water boiling with just over a 4 minute burn.
I'm a student of both the bushcrafty thingy and the ultralight thingy. You can MAKE a whole 'cooking system' for just boiling water for dehydrated meals for under 8 ounces easy if you're an Ultralighter however ..Firepower-vs-Mobility is a military concept that is a transferable concept and the ultralighters usually miss this. I also notice a STRONG dependence upon the 'civilized world' among ultralighters - they are not self-sustaining; they are fragile with their GossamerGear fuffery. The solo stove is a beast and that's a fact. I just wish they'd make a .25 oz alcohol stove insert at the right 1" sweet spot under the pot that was HELLA lighter than any Trangia - after all, if imma us any alcohol stove, imma want it light enough to blow away in the wind.
I see you using the Bushbox XL often in your videos, but do you favor it over the Solo? I have the Bushbox XL and I would pack it if I'm cooking for two people, but the Solo looks like a better option for one person. I wonder how my Toaks 1600 ml pot will do on the Solo? Have you tried it?

hi, in your honest opinion, which stove do you think is better this solo stove lite or the silverfire scout? based on price, weight, size dimensions, and ease of use/burns more efficiently.
two different sizes really. the silver fire compares more to the titan in size but I feel the titan is more efficient and more manageable. plus i like solo stove's pots better and the two piece construction. the silver fire scout nests nicely in the MSR pot but it's an odd pot size for me. i like the titan i just reviewed better than both but with the two you mentioned I'd take the silver fire scout stove. for a smaller option I really like the firebox nano.

It actually cools off very quickly. Within about 5-10 minutes it is cool enough to put in the stuff sack, if you dump the coals which usually is just ash since it is super efficient.
This is essentially a direct-copy of the Fritz H Bushbuddy stove. Fritz never patented his design, and Solo ran with it. The only minor difference Solo made was to use 3 pot-legs on the upper portion where the Bushbuddy used 4. NOTE: the bottom/lower portion of this stove does NOT get hot when burning (no heat transfer to the ground) ... you can actually pick it up with your bare hand (grab lower holes) and move it during use.
hey! i modified my Solo by finding a small can that sits inside this stove..was an diced peppers i think. any way..sits in there perfect and raised up enough so that esbit fuel works great.
Do you prefer this stove or the SilverFire Scout? Would you say the scout is more secure with its wider base? Great videos btw! You've earned a subscriber!
This is a TOP LIT STOVE! You are using it like a hobo stove. It should be lit on top of the biomass, then it will burn down and start the gasification process. You are not getting the real benefit of the stove. This is a wasted review.
Sorry to say but..... I hate seeing a product review when the product is shiny new There is a lack of credibility when you have not even used the product yet Please go away use it for a couple of months and show us a sooty creosoted pot and stove

yeah i end up keeping my alcohol stoves at home as well.

Alexander Teel CDP I carry a scouring pad or scotch brite pad and it works well with water to get it off. You can also use sand if you are by water.

It looks like the stove gets pretty sooty after use. How hard is it to clean afterwards? (especially if you're packing it after use)
only the inside and depends on what type of wood you use, avoid pine. stays actually pretty clean in the stuff sack.
what stove stove doesnt get sooty when u use it ?
The stove I made with tin can works so much better (taller so I don't have to snap twigs that short), weights less and is free.

both great stoves. I like the packability of the solo stove a bit better being that I have more use for a pot than the MSR pan the SFS nests with.
