- Illidan Stormrage the twin brother to Malfurion Stormrage was born with a pair of amber eyes, a rare trait that in Night Elven society means that you are destined to do great things. Illidan grew up inseparable from his twin brother and their childhood friend, Tyrande Whisperwind. As time passed and they grew up, Tyrande and Malfurion were able to find their destinies while Illidan could not. Malfurion was a talented druid; trained by Cenarius himself. Unfortunately, Illidan lacked the patience to learn the art of druidism. Tyrande found her calling as a Priestess of Elune, which was a sect for females only. Illidan however found himself to be adept to the art of sorcery. During the beginning of the War of the Ancients, it appeared that Illidan had finally found his calling when he managed to impress the leader of the Night Elven military Lord Ravencrest with his magical prowess. He impressed the noble so much that he was named the personal caster of Ravencrest and eventually leader of The Moon Guard, an elite sect of non Highborne Night Elven sorcerers.
During the war of the ancients, Illidan's relationship with his twin brother began to deteriorate over one thing; jealousy. This jealousy was caused by two factors, First, the love of Illidans life, Tyrande, had chosen malfurion to be her partner. The second reason was power. Illidan was jealous at how Malfurion was able to quickly learn and master druidism; something no Night Elf had done before. Due to this jealousy, Illidan began to crave even more power.
Illidan's crave for power eventually led him to Zin-Azhari, the once majestic city that had become the base of the Burning Legion when the Highborne betrayed their race and began to summon the horrific demons to Azeroth. Illidan shared a plan with Sargeras that would allow Sargeras to walk on Azeroth once again. The plan was quite simple, to steal the Demon Soul from Deathwing the destroyer. In return for Illidans allegiance, Sargeras granted Illidan a gift. The dark titan covered Illidans body in Arcane tattoos and replaced his eyes with fiery, magical orbs. From that moment on, Illidan was the first Demon Hunter. Little did Sargeras know, but Illidan's true plan was to steal the Demon Soul for himself and use its power to permanently CLOSE the portal that had been allowing the demons to enter Azeroth. Unfortunately, Illidans plan failed, though he was able to significantly weaken the portal.
Eventually, Malfurion had devised a plan to finally end the war against the Burning Legion. His plan -- destroy the Well of Eternity for good. This startled Illidan and would cause him to do an unthinkable act. As soon as the Well of Eternity was Destroyed and the great sundering which would tear Azeroth apart causing the world to be shaped like it is today, Illidan ran to the top of mount Hyjal and emptied seven vials of water from the well into a small lake. He did this just in time for Malfurion and his allies to catch him in the act.
Horrified at what Illidan had done, Malfurion tried to explain why what he did was wrong , but Illidan would not hear it. Disgusted at his magical addiction and bringing evil back to the world, Malfurion imprisoned Illidan deep within Azeroth to be guarded for all eternity by Maiev Shadowsong. From then on, he would be known as "The Betrayer." - Zábava
Thanks Pride! A very simple and interesting explanation of one of the more complex chapters of Warcraft lore.
I really like the characature and tale behind Illidan. He can be considered a great tragedy. He was a victim to his fears of not being what others expected of him, which drove him to commit heinous acts in an attempt to prove himself, which hurled him into a dark path.
@IIlidanStormrage I believe that we were not prepared for the awesomeness of your story, oh mighty one.
duuuude MOREE, the stories are awesome
Good one. Btw you sounded lIke an air hostess "please keep your tray up during take off and landing, there are emergency exits here, here here and here" lol
i love these vids.. i hope you make more soon :)
"war for news built-in storage" xD omg, love these subtitles
Lore for noobs is one of the best of OMFGcata. I really like the way its explained ;) Gief more so I can RP!
Glad to see this thing is finally up, Pride.
-Graict
Nice! I acualy like this beacuse i didnt fully understand the story. Keep it on pls!
Hey man, malfurion stormrage should have a BA rating of 11. This guy has been kicking ass all throughout the lore.
Really cool! Thanks Pride
Illidan is like the Batman of Azeroth. While all the other races are busy twiddling their thumbs and fighting amongst other factions, Illidan actually gets shit done.
These are awesome
1:31- hilton was jealous of how my beer and was able to quickly learn journalism XD
Can't wait to see how the Well of eternity dungeon will cope with this!!!
@OMFGcata ah ok, ty for clarifying that for me. I remember one was used for the Sunwell(meaning the lake under Nordrassil is 3 times better) and Illidan had at least 2 more, giving 1 to Vashj and the other to Kael'Thas. But i think he would only part with those, if he still had one, but eh, we might never know what happened to the last one.
