  • In this video I show you how to perform the covid-19 swab test at home using the correct technique, so that you can get an accurate result. I walk you through every step of the process from receiving your self test kit to sending it by courier at the end. I hope this video will be useful as most of us will have to perform this test at some point. If you are taking your swab while watching this video I have titled each step so that you can pause along the way.

Alex, good video. This is helpful and clear. I would ask, especially from someone like you who will be held by laypeople as an expert, to NOT fall into the media's language when describing kits like these. These are definitely NOT tests; they are sample collection kits. You accurately describe the process and it is clear that these kits don't provide the home user testing capabilities at home. And here's the point: what will experts and media call the kits that actually DO enable laypeople to test themselves at home? I know that you will be clear but media and experts need not confuse the relatively uninformed public who often will not understand the difference between two kits being described as 'home test kits' when this definitely is not the case. Thanks for your good, informative service to the betterment of public health! Please continue!

The kits me and my mum got didn’t come with return stickers so do I just take it to a test site?

When I had a home test from the docs I was only given a nostril swab and it said not to go far up in the nose. It came back negative but sure I had it. Had they sent the wrong test

Why Canada Quebec does not have those tests ? How sensitive in % are your test compared to PCR ? Thanks for sharing.

I did the test about a half hour ago and didn't realise before, where my tonsils are! After looking at Google and having a second look at the leaflet i found them! I spent ages looking at the Gov web page they ask you to register at. I ended up calling the help line and discovered you need to follow the link from your email that you receive after you request a kit.I think this is a better video than the government one, their video is a bit trendy with different camera angles but for solid information, i'd say this is more helpful, Including how to fold the box, ( a challenge in itself ! )

I'm in the same predicament as you cliff as to the location of my tonsils and to swab the right area of them as we have to make sure we do this right, in order to get the right test result it's a serious matter I shall be googling also.

Yeah except my mouth looks nothing like the one on the leaflet or pictures of tonsils on the Internet. There’s literally nothing there and I didn’t have them cut out...

@@Micromation I know the leaflet said to swab where your tonsils should, be if they aren't there now.

@@cliff19555 considering I’ve never seen them in my lifetime so far that’s not exactly helpful guideline if you catch my drift xD I’ve done the test half an hour ago but I don’t know whether or not I’ve fucked it up... my gag reflex is so bad that merely folding my tongue the right way makes me vomit, so does anything that isn’t food after reaching past 1/3rd of my tongue.

I have just watched two other videos and they say that in the instructions it states that when you put the address label onto the box do not to cover the number that is on the front in the square box.

How long did it actually take from you ordering the test til you getting it, and how long did it take for you to get the results after the carrier oicked it up?

I was petrified with the nose swab that you were going to say, 'and now you need to insert it all the way until you can no longer see the black band on the stick.' Thank goodness. I'm leaving Hong Kong on the 23rd so I have to do this before I fly.

Got to do mine today and I'm dreading it. I have a strong gag reflex, I start heaving about halfway back on my tongue, let alone basically touching the sides of my throat. Is my mum able to help me if she washes her hands, wears a mask, maybe even puts on gloves?

Sorry Dr Alex, l have another, as a Dr, do you have to have some kind of insurance to be a Dr and carry out your job? I know all professional medics have to be registered etc but was not sure on insurance to say protect yourself.
