- The NHL and Adidas unveiled the newest Reverse Retro jerseys for all 32 NHL teams. Building on the success of the 2020 jerseys, Adidas and the NHL collaborated with teams this year to design jerseys that call back to unique historic moments in each club's history. Jay Onrait rates every Reverse Retro 2022 jersey out of five John Lu heads, because Lu is the most stylish person at TSN.

"Tampa Bay Lightning, what are you trying to do here?" It's literally a reverse of one of their retro jerseys.
The added detail like the waves are really cool. To me it makes sense and they're trying to go the Coyotes / last years Ducks kind of jerseys.

I really hope Johnny Canuck becomes the main logo at some point. Fans have been asking for a while now, sucks Abbotsford got it first.
Actually, there's light at the end of the tunnel. I sense that the current Johnny Canuck is only being tested in Abbotsford now that Canucks Sports & Entertainment finally own the trademark. It's taken forever, but introducing a Johnny Canuck NHL jersey as a Reverse Retro is the way to do it. As for Abbotsford, that city is known for its aviation programs. Johnny Canuck was also a pilot outside the hockey world. The AHL Canucks can use the pilot version of Johnny Canuck while the iconic lumberjack version can be used in Vancouver, a city that was built by both the lumber and fishing industries. With the discontinuation of the weak '19 Stick in Rink 3rd jersey, I predict that Johnny Canuck will be promoted as a 3rd jersey in the near future and then promoted to primary status, replacing the Orca.

BRUINS - Even better than the original
PANTHERS - Would have been even nicer with the leaping cat
DEVILS - May have been the best had they added a yellow outline somewhere in the crest
Tier 2 - Amazing
DUCKS- Not as good as the eggplant but you can't go wrong with the Mighty Ducks
FLAMES
OILERS - I think this sweater in white would have been even nicer

RANGERS
PENGUINS - Should seriously stick around as the teams alternate
KRAKEN - Honestly, a great looking sweater. Wish they had subbed the light blue for Emerald Green. Emerald Green in synonymous with the City of Seattle and would have looked phenomenal
BLUES
LIGHTNING - The font is spectacular. So ugly it's good
MAPLE LEAFS - I LOVE this sweater. Always wanted a blue version of their 2000-2011 third jersey. May end up being one of my favorite Leaf sweaters of all time
CANUCKS - A GREAT sweater but they are about two years too late with this jersey. The fact that their AHL affiliate adopted this logo takes some of the specialness out of it.
CAPITALS - One of the best NHL logos of all time
JETS - Only made this tier because of the logo. Wish they would knock off the Aviator Blue
Tier 3 - Good Looking
COYOTES - Not sold on the color
SABRES - Not having any color around the shoulders nearly ruined the sweater. It almost looks unfinished
AVALANCHE - Love the colors but the logo and the sweater design don't feel like a fit to me
STARS
CANADIENS - For a proper Expos homage the numbers should have been navy blue.
PREDATORS
ISLANDERS - Everything that made the original special and unique was excluded from this sweater. A HUGE disappointment. I can almost understand the elimination of teal. But, excluding the unique striping and numbers feels like blasphemy.
FLYERS
SHARKS - Sharks eat seals....just sayin.
Tier 4 - Not Great
HURRICANES
BLUEJACKETS - Where is Stinger? Or at least give us a white cannon jersey.
SENATORS - Not coloring the "swoop" just makes this sweater look like is has weird striping
GOLDEN KNIGHTS - Gimmicky. I get that they don't have much to work with. Only the Rangers and Penguins can get away with script logos
Tier 5 - Just bad and boring

Apart from choosing the Canucks sweater as his favourite, these have been the worst takes on the Reverse Retros I've seen, bar none. Gotta love Jay, but these are some abysmal picks.

I hate the numbering font on the Capitals jersey, but those are nice.
The leafs jersey is boring, but the Ducks one is amazing. The Coyotes one is the best one. The Canucks one fell flat at first, but looks great on the players. They are the only ones that killed it on both reverse retros.
Winnipeg shoulda done an Atlanta thrashers jersey .

I'm a Devils fan, their reverse retro is ok. Maybe they should have just done the logo for the former team the Rockies but yeah the Canucks and Florida are very good