@KisiroKitsune Is it possible to find a list of all the books?
Good start, but you've got one glaring error. Illidan didn't dump 7 vials into the lake. He *took* 7 total from the original Well, and dumped 3 to create the second one. #4 ended up with Dath'Remar somehow (probably a gift, as we know Illidan was Highborne-sympathetic) and was eventually used to make the Sunwell. Illidan gave #5 and #6 to Kael and Vashj respectively, as shown in BC during the old Mt Hyjal attunement. #7 is still unaccounted for, and was probably lost with Illidan.
@Demon1z There isn't one book with everything in it if that's what you're asking, but yes there are WoW lore books. The best one to start off with is probably "Rise of the Horde".
RotH talks about how demons tricked the orcs into turning evil, how orcs created the Horde, how they killed almost all the draenei, and then how they began their invasion of Stormwind.
I enjoy this nuff said
I Looove the cc of this ^^
"...that you just simply aren't prepared for."
I SEE wut u DID THERE.
I kinda feel bad for Illidan. I think he's one of the most sympathetic villains I've ever seen, as far as video games go.
Illidan only emptied one vial into the lake on top of Hyjal. 5 others were used to make the Sunwell and passed out among his lieutenants. One remains unaccounted for.
how i just love wow lore *-*
*faints*
Rest in Peace Illidan...
He will return!
illidan only emptied 3 of the 7 vials at hyjal, 1 he kept while the other 3 past into the hands of others like kael'thas sunstrider who used his vial to create the sunwell.
@sonicx45shadow i totaly aggree:) but shud we not save an awsome boss like that for the actual end off all thing?
You are entirely correct. Being forced to rely on demon energy changed them.
@OMFGcata can you make a lore for noobs about deathwing?
i remember playing with maiev shadowsong in the wc3 campaign. the story there was really nice
"Betrayer... In truth it was I who was betrayed!"
AmamtheAsh you are right. In the book itself it says that Old gods were planning to destroy the Burning Legion after they entered Azeroth and freed them.
good video
Would be cool if you did a lore vid why the alliance and horde are actually enemies, since not alot of people seem to know this.
@Feaisian Well that's true, but technically he did the same in the War in the Ancients with Sargeras. I think Illidan only sided with Kil'Jaeden so he could have the means of destroying the Frozen Throne just like he did when he 'sided' with Azshara/Sargeras
Can i buy books for the whole lore of World of warcraft? Ive always been interested in it.
Illidan yeaaah!
@OMFGcata ah mayhaps i have my facts confused...until, if you do make the video for the lore begind Deathwing, i will atempt to refresh my memmory on him. Thanks anyway ^^
Whoa whoa whoa... Druidism is something no night elf had done before? Aren't they all into that druidy
Was Sargeras one of the titans that fought the Old Gods?
@bbqpring That is why this is part 1. There will be a part 2.
@Demon1z If I CZcams's comments have the room I can list 'em here. Chronological order:
-War of the Ancients trilogy (buyable as one book)
-Rise of the Horde
-The Last Guardian (kind of sort of a WC1 adapt)
-Tides of Darkness (WC2 adapt)
-Beyond the Dark Portal (WC2 expac adapt)
-Day of the Dragon
-Of Blood and Honor
-Arthas: Rise of the Lich King (Party a WC3 + expac adapt)
-Cycle of Hatred
-Night of the Dragon
-Stormrage
-The Shattering
-Wolfheart
-Thrall: Twilight of the Aspects
the most badass character in WoW
@OMFGcata Also, awesome so far, but he didn't empty all 7 vials, he empty'd only 3/4 (cant remember exactely) this is why there is a quest to get one from Keal'thas and one from Lady Vashj.
I was hoping to learn more about his demon hunting and how we get his warglaives D:
Yay for Kael'thas to confuse EVERY SINGLE dude who dont understand about the high elves and blood elves
tx for awsome lore for noobs btw:) realy apretiate it:D sorry for bad english11
Whens part two coming out?
I was under the impression that Illidans attempt to weaken/destroy the portal only helped Sargeras?
Which was why the old gods where so pleased with his actions? (Since his coming would free them or something and then they'd wtfpwn him).
is illidan in a dungeon or raid? basically, is he killable in the game?
Status for Illidan should've been "You are not prepared."
LOVE L4N!
@mrnohobo part of Tyrande is in both Illidan's card and Malfurion's
what was so important about the vials? i've never actually read the books or done the quest line in BC so im kinda lost why malfurion was soo pissed.
I have a question, if this happened 10K years ago, how are half of these characters still alive? and Where's the part about the Black temple? and when did that happen? can anyone help me out with the timing of things?
What was emptying those vials of water supposed to do?
To make sure magic still exists.
i missed these
Correct me if im wrong , but I thought blood elves were corrupted by fel taint , and high elves weren't. Just what I remember ....probably wrong though.
And now I know and knowing is half the battle .
@OMFGcata That would be half of Tyrande, you can tell by the lack of clothing.
What does BA rating meen?
Are you telling me that there's no distinction between the two types of elves? If there is, then high elves should be considered a different "race", right?
@canseenox, yes mate he was the endboss of the Black Temple raidinstance in the The Burning Crusade expansion. Too bad he died because he went loco, but hey, he dropped his glaives.
3:04 Pretty sure Illidan only emptied 4 of the 7 vials into the lake in mt hyjal. Then gave 1 vial each to kael'thas and lady vashj. The last remaining vial was stolen (i believe), cant remember by who though, a was used to create the Sunwell.
what's that thing next to malfurion
i love illidan :D
So, what you're saying, is that Sargeras(9 BA) is less badass than Ilidan(10 BA)?
You sound sick Jesse. Lemme get you a lipton Ice Tea. :D
Actually illidan only used three files of water on mount hijal. There was another one used to create the sunwell. Then later on illidan devided the other three files between himself, the blood elf and the naga. The one of the blood elfs was used to summon kil jeaden in the burning crusade.
And it is speculated that the one he kept himself, was used within the Black Temple to create a new Well, which can be seen during the boss fight against the Essences.
The old story.... Two boys and a girl, they grow up together, say they're gonna be together forever... Then the world changes as they grow, old bonds are severed... Illidan may be a good example of a tragic anti-hero.
Pride sounds like he's smoked his big share of weed in his past and/or still is.
I have a question for anyone that might be able to answer this. How tall would Illidan Stormrage be in real life? From head to toe? At the tip of his wings? I gathered he would be about 9 feet tall in real life with a wingspan that goes to about 11 feet high. Is there anyone that knows the dimensions of this character? Any help is appreciated. Also, how tall would the Lich King be as well? Thanks.
This guy is sooo coooooooool.
@sonicx45shadow Chris Metzen talks alot about how he wants to take WoW to Argus, the homeworld of the Eredar. Argus is now completely populated my the Burning Legion, and Sargeras is also there.
@Mg95a n the next season airs this thursday, there won't be long.
-Ziztran.
@OMFGcata And thus, by doing of Ysera (Alextrasza?) the Nordrassil was created!
Illidan is my favorite WoW character... He's been through some shit and nobody even cared about him after WOTLK and Cata.
this is interesting
@OMFGcata Question: WHY DID IT TOOK YOU SO LONG TO MAKE THIS!?!?
This is by far my favorite character in lore. I don't care about all those other idiots.
I just wanna see Illidan. My episode.
It is not mentioned that Illidan killed some Night Elf warriors when he was discovered creating a new Well Of Eternity
'whats going on this is pride bored shitless'
Other than their eye color, height, and the addiction, there's no difference.
@SimuRei Why thank you :D
best char imo
blood elves are magic adicted high elves aint they? i read it just cant recall it :)
why does your voise sound kind of weak? and thankyou for the lore it saves me a lot of time... a suggestion for you is...can you please do deathwing i know he was a titan and i know he was imprisoned inside azeroth but why did he want to destroy so soon?
well, they are addicated to mana, which is a substance that affects the body, hence a drug.
@r34p3r1992 No, he didn't. Tyrande was captured by Xavius and his Satyr's. Not Illidan. Also, Illidan didn't fall in love with Azhara beyond the amount that every Night Elf loved her. She actually made advances on Illidan that he purposely ignored. I read the War of the Ancients trilogy again a couple weeks before I wrote this script. Please don't try to correct me with wrong answers.

MY EPISODE!
Bad ass...
Forgot 1 thing if i remember it right, Illidan stormrage also kidnapped tyrande and fell in love with Queen aszara ... (War of the ancient novel) Yes bro, i read it too
@PESHKIRAwee
Because we have yet to face him in the game itself.
@OMFGcata why dont u do any of the women like tyrande or sylvanas or vereesa? they hav interestin lores 2, its not jus the blokes who hav good lores ya know
I liked the older way you did the L4N... :(
2:08 "Demon Soul"...is that supposed to be Dragon Soul? or is there a Demon Soul?
I'd like to know more about tis' Maiev. :-\
There needs ro be a part 2 cuz he gets freed and gets his demon powers and goes to outland