Long post ahead, don't read if you don't wanna read a long comment and again these are my opinions and I'm not trying to offend or say your choices are wrong or good, these are just my opinions
In my opinion there's a few I agree with you on Jay but most of them not so much, here's my ranking (again in my opinion)
Anaheim-3/5 (Safe option, kinda boring but safe nonetheless)
Arizona-4/5 (Unique colours that work very well)
Boston-4/5 (The RR looks alot better than when they tried to do this logo before on a yellow jersey)
Buffalo-3/5 (Safe option, if they didn't bring back the red and black version of this jersey for this season I'm sure everyone would be ranking this one higher on their lists)
Calgary-3/5 (Safe option, they didn't do this with a black jersey before so it works but they could of done something else unique)
Carolina-1/5 (Literally a red version of their away jerseys, I understand that the whalers jerseys are loved by most of the hockey community but even I agree with others that it's over played and always a safe bet for Carolina when they do a throw-back jersey, but jerseys with the city or name of the team with nothing else are just boring IMO)
Chicago-1/5 (Again literally just a word/name jersey with their logo on the shoulder, I know we live in a day and age where offensive logos and other offensive stuff in sports teams are being replaced and im sure adidas and the Blackhawks didn't want a controversy so they chose this, in my opinion they should of done something with the fan made logo of an actual hawk made a few years back that everyone seemed to like/didn't mind, not trying to open a can of worms with controversial topics/logos/depictions and IMO the blackshawks logo is the least controversial logo of a native American/first nations individual on any sports teams jersey)
Colorado-2/5 (I understand and know it's the Colorado rockies colours and inspired by the state flag but there is a team that did the Colorado rockies colours more justice and was more unique in this batch of RR jerseys)
Columbus-3/5 (Safe option, IMO they should of used the stinger logo on this base instead of their normal logo but regardless it's an alright jersey, nothing special but nothing bad just looks like one of those cheap knock-off jerseys you'd buy from Walmart)
Dallas-3/5 (Safe option, nothing bad and nothing special)
Detroit-1/5 (Another name/word jersey with nothing else, I know it's inspired by the Detroit cougars style but still boring)
Edmonton-4/5 (It's great that they went back to the oil drop logo but if they kept the same logo with the same colours as before and just put it on a white jersey than I'm sure that would of been the best one from this batch of RR jerseys, the orange in the oil drop is a bit of a turn off but not enough to stop me from buying one)
Florida-3/5 (Love the colour but the secondary logo should of just been kept as the secondary logo IMO)
L.A.-2/5 (Boring safe option)
Minnesota-4/5 (The best safe option of the bunch, the north stars inspiration is always a nice call back)
Montreal-4/5 (I agree with you)
Nashville-2/5 (IMO they should of done a blue version of this jersey or at the very least do a blue RR jersey of the jerseys they had in the late 2000's)
New Jersey-4/5 (The better version of the Rockies inspired jerseys)
Rangers-3/5 (Safe option, a good safe option but the darker blue jerseys looked nicer IMO, still a good jersey)
Islanders-5/5 (just for bringing back the fisherman logo)
Ottawa-1/5 (bad mix-match of 2 different jerseys in their history, could of been executed in a better way)
Philadelphia-5/5 (Agree with you 100%)
Pittsburgh-3/5 (I find this logo is their best one, if they did the robo penguin with their old baby blue jersey base from the 70's I'm sure that would of been awesome)
San Jose-3/5 (The best name/word jersey of the RR bunch but could of done a Sharks inspired seals logo instead of just spelling sharks in the seals font, kinda boring but nice to see some seals inspired stuff, hope they use white skates when they use the jersey)
Seattle-3/5 (Safe option using inspiration from another old Seattle based team but if they did the metropolitans style that would of been better, but I've heard rumors that they are saving that for something planned in the future)
St.Louis-2/5 (too much yellow)
Tampa Bay-3/5 (Ugly but in a fun kind of way)
Toronto-1/5 (Ugly in a boring kind of way, should of used st.pats colours)
Vancouver-4/5 (Good logo and good base)

why would anything you said "offend" anyone and why do you care if anyone gets "offended" by your opinion of something? you are free to have any opinion on anything, you shouldnt care if it offends anyone. if something is truly offending, the 'free market' will dictate you and wont say it naturally because it will make someone feel bad. like being mean. making fun of someone because his/her uncle drives a golf cart and lives in a RV. but you are ranking hockey jersey, something that has no repercussion, they all look the same, doesnt matter one bit..

Jay confirmed everything most Canucks fans and hockey fans have already known for years and years...Johnny Canuck is the TRUE identity of the Canucks while the corporately-inspired Orca is totally irrelevant to the Canucks' name, heritage and history.

The Orca comes from the large Orca population off the coast of BC.
The Canuck logo should be based on the origins of the team’s name not some localized animal.
If that’s the case, then the team should change their name to reflect the logo.

The BC Lions have a mountain lion. Those animal logos reflect their respective teams' names. What the puck is a "Canuck"?? Your answer, my friend: Johnny Canuck....a fearless and hardworking Canadian lumberjack who played hockey in his spare time and whose lumberjack profession stems deep in BC history and helped build the City of Vancouver.

These jerseys are not reverse retro. Many uses colors the teams never used before so it's not retro and you cannot reverse colors you never used. It's basically a 4th jersey with a fancy name.
a lot of them though are tributes to past teams in their area or are using similar designs to old jerseys but changing the colors. yes it's not always consistent but it's a nice nod to the past for most of these teams
